Abstract:This paper investigates e-business implementation and systematic evidence regarding the process through which firm resources and capabilities are exploited to execute strategies for improved efficiency and competitive advantage. We propose a model of e-business implementation process which is comprises of six constructs related to e-business strategy implementation. The model describes how phenomena resident within the implementation process shape the relationship between strategy planning and IT related resources and high-order capabilities. The model is tested with survey data from the enterprises in Hubei Province of China. The analysis suggests that strategy planning has direct impact on Information Sharing Capabilities and indirect impact on Collaborative Process Capabilities. The indirect impact is mediated by the concurrent effect of IT Human Resource and Information Sharing Capabilities. Some key features of the model include the important roles of strategy planning to deploy and utilize a firm's resources to generate high-order capabilities and IT human resources in a firm's e-business implementation. Another highlight of the study is the significant intermediate and transferred effect of Information Sharing Capabilities upon integrating IT related organizational resource to generate the Collaborative Processes Capabilities which improve organizational efficiency and competitive advantage.
