Abstract:In the realm of ocean exploration, underwater image segmentation endeavors to enrich our understanding of underwater resources. This developing domain within image segmentation has piqued the curiosity of researchers. Nevertheless, the underwater environment poses distinct challenges to this task, rooted in factors such as reduced water clarity, the concealment abilities of marine organisms, and the attenuation of light as it propagates underwater. To address these complexities, we devise a deep learning model. Firstly, by alternating the input order of sub-features during dual iterations, our framework fosters a heightened synergy between global and intricate features, thereby enhancing the discernment of pivotal object characteristics across varying levels of underwater visibility. Furthermore, we incorporate a pyramid model into this module to merge adjacent features across layers and accumulate subtle cues. This strategy not only amplifies the capture of nuanced information but also mitigates disruptions from salient feature fluctuations, facilitating the detection of concealed aquatic life. Lastly, we design the designed degradation feature selection module that addresses the loss in the underwater light propagation process, utilizing the principle of Fourier transform. We isolate and utilize the amplitude component to counteract the detrimental effects of image quality degradation. This approach effectively mitigates the adverse influence of underwater light propagation loss on the segmentation process. Extensive experiments conducted on eight diverse underwater datasets have demonstrated that our model surpasses existing state-of-the-art methods, showcasing its efficacy in tackling the intricacies of underwater image segmentation.
