Abstract:Objective To compare and analyze epidemiologic characteristics between migrants and local residents attending STD clinics in Minhang district of Shanghai. Methods A retrospective study was used to analyze the historys of STD patients attending standardized STD clinics in three public hospitals in Minhang district. Results Approximately 50% of all STD patients were migrants.Among migrant STD patients,18.2% was female,23.8% was single, which were both higher than that of local residents(14.9% and 12.9%,respectively).Migrant STD patients were younger and more likely to be diagnosed with multiple infections.Clinical manifestations and symptoms were gender-dependent and not different between migrants and local residents.Gonorrhea was the major diagnosis among STD patients.Migrant STD patients were less likely to seek a clinical follow-up.Conclusions Migrants attending STD clinics were different in epidemiological and clinical characteristics as well as clinical seeking behaviors with local residents.Strategies for STD care and prevention should be carried out differently among migrants and local residents.
