Study on abdominal aortic wall motion in patients with end-stage renal disease by tissue Doppler imaging

Abstract:Objective To evaluate the application of tissue Doppler imaging (TDI) in detecting and quantifying abdominal aortic wall motion velocity in patients with end-stage renal disease (ESRD).Methods The velocities of abdominal aortic wall motion in thirty-two patients with ESRD were detected with Acuson Sequoia 512 ultrasound unit with TDI capability.Abdominal aortic wall motion velocities(including systolic and diastolic velocity),acceleration (AC) and deceleration (DC) of peak S1,electromechanical time(EMT),and pre-ejection period (PEP) were measured and recorded respectively.Pulse wave time (PWT) was equal to EMT minus PEP.Relative pulse wave propagation velocity (RPWPV) was calculated,which was equal to body height divided PWT.Results The characteristics of PW-TDI spectrum of abdominal aortic wall motion in patients with ESRD were as follows: the peak velocity of E,S1,S2,D and PWT and also the AC,DC were all significantly lower than those of control group,respectively (all P<0.001),while RPWPV was higher than that of control group.Conclusions TDI may be a promising tool for the quantification of abdominal aortic wall motion velocities.
