Abstract:Recently,a national sampling survey has been conducted among 1,786 in-service young people from 12 cities to study the social adaptability of the first generation of single children in urban areas in China in terms of career, love, marriage, interpersonal relation, independent life and self-cognition.The results reveal that,except the slight difference in the aspect of independent living,the unmarried single children are not obviously different from other ordinary children in their adaptability to different aspects of the society. The concept that single children are poor in social adaptability has not been proved. In other words, the conclusion of the study does not support the prejudice that single children suffer poor social adaptability.
