Abstract:The structure of the title complex, [Co(C8H7O3)(2)(H2O)(2)], has been redetermined in the space group C2/c. The original report [ Xiao, Lan, Zhang & Jiang ( 2002). Guangxi Shifan Daxue Xuebao Ziran Kexueban ( J. Guangxi Normal Univ.), 20, 81 - 83] declared the space group to be Cc. The molecule lies on a twofold axis; the vanillinate anion chelates to the Co-II atom through the methoxy and hydroxy groups. The Co-O-methoxy bond is longer than the Co-O-hydroxy bond by 0.2673 (18) angstrom.

Abstract:The title complex [Cu-2(C4H2O4)(2) (bipy)(2) (H2O)(3)].3H(2)O (bipy=2,2'-bipyridine) was prepared and its crystal structure determined by X-ray diffraction methods. Both Cu(II) atoms of the binuclear complex assume square pyramidal coordination. The fumarate groups display different coordination modes. One fumarate group bridges two Cu(II) ions to for-in a binuclear complex while another fumarate group terminally coordinates to a Cu(II) atom with one carboxyl group free from coordination. The terminally coordinated fumarate showed unusual disorder, which may be due to an intermolecular H-bonding interaction. Close stacking of bipy rings is observed as verified by the distance of 3.46 Angstrom between parallel ring planes. IR spectra were assigned based on the molecular structure.

Abstract:The structure of the title compound, catena-poly[[[diaquacobalt(II)]-μ-oxydiacetato-κ4O,O′,O′′:O′′′)cobalt(II)] monohydrate], {[Co(C4H4O5)(H2O)2]·H2O}n, (I), was first determined and reported by Hatfield et al. [Proc. Indian Acad. Sci. Chem. Sci. (1987), 98, 23–31]. We present here a redetermination, with appreciably improved accuracy and successful location of H atoms. In the crystal structure, oxydiacetate plays the role of both chelating and bridging ligand, resulting in he formation of polymeric chains of complex molecules along the crystallographic b axis. Water molecules occupy the apical positions, thus completing the coordination octahedron of the CoII atom. The polymeric chains are interlinked via intermolecular hydrogen bonding between carboxylate and water molecules, forming the three-dimensional supramolecular structure.

Abstract:A new coordination compound, [(CuI)(Btd)](n) (1, Btd = 2,1,3-benzothiadiazole), was obtained at room temperature by the reaction of 2,1,3-benzothiadiazole with CuI and KI saturated aqueous solution. It was characterized by elemental analysis, IR spectroscopy, single-crystal X-ray diffraction analysis and photoluminescence. The complex crystallizes in the triclinic Pi space group, with a = 4.1620(6), b = 10.4590(15), c = 10.5052(15) angstrom, alpha = 69.310(2), beta = 83.608(2), gamma = 78.873(2)degrees, V = 419.30(10) angstrom(3), Z = 2, C6H4N2SCuI, M-r = 326.61, D-c = 2.587 g/cm(3), F(000) = 304 and mu(MoK alpha) = 6.464 mm(-1). The final R = 0.0418 and wR = 0.0936 for 1451 observed reflections with I > 2 sigma(I) and R = 0.0422 and wR = 0.0939 for all data. In the complex, the Cu atoms are coordinated by one nitrogen atom and three iodine atoms to form a double-stranded stair, and such stairs are further linked to build a 2D framework via C-H center dot center dot center dot I interactions.

Abstract:The redetermined structure of the title compound, [Mn(C4H5NO4)(H2O)(2)](n), including the full hydrogen-bonding scheme, is reported; the original report was by Zhang & Lu [Acta Cryst. (2004). E60, m1189-m119O]. The structure contains polymeric chains of Mn-II cations bridged by iminodiacetate (IDA) dianions. The manganese species assumes a distorted octahedral coordination geometry, formed by two IDA molecules (one tridentate and one monodentate) and two water molecules. The tridentate IDA chelates to the Mn atom in the facial configuration; one chelating five-membered ring is almost planar and the other adopts an envelope configuration. A significant difference of 0.118 (2) Angstrom in Mn-O-carboxyl bond distances is observed within the chelating IDA moiety.

Abstract:In the title compound, [Cu-3(C7H3N2O7)(2)(C7H2N2O7)(2)( H2O)(4)](0.54)[Cu(C7H3N2O7)(2)(H2O)(2)](0.92)center dot 4H(2)O, the Cu-II ion located on an inversion centre has a fractional site occupancy of 0.54. When this Cu-II ion is present, a trinuclear complex also involving two adjacent CuII ions arises; when it is not, then the result is two discrete mononuclear complexes. A very similar structure was reported previously by Valigura, Melnik, Koman, Martiska, Korabik, Mrozinski & Glowiak [Inorg. Chem. Commun. (2004), 7, 548-552]. However, in their material, arising from a different synthesis, the Cu-II ion with (1) over bar site symmetry is fully occupied, and thus only a trinuclear complex is formed. Here, the mononuclear Cu-II complex assumes a square-pyramidal coordination geometry, formed by two water molecules and two 3,5-dinitrosalicylate anions, one of which is monodentate and the other bidentate.

Abstract:The crystal structure of the title complex was determined by single-crystal X-ray diffraction methods. The unit cell contains two independent molecules, A and B. B is a mononuclear Cu(II) complex with square-planar coordination geometry formed by two benzimidazole molecules and two hydroxylbenzoate anions. A is a dimer of B, formed by bridging hydroxybenzoate, and copper assumes square-pyramidal geometry. Aromatic pi-pi stacking is observed between parallel benzimidazole rings of neighboring A molecules. IR spectra of the compound are assigned in line with the crystal structure.

Abstract:The title polymeric complex [Cu(C4H2O4)(C10HdeltaN2)(n) .2nH(2)O was prepared and its crystal structure was determined by X-ray diffraction methods. The crystal belongs to space group P2(1)/c with cell dimensions of a = 1.0104 ( 1), b = 1.9952 (2), C = 0.7357 (2) nm, beta = 98.38 (2)degrees and Z = 4. The complex forms zig-zag chains along crystallographic axis c via Cu-O (carboxyl) bond in the apical direction. Each repeated unit consists of a square pyramidal Cu(H) centre with one maleate dianion and one 2,2'-bipyridine forming a basal plane. Adjacent chains link to each other by H-bonding between carboxyl groups and crystalline water. The distance of 0.3482 nm between parallel bipyridine rings shows a pi-pi stacking interaction. The title complex was also characterized by IR, UV and ESR spectra.

Abstract:In the molecule of the title Co-II complex, [Co(C6H4NO3)(2)(C3H4N2)(2)], the Co-II atom is located on a twofold rotation axis and chelated by two oxidopyridiniumcarboxylate anions and further cis-coordinated by two imidazole ligands in a distorted octahedral geometry. The shorter C-O bond distance of 1.260 (2) angstrom suggests electron delocalization between the oxido group and the pyridinium ring. The uncoordinated carboxylate O atom links with the imidazole and pyridinium rings of adjacent molecules via N-H center dot center dot center dot O hydrogen bonding. Weak C-H center dot center dot center dot O hydrogen bonding is also present in the crystal structure.

Abstract:In the crystal structure of the title compound, [Cu(C7H5O4)(2)(C7H6N2)(2)]center dot 3H(2)O, the Cu-II ion is coordinated by two benzimidazole (bzim) molecules and two 3,5-dihydroxybenzoate (dhba) anions in a tetrahedrally distorted square-planar geometry. Aromatic pi - pi stacking is observed between parallel bzim ligands and between roughly parallel bzim and dhba units. An extensive O - H center dot center dot center dot O and N - H center dot center dot center dot O hydrogen-bonding network helps to consolidate the crystal structure.

Abstract:The title complex [Mn(bipy)(2)Cl-2] . 0.5bipy . 2H(2)O, where bipy = 2,2'-bipyridine, has been prepared and its crystal structure has been determined by X-ray diffraction methods. The complex crystallizes in the triclinic space group P-1, with a=8.814(2), b=11.335(2), c=13.347(3)Angstrom, alpha=76.85(2), beta=89.55(2), gamma=86.52(2)degrees. Two chloride and two bipy ligands cis-coordinate to a Mn(II) atom with a distorted octahedral geometry. The crystal consists of Mn(II) complex, free bipy and crystalline water. The complex crystalline water link to each other by H-bonding to form supra-molecular chains, and free bipy molecules locate between parallel chains with a van der Waals contact distance of 3.58(1)Angstrom. A pi-pi interaction is also observed between adjacent bipy rings. The chelating bipy and free bipy showed different IR absorptions.

Abstract:Two modifications of the α and β forms of bis(imidazole)copper(II) dibenzoate, [Cu(im) 2 (OBz) 2 ], have been obtained by recrystallization from EtOH. X-ray analysis reveals that the two modifications have the same structure with different geometric parameters. The α form crystallizes in the C2/c space group and the β form, in the P2(1)/n space group. The crystal structures of both consist of centrosymmetric monomeric molecules of [Cu(im) 2 (OBz) 2 ] with a distorted octahedral geometry for the CuN 2 O 2 ċO 2 ′ chromophore. The e.s.r. spectra of the α and β forms exhibit a shf structure that consists of 9 lines, and these signals are also different from those of monomeric tetra(imidazole)copper(II) diacetate. Electronic and i.r. spectra are in agreement with the structural data.
