Abstract:In this study,2386 students and 504 teachers were surveyed by a questionnaire on their implicit view of school violence.The results showed that both students and teachers perceived serious physical assault and sexual harassment,but not verbal assault,as school violence.Students' implicit views varied by gender,school location and grade while teachers' views were not affected by differences in gender,school location,grade,and education level.Teachers were more likely to see physical assault as school violence while students were more likely to take verbal assault and mild physical punishment as school violence.

Abstract:Currently,both the amount and nature of school violence in China are deteriorating.As school violence is related to campus culture,its definition needs to be defined with its locality,school type,assaulter and sufferer,behavior and consequences of harm,and so on.On the above basis,this paper summarizes different types of violence phenomena and their traits,and analyzes the specific causes and countermeasures.Research on such phenomena entails much attention to emotional entanglements,in which the number of school girls participating in or organizing school violence is proliferating.In the analyses of its causes and countermeasures,the paper advocates that teachers' concept and method of education should be improved,psychological guidance be enhanced in the parents' guardianship of their children,and school security defense extend to the radiant area of the school.

Abstract:School violence, as a special type of violence, refers to behaviors that take the school as a background, occur inside the school, and cause physical and/or psychological harm to school members. This review builds on growing literature in the field of school violence in mainland China with a focus on school bullying as its most common form. It provides an overview of the most recent evidence estimating the prevalence of different forms of school bullying/violence. This work also outlines the overall research on school violence, summarizes influencing factors, and highlights key areas to be strengthened and improved. Finally, the authors provide noteworthy suggestions for future research.

A Study of School Violence and Effective Factors among Middle-school Students in a City

Abstract:Objective: To study the prevalence of school violence in middle school students in a city and to identify the effective factors.Methods: 875 middle-school students from grade 1-2 of junior middle school and Grade 1 and 2 of senior middle school were recruited.Self-designed questionnaire of adolescents and the safety of schoolcampus were employed,to analyse the effective factors of school violence via logistic regression.Results: ①The rate of psychological violence was 59.0%,and physical violence was 35.7%;②Male,single child in the family,unharmonized relation of the parents were the risk factors of school violence.Conclusion: ①School violence in middle-school students was serious.②School violence was influenced by society,school,family and students.In order to decrease school violence,we should make great efforts to prevent its happening from these four facets.
The Status and Causes of Campus Violence in Middle Schools in Guangzhou

Abstract:Objective To determine the status and prevalence features of campus effects, and to provide evidence for the researches on interventions.Methods A cross-section survey was conducted among 1 890 students of a middle school in Guangzhou.Results The incidence of campus violence in the past year was 64.6%. Among all types of violence, verbal violence was the most common(41.5%). The incidence among boys was higher than that of girls,( χ 2=25.89, P 0.01). The highest-risk places of body violence were classroom, lavatory and the way of going home. The most common reason was verbal confrontation, then the implications by others, influencing by alcohol or drug. The influences of violence on students varied from light impacts to physical injuries, even the suicidal ideations. After being exposed to violence, the majority of students would tell schoolmates, teachers and parents about their encounters. Conclusion The violence in campus has been a serious public health problem. The culture construction and law education should be strengthened in campus in order to protect students and ensure normal teaching orders.
Status and influencing factors of violence in elementary schools

Abstract:Objective To observe the occurrence of school violence in elementary schools and explore its influencing factors at individual and school levels. Methods Pupils of grades 4 to 6 were selected from 14 public elementary schools and 6 elementary schools for children of peasant-workers in Baoan District,Shenzhen City with stratified-cluster sampling method for investigation of the school violence incidents within one year and the related influential factors. Multilevel logistic regression model was used to determine the influencing factors at pupil level and school level. Results A total of 5 834 pupils were surveyed( 3 281 boys and 2 553 girls). Their age was( 11. 49 ±1. 17) yeas( mean ± SD). Numbers of pupils from the public schools and schools for children of peasant-workers were 4 234( 72. 60%) and 1 600( 27. 40%),respectively. The incidence rate of school violence was 72. 51%( 4 230/5 834). Of the violence types, the incidence rates of psychological violence and physical violence were 71. 94%( 4 197/5 834) and 44. 31%( 2 585/5 834),respectively. The incidence rates of violence occurred in public schools,schools for children of peasant-workers,boys,and girls were 76. 10%( 3 220 /4 234), 63. 10%( 1 010 /1 600),75. 59%( 2 480 /3 281),and 68. 55%( 1 750 /2 553),respectively. Risk factors of violence behavior were associated with public schools( OR = 2. 20),lack of health education( OR = 1. 73),male( OR = 1. 27),ordinary academic records( OR = 1. 29),playing network games( OR = 1. 93),parents quarreling in front of children( OR = 1. 56),and child maltreatment( OR = 1. 60). Conclusion Violence in elementary school pupils was widespread in Baoan District,Shenzhen; relevant departments of the schools should take measures to prevent the occurrence of school violence by minimizing some risk factors.

Abstract:Objective The aim of this study was to understand campus violence among teenagers and analyze the influencing factors,in order to provide a reference for the development of intervention measures.Methods Students in a high school in Wuyuan County of Jiangxi Province were selected by cluster sampling method to have a self-adminstered anonymous questionnaire.The questionnaire was translated into Chinese and amended according to the questionnaire of youth risk behavior surveillance (YRBS),and the structural equation model was used to analyze the influencing factors of campus violence.Results Among 1 810 students,267(14.75％) had physical violence,239(13.20％) were of mental violence and 78(4.31％) of sexual violence.The structural equation model of school students' campus violence showed that social factors had a negative impact on the indirect effect of campus violence(-0.224),the campus violence was influenced by individual behavior.The direct effect of individual behavior on campus violence was positive (0.731);The school performance had both direct effect (0.226) and indirect effect(0.074) on campus violence;the total effect of each factor in the model was 0.807,which explained the influence of campus violence,and the individual behavior was the main influencing factor of campus violence factor.Conclusion The total effect of individual behavior on the influencing factors of campus violence is the highest,suggesting that only the joint efforts of family,society,school and all aspects can effectively control the campus violence.

Abstract:The COVID-19 Pandemic that occurred in 2020 had a significant influence on the school lives of students. Due to the anti-gathering COVID rules and social distancing policy, students were allowed to take remote non-face-to-face classes and face-to-face classes at the same time. This led to the expansion of the learning space and the organic connection between the cyberspace and real-life classes/schools. It is easy to predict that such changes will have a huge influence on how students interact with each other and form new relationships. Meanwhile, it will also have a significant influence on the negative aspects, including school violence and bullying. Now that we are preparing for the post-COVID-19 era, it is necessary for us to predict the new types and trends of school violence/bullying that may occur in the changing school/educational environment and prepare new policies to cope with such issues. Such changes in the learning environment are likely to have a great influence on inter-student interaction and communication. Naturally, it will also affect the various conflicts that may occur between students, especially school violence and bullying. Currently, one of the most well-known law related to school violence is the 「Act on the Prevention of and Countermeasures Against Violence in Schools」, also known as the ‘School Violence Prevention Act’. The main purpose of this study is to examine the actual trend of school violence from the year 2019 to 2022 (pre-COVID to post-COVID), examine the articles and limitations of the ‘School Violence Prevention Act’, and propose new ways to improve the ‘School Violence Prevention Act’.

Abstract:Psychological violence is a widespread but neglected dimension in interpersonal violence.It not only causes psychological damage to victim and affects long-term health of the individual,but can also lead to risky behaviors and negative impact on society.However,existing studies have not systematically sorted out issues related to psychological violence.To understand the current status and progress of research on the problem,this paper reviewed the research on psychological violence and provided a comprehensive description of the concepts,hazards,types,influencing factors and research methods of psychological violence,with the aim of exploring current research gaps and future research directions in this field.Our review is expected to draw increased attention and consideration to psychological violence,and to provide a reference for its research in the field of injury prevention.
Prevalence and Associated Factors of School Physical Violence Behaviors among Middle School Students in Beijing

Abstract:Objective To described the prevalence of school physical violence behaviors and to explore its associated factors among middle school students in Beijing. Methods In 2009, a randomly selected cross- sectional survey was conducted among 5718 students in grades 7 to 12 in Beijing. A self-report anonymous questionnaire involving physical violence at school and sociodemographic variables, such as sex, grades, family economic status and family structure, peer relationships, and communication with their parents etc. were completed by students themselves.Logistic regression was used to estimate the association between physical violence and sociodemographic variables. Results Among the students, 14.3% reported that they had had physical violence behavior in school during the past 12 months. Male students had been more likely to have physical violence behaviors than female students (Male 25.2%, Female 5.1% ). For both male and female students, poor school cohesion were the risk factors of physical violence behaviors (Male OR=1.060, Female OR=1.065). For male students, factors as father' s lower education level (OR=1.653 ), remarried/single-parent families ( OR = 1.834 ), low-grade ( grade 7 OR = 5.291; grade 11 OR =1.526) , poor school performance (OR=1.470) etc were the risk factors of physical violence behaviors; while better-off family economic status (OR=0.546), good peer relationships (OR=0.618) , and easy to communicate with the father (OR=0.756) were the protective factors of physical violence behaviors. For female students, easy to communicate with her mother (OR = 0.358)were the protective factors of physical violence behaviors. Conclusion For male and female students, the prevalence of school physical violence and its related factors were different. Actions on prevention against physical violence behaviors should be fully considered, including factors as gender, personal characteristics, family, school and peers etc.
Epidemiological Study of School Violence Tendency in Rural Primary and Middle School Students in Lianping County

Abstract:Objective To study the incidence of school violence in primary and middle schools, and to to provide basis for school violence prevention and intervention in rural area. Methods A self-administered questionnaire survey was conducted among 9 732 students selected from grade 3 to 11. Results The incidence rate of school violence was 50.2%, which was 55.0% for male and 44.1% for female(χ2=134.83, P0.01). The incidence rate of primary, junior and senior middle school students were 57.5%, 55.8% and 34.6% respectively, with statistical significant differences(χ2=191.14,P0.01). For male students, who were victim of school violence, the incidence rate of physical violence, verbal violence, extortionary violence, psychological violence and sexual violence were 35.9%, 42.5%, 9.6%, 14.6% and 17.0%; for female students, the rates were 26.8%, 33.6%, 4.3%, 11.7% and 9.8%. The perpetrators of school violence were classmates in the same class(33.4%) or the same grade(19.7%), and the second perpetrators was hooligan(14.9%). About 51.5% school violence happened in schools, and mostly happened in breaks(35.7%) and ways to school or home(22.9%). After school violence, 82.6%may become unhappy, 33.2% of them got hurt and 33.9% of them reported they would use violence to solve the problem. Conclusion Violence among primary and middle school students in rural of Guangdong is serious, which had a bad effect to students. Effective measures should be taken by schools and societies.
Violent Injuries among College Students in China: an Exploration of Gender Mental Stress Model.

Abstract:The purpose of this study was to explore the gender-specific mental stress model of violent injuries among Chinese college students. A cross-sectional, multistage sampling process was employed to recruit a total of 5025 college students from 22 universities in China. Survey respondents reported their exposure to violent injuries and noted individual and environmental factors that could relate to violent injuries. Both unadjusted and adjusted statistical methods were used to examine the relationships between selected individual and environmental variables with violent injuries among male and female college students. The overall prevalence of violent injuries among male and female college students in this study was 4.40% (95% CI [0.10%, 7.80%]) and 5.20% (95% CI [0.05%, 10.35%]). The study found that higher mental stress (OR: 3.32), lower level universities (OR: 5.99), and family location in rural areas (OR: 4.00) were associated with a higher likelihood of violent injuries, and mothers employed as professionals (OR: 0.07) was associated with lower prevalence of violent injuries among male students. Unlike male students, mental stress and mothers' occupation were not associated with violent injuries among female students. University type was also associated with violent injuries but this association was inverted (OR: 0.06) among female students. This study found gender-specific relationships affecting violent injuries among college students in China. Prevention strategies need to be developed in consideration of gender influences and should be enacted to reduce the negative impact of violent injuries on society and personal health in China.

Abstract:This study aims to investigate the current situation and influencing factors of violence exposure in lifetime among Chinese middle school students. A sample of 2959 middle school students (M-age = 15.92 years, SD = 1.89) were investigated by Community Experiences Questionnaire (CEQ), Peer Group Questionnaire and the General Questionnaire. The results showed that participants had higher scores on violence exposure (both victimization and witnessing) in community than that in the family; participants from single parent family, with lower parent education level, with growing up in rural areas, with non-nuclear family or with siblings reported significantly higher scores; male students also scored significantly higher than female students in domestic and community violence exposure. The analysis of stepwise multiple regression indicated that gender and deviant behaviors of peers were significant influencing factors for the violence exposure of the subjects. Considering the huge negative effects of violence exposure on middle school students who are in their critical mental and physical development stage in their life, it is necessary for parents and society to offer forceful support in violence exposure prevention and effectively handle problems raised by existing violence exposure.

Abstract:Violence against children includes all forms of violence against people under 18 years old whether perpetrated by parents or other caregivers, peers, partners, teacher or strangers. This is a public health, human rights, and social problem: levels of violence against children are frightfully high and it is estimated that up to 1 billion children aged 2–17 years, have experienced a type of violence. Very few studies provided physical violence perpetrated at school but it can have a physical impact, causing psychological distress, permanent physical disability and long-term physical or mental ill-health. Children who experienced any type of violence at school may develop reactive attachment disorder, modest physical inactivity, overweight or obesity, diabetes, smoking habits, heavy alcohol use, poor self-rated health, cancer, heart disease, and respiratory disease and other negative outcomes. Evidence from international studies clearly shows that nonviolent, positive discipline delivers better results, while any type of violence is associated with many negative one.

Abstract:Introduction: School violence it’s a problem that involves a lot of bad consequences for the life’s students. So preventing and research about it are very important. Objective: The objective of this study was identify the experiences of violence of students from public schools participating in the PSE - School Health Program and SPE - Health and Prevention in the Schools of Florianópolis. Methods: Participants were 871 students from the 9th grade of elementary school to the 3rd year of high school with a mean age of 15 years and 6 months. Results: Regarding the experiences of violence, 81.6% stated that they had already witnessed scenes of violence, with 51.1% of these scenes occurring at school. Besides, 28% of the participants reported having already suffered prejudice at school. There was a statistically significant association between violent behavior and being a boy, having a habit of watching movies and playing video games with violent content, killing classes and having a regular to bad relationship with teachers. Conclusions: Violence is part of student’s daily activities, involving a broad context and it is pretty much related to school.

Abstract:This study,by surveying 1213 secondary school students with the Questionnaire on Classroom Environment,the Questionnaire on Attitudes Toward Violence,and the Questionnaire on Aggressive Behavior,aims to probe into secondary school students' attitudes toward violence,as well as their role in the relationship between the classroom environment and their aggressive behavior.The results show the following:(1) The students show a high level of attitudes toward violence,with the boys showing a significantly higher level than the girls;the students show no grade difference in their attitudes toward violence,but their grade and gender have a significantly interactive effect on their attitudes toward violence.(2) The classroom environment can be used to indirectly predict their aggressive behavior,namely,their attitudes toward violence mediate between the classroom environment and their aggressive behavior.

Abstract:School violence not only affects the physical health and safety of young people, but also their mental health, social relationships and academic performance. In addition to this, student violence in middle school has different degrees of impact on the perpetrators and those affected by the violence. This paper provides an in-depth analysis of the characteristics and manifestations of violent behavior among middle school students, and studies the related factors that influence violent behavior among middle school students. It explores the causes of school violence among middle school students from four perspectives: school, family, society, and the students themselves, and discusses the prevention and management strategies through interviews and literature research with Kristen Calvin Middle School as the research subject.

In 2011, Otsu bullying incident in Japan exposed problems existed in schools and the Board of Education in dealing with school bullying. In this regard, the Japanese public called on government to formulate relevant laws and relegations as soon as possible. Influenced by Otsu incident, Japanese government promulgated Act on Promotion of Anti-Bullying in a short time. After the implementation of the Act, the academic circle made evaluation of the legislation and thought that there are many issues that need to be improved.
