Research on the Relationship between Covert Narcissism and Aggression

Abstract:Objective To explore the relationship between narcissism and aggression from the perspective of covert narcissism.Method 95 college students were investigated with Buss-Perry Aggression Questionnaire and Narcissism Personality Questionnaire,and the data received correlation and regression analysis.Results The correlation coefficients of overt narcissism and physical aggression and verbal attack were 0.352 and 0.302 respectively;the correlation coefficients of covert narcissism and physical aggression,verbal attack,anger and hostility were 0.444,0.367,0.435,0.350 respectively(P<0.01).Covert narcissism was in the regression equation of 4 dimensions of aggression(P<0.05).Conclusion Overt narcissism is positively correlated with physical aggression and verbal attack;covert narcissism is positively correlated with physical aggression,verbal attack,anger and hostility;overt narcissism has no predictive power for aggression,whereas covert narcissism can be a good predictor of aggression.
