Abstract:Abstrct: In terms of theoretical guidance, the maturity and consciousness of theories is not only an important sign of human social cultural progress, but also a indispensable standard for examining whether a cause is mature or not. "Research on Developing Higher Education Theories of Socialism with Chinese Characteristics", which originating from 1993, is a significant phase of researching proceeding of Chinese higher education's moving towards theoretical maturity, both at the basic and the leading level. Abstract:Socialism with Chinese characteristics is referred to as Chinese road or Chinese experience in the academic context of today's China,and,in that of the West,as Chinese model —— a hot topic for western scholars of contemporary China studies in the recent years.Their work is interesting to us in the following issues: 1) what is the background of the studies? 2) what is the significance of the studies? And 3) what do they think? The reason why many Chinese scholars fail so far to give any respond to the lively discussion on the Chinese model lies in the fact that these scholars,on the one hand,never probe deep into the studies,towards which they,on the other hand,adopt a negative attitude.If they keep on going like this,they are sure to give up their right to speak.It is correct and urgent for Chinese scholars to get engaged in the studies and try to give a legitimate account for the Chinese model by way of Marxist stand viewpoint and methodology,so that they may establish their own discursive system in this respect.

Abstract:In a historical perspective, the great significance of the discussion on social sciences in China consists in the fact that it symbolizes the termination of its shaping stage of imitation, so this inquiry may manifest itself as a turning-point for the social sciences in China. The constructive independence of social sciences requires the elimination of the dualistic antithesis between standardization/scientificization and localization/Chinalization.
