Abstract:Cell therapy is the main method of the eye function restoring of patients with degenerative eye disease.Conventional ways of obtaining donor cells are usually from the mature cells,which are limited by the source of donors.Stem cells may be its new resource for their potentiality.Recently,differentiation of pluripotent stem cells in vitro successfully yields a 3 D optic cup,which overcomes the difficulty of retinal cell replacement therapy.This article will briefly review the recent development of cell-replacement therapy for degenerative eye disease as well as the clinical application of stem cell-derived optic cup in the future.
