Abstract:Objective To assessment the completeness of the vital registration data from 1987 to 2003.Methods Using data of National Health Statistical Yearbooks, information published on other paper, population proportion from 2000 population census and Coale-Demeny model life tables,we employed Courbage-Fargues method to estimate the completeness of data in the MOH-VR system. Results At ages 5 and above, the completeness of death registration was 94.92% in men and 85.03% in women.Under ages 5 there was higher in the under-reporting of child deaths. The completeness changed in different socio-economic status, and the under-registration tended to be lower in higher socio-economic status. Conclusion Although there is under-reporting of deaths, especially in infants, the death registration could almost reflect population health status. But in areas of lower socio-economic more efforts should be devoted to the implementation and improvement of cause-of-death registration.
