Abstract:OBJECTIVE:To investigate the anatomic characteristics of lingual artery and hypoglossal nerve and relationship between lingual artery and hypoglossal nerve in tongue base, for the purpose of improving data with clinic and increasing safety in the operation of tongue base.METHOD:Twenty extraoral dissections of the submandibular region were performed on 10 human cadavers. The origin and distribution of lingual artery and hypoglossal nerve were observed: (1) The lingual artery was divided into four segments, length and adjacent organs were observed and measured; (2) The hypoglossal nerve length and adjacent organs were observed and measured; (3) The anatomic relationship of lingual artery and hypoglossal nerve was observed and measured.RESULT:The whole length of lingual artery was (9.73 +/- 0.83)cm. At points of foramen cecum of the tongue, 1 cm prior to foramen cecum, 1 cm behind foramen cecum and at adjacent part of foramen cecum to lateral tongue, hyoid, and distances between lingual artery and lateral of the tongue were separately measured. The distances were (2.34 +/- 0.20) cm, (2.48 +/- 0.14) cm, (2.43 +/- 0.26) cm, (2.53 +/- 0.33) cm, (2.14 +/- 0.16) cm, (1.11 +/- 0.09) cm, respectively. At points of foramen cecum of the tongue, 1 cm prior to foramen cecum, 1 cm behind foramen cecum and at adjacent part of hyoid, lateral tongue, and distance between hypoglossal nerve and midline of the inner mandible were separately measured. The distances were(2.28 +/- 0.14) cm, (2.36 +/- 0.16) cm, (2.34 +/- 0.21 ) cm, (1.25 +/- 0.42) cm, (1.86 +/- 0.32) cm, (2.64 +/- 0.28) cm, respectively. The position of the tongue base, lingual artery and hypoglossal nerve are significantly inferior and lateral, that is, 2 cm inferior and (1.11 +/- 0.09) cm lateral to the foramen cecum; (2.08 +/- 0.33) cm medial to the inner mandible.CONCLUSION:This inferior lateral location-'V' type- allows the potential for aggression tongue base resection without neurovascular bundle compromise. To ensure the operating safety, the depth and angle of radiofrequency of the tongue base for OSAHS should be controlled.

Abstract:Background: The anterior communicating artery complex, which is composed of anterior cerebral artery (ACA), anterior communicating artery (ACoA), and recurrent artery of Heubner, accounts for the anterior half of the circle of Willis and is a favorite site of aneurysm formation; ACoA accounts for most of intracranial aneurysms. Few authors have studied the microanatomy of the ACA in detail using different specimens; none of these studies involve Chinese specimen. We have studied this area on adult Chinese brain with the aid of surgical microscope. Methods: The anterior communicating artery complexes of 90 cerebral hemispheres from 45 formalin-fixed cadavers were dissected under microscope. Results: The length and diameter of the recurrent artery and their perforating branches were measured. Their supplying areas, the adjacent structures, and their variations were also recorded. Conclusion: The cerebral vessels of native people have many variations in structure. The result of this study is quite different from that of the foreign literatures. The microanatomy of cerebral vessels also provides important data in its morphology for neurosurgeons. (c) 2006 Elsevier Inc. All rights reserved.
Anatomical Study of Submental Artery Island Flap

Abstract:Objective To obtain the detailed anatomical data on submental artery island flap(SAIF) including the location,dimension and relationship of the submental artery with the submental vein.Methods Fifteen cases of 30 sides of fresh adult wet cadaveric heads were examined for gross and microscopic anatomy.Artery perfusion system was mixed with red dye emulsion and intravenous with blue dye emulsion.Vernier caliper was used for measurement and statistical analysis parameters,including initial diameter of the submental artery and its accompanying vein,length and main branch of submental artery and its relation with surface mark.Typical specimen and variations were observed and photographic retained.After artery was perfused with black ink,submental skin dyeing range was observed,the maximum length and width of the SAIF were measured and recorded,and the ranges that the flaps cover were surveyed.Results The submental artery was a well defined and stable branch of the facial artery,and its length was(69.1 ± 7.47;mean ± SD) mm.At its origin,the diameter of the submental artery was(1.6 ± 0.47) mm.The distance from mandible lower edge to submental artery was(5.4 ± 1.63) mm.As it courses,the submental artery gave off(6.5 ± 1.09) branches.The venous drainage of the SAIF was via the submental vein into the facial vein.The vein had a diameter of(2.30 ± 0.58) mm at the origin.The maximum size of the flap could be 84.6 mm × 53.5 mm.Conclusion The submental artery is a major blood-supple artery of the SAIF,which is a constant branch of the facial artery.Because of its abundant blood supply and convenient surgical proceeding,SAIF is a useful flap in head and neck repair and reconstruction.
ANATOMICAL STUDY ON FACIAL NERVE OUTSIDE OF THE CRANIAL CAVITY AND BLOOD SUPPLY OF PAROTID GLAND OF INFANT

Abstract:Objective:To inquire anatomical characteristics of the section of the facial nerve outside of the cranial cavity and the blood supply of parotid gland of infant.Methods:Red emulsion was injected into the external carotid artery of infant,then dissected the arteries under surgical microscope,observed the location?route?branches and distribution of the facial nerve outside of the cranial cavity and the origin of blood supply of parotid gland.Results:A series of data about the facial nerve outside of the cranial cavity and blood supply of parotid gland were obtained.Conclusion:This clinically experimental study can provide reliable anatomical base for parotid gland operation.

Abstract:Objective To observe the main blood vessels and nerves of mandibular angle region and to study the anatomical characteristics of them.Methods 10 adult skull specimens were choosed in the experiment.Anatomical observation and measurement were taken in the main blood vessels and nerves of mandibular angle region.The study included the course of the main blood vessels and nerves of mandibular angle region and the relationship between them and mandibular angle.Results The distance from facial artery,facial vein to mandibular angle separately were(30.06± 4.25)mm,(27.55±4.02)mm.The distance from retromandibular vein to posterior border of mandibular ascending branch and to mandibular angle separately were(3.00±0.56)mm,(12.20±1.09)mm.The distance from marginal mandibular branch of facial nerve to mandibular angle was(10.36±0.41)mm.Conclusion Through the anatomical study of the main blood vessels and nerves of mandibular angle region was taken.The common rules were summarized and provided the anatomical basis for the operation of mandibular angle.
Arterial Anastomosis in the Tongue

Abstract:Purpose: Radical surgery for neoplasms of the tongue can endanger at least 1 lingual artery, threatening the survival of the remaining tissue and the recovery of speech and swallowing. Although there is little anastomosis in the substance of the tongue, this study investigated whether arterial anastomoses outside the tongue could provide collateral circulation to protect the surviving tissue. Materials and methods: Parts of 9 embalmed cadaver heads were examined. In 2 specimens, the arteries had been previously injected with latex and India ink. In the remaining, a mixture of latex and India ink was injected into the lingual artery at its origin on 1 side. Five injections were successful. Results: There was considerable variation in the course and distribution of the lingual arteries. Arteries did not cross the midline of the tongue, but actual or potential anastomoses could be seen round the base of the tongue, in the floor of the mouth, and with facial artery branches. After the experimental injections, the mass filled the lingual artery and its branches on the injected side, but also reached the trunk and main branches of the opposite side. Conclusion: A mass injected into the lingual artery of 1 side can reach the trunk and territory of the lingual artery of the opposite side. In life, it is likely that a similar collateral circulation would exist. Some clinical literature supports this conclusion, but preoperative arteriography might be a reasonable precaution.
Applied anatomical study on blood supply of facial nerve in childhood

Abstract:Objective To explore the arterial origin and the distribution of the facial nerve. Methods Red latex was injected into the arteries of 10 head specimens in childhood by both common carotid artery catheterization. The arterial origin and distribution of the facial nerve were observed. Results The nutrient arteries of the extracranial segment of the facial nerve originated from stylomastoid artery, the facial nervous branch of superficial temporal artery, transverse facial artery, superior and inferior facial nervous branches of external carotid artery and the posterior and anterior facial nervous branches of facial artery. The nutrient arteries of the segment of the facial nerve originated from petrous branch of middle meningeal artery , stylomastoid artery, labyrinthine artery. Conclusion The blood supply of the facial nerve can provide anatomic basis for avoiding injury of the nutrient arteries of the facial nerve during operation

Abstract:AbstractObjectiveHemorrhage is the most common complication caused by transoral laryngopharyngeal surgery. It is believed that proper management of the superior laryngeal artery (SLA), the main feeding artery for the larynx and pharynx, may reduce intra‐ and postoperative hemorrhage incidence. The aim of this study was to illustrate the anatomy of the SLA via transoral endoscopic approach.MethodsFourteen sides of SLA from heads of seven fresh‐frozen and silicone‐injected cadavers were dissected. Transoral dissections were performed for the intra‐laryngeal segment of SLA, and transcervical dissections were performed to confirm the anatomical measurements.ResultsSLA had a slightly descending course from the origin to the larynx, and there was a major branch supplying the epiglottis, named pharyngo‐epiglottic artery (PEA). Parallel with the internal superior laryngeal nerve (ISLN), SLA passed through the thyrohyoid membrane and ended into the hypopharynx. The distance from SLA to the superior horn of thyroid cartilage (SHTC) was (9.11 ± 0.58)mm on the left and (9.01 ± 0.37)mm on the right; the distance from SLA to the inferior margin of the hyoid bone (IMHB) was (2.00 ± 0.11)mm on the left and (1.95 ± 0.08)mm on the right; the distance from SLA to ISLN was (5.98 ± 0.48)mm on the left and (5.78 ± 0.36)mm on the right. No significant difference was found between bilateral sides (p > 0.05). Moreover, the distance from SLA to superior margin of thyroid cartilage (SMTC) was (5.52 ± 0.24)mm on the left and (5.80 ± 0.15)mm on the right. A significant difference was also found between bilateral sides (p = 0.03), which might suggest the SLA is located further from the SMTC on the right side.ConclusionSHTC, SMTC, and IMHB could be regarded as anatomical landmarks to locate SLA when applying a transoral approach. Moreover, a complete understanding of the detailed anatomy of the superior laryngeal artery may improve the detection of hemostasis in transoral laryngeal or hypo‐pharyngeal surgery.
The complete anatomy of the lingual nerve: a meta‐analysis with implications for oral and maxillofacial surgery

Abstract:Introduction Lingual nerve (LN) injury during surgical procedures in the third molar region warrants a detailed study of its common pathway and important variations. Therefore, the objective of this study was to analyze and compile the multiple anatomical variations of the LN for use in oral and maxillofacial surgery. It is anticipated that the results of the present meta‐analysis may help to minimize the possible complications when performing procedures associated with this anatomical entity. Materials and Methods Major online databases such as PubMed, Web of Science, Scopus, Embase were used to gather all relevant studies regarding the LN anatomy. Results The results were established based on a total of 1665 LNs. The pooled prevalence of the LN being located below the lingual/ alveolar crest was found to be 77.87% (95% CI: 0.00%‐100.00%). The LN was located above the lingual/ alveolar crest in 8.21% (95% CI: 4.63%‐12.89%) of examined nerves. The most common shape of the LN was established to be round with a prevalence of 40.96% (95% CI: 23.96%‐59.06%), followed by oval at 37.98% (95% CI: 23.98%‐53.02%) and flat at 25.16% (95% CI: 12.85%‐39.77%). Conclusion In conclusion, we believe that this is the most accurate and up‐to‐date study regarding the anatomy of the LN. The LN was found to be located below the lingual/alveolar crest in 77.87% of the cases. Furthermore, the LN was found to enter the tongue under the submandibular duct in 68.39% of the cases. Knowledge about the anatomy of the LN is crucial for numerous oral and maxillofacial procedures such as during the extraction of the third molar. This article is protected by copyright. Abstract:Objective To provide morphological basis for medical imaging and surgery by studying applied anatomy of the hypoglossal canal(HC)and its adjacent bony structures.Methods Bony HC and its associated bony structures were observed and measured in 20 dried skull-basic bones,15 dried atlases,15 wet head-neck specimens of adults with thin-cut CT scan examination and 3 adults with head-neck MRI examination.Results The HC was a paired bony passage situated at the anterolateral margin of the magnum foramen,which extracranial opening was just located anterosuperior to the transverse process of the atlas(TPA);and the distance from its intracranial opening to the upper surface of the jugular tubercle was 5.3±1.8 mm left and 4.8±1.6 mm right,respectively and the distance between the TPA and the occipital bone was 7.6±4.1 mm left and 5.8±2.5 mm right,respectively.Its adjacent bony structures were complex and variable and there were 1 case with dysplasia jugular bulb and 1 with separated lateral mass of the atlas and 3 with canalized vertebral artery groove and 2 with assimilation of atlas in the study.Conclusions An intimate knowledge of the HC and its adjacent bony structures is essential and mandatory for understanding of neuroimaging,clinical diagnosis and surgical plan.
Anatomic and histological study of great auricular nerve and its clinical implication

Abstract:Background: The great auricular nerve (GAN) is often sacrificed during parotidectomy, rhytidectomy, and platysma flap operation. Transection of the nerve results in a wooden numbness of preauricular region, pain, and neuroma. The aim of this study was to describe the branching patterns and distribution area of the GAN. Methods: Twenty-five embalmed, adult hemifacial Korean cadavers (16 males, nine females; mean age 62.5 years) were used in this study. The branching of the GAN was determined through careful dissection. The histological structure of the GAN was also examined by harvesting and sectioning specimens, and then viewing them with the aid of a light microscope. Results: The branching pattern of the anterior, posterior, deep, and superficial branches of the GAN could be classified into five types: type I (20%), where the deep branches arose from the anterior branch; type II (24%), where all branches originated at the same point; type III (28%), where the deep branch arose from the posterior branch; type IV (8%), where the superficial branches arose from the posterior branch; and type V (20%), where the anterior and posterior branches ran independently. A connection between the GAN and the facial nerve trunk was observed in all specimens, and a connection with the auriculotemporal nerve was observed in a few specimens. The total fascicular area of both regions decreased from proximal (1.42 mm2) to distal (0.60 mm2). There were 2.5 and 5 fascicles in the proximal and distal regions, respectively. Conclusion: The results reported herein will help toward preservation of the GAN during surgery in the region of the parotid gland. Furthermore, the histologic findings suggest that the GAN would be a good donor site for nerve grafting.
[Anatomic study of the hypoglossal nerve in hypoglossal-facial nerve anastomosis]

Abstract:Objective: To determine the optimal position of hypoglossal nerve in hypoglossal-facial nerve anastomosis and the eligibility of hypoglossal-facial nerve anastomosis with the cervical loop. Methods: The cervical course and adjacent structures of the hypoglossal nerve were observed on 21 adult cadavers. The hypoglossal nerve and facial nerve were taken from 3 fresh specimens, and the number of the fasciculus and the cross-sectional area of the nerve were measured. Results: The facial nerve trunk were monofascicular with a cross-sectional area of 5.1-/+0.2 (range 4.6-5.7) mm(2). The number of the fasciculus and the cross-sectional areas of the nerve trunk and the fasciculus were 1.6-/+0.8 (range 1-4) mm(2) , 7.5-/+0.7 mm(2) (range 6.8-8.0) mm(2), and 4.7-/+0.6 (4.1-5.5) mm(2), respectively, at the proximal segment of the hypoglossal nerve, 3.6-/+0.5 (1-5) mm(2) , 5.6-/+0.5 (4.9-6.1) mm(2) , and 1.6-/+0.4 (0.9-2.2) mm(2) at the distal segment, and 2.4-/+0.8 (1-3) mm(2), 1.1-/+0.7 (0.6-2.2) mm(2), and 0.5-/+0.3 (0.3-1.2) mm(2) at the cervical loop. Conclusion: The cervical loop is inadequate for facial nerve anastomosis and the proximal segment is large enough to allow partial harvesting of the hypoglossal nerve for neurotisation of the facial nerve.
Anatomic and Clinical Study on the Human Atrio-Ventricular Node Artery

Abstract:Objective: To provide the anatomical basis for invasive cardiological procedures and cardiac surgery. Methods: The origin and course of the atrio-ventricular node artery (AVNA) was studied by the method of injection-dissection in 55 human hearts. The outer diameter and the length of AVNA, the distance from AVNA to the attachment of the septal cusp of the right atrio-ventricular valve, and the distance to the orifice of the coronary sinus were measured. Results: Though sometimes appearing double (16.4%) , the AVNA was solitary general (83.6%). Its coronary origin came from the right side in the great majority of cases (87.5%) .The outer diameter of AVNA was (1.0±0.2) mm and the length of its trunk was (18.7±4.3) mm. In the area of Koch's triangle, the distance from the trunk of AVNA to the orifice of the coronary sinus was (4.6±2.1) mm, to the 1attachment of the septal cusp was (5.2±2.1) mm. Conclusion: AVNA varies considerably in its course in Koch's triangle. In invasive cardiological procedures and cardiac surgery, we should pay attention to the area of Koch's triangle to reduce the risks of injury to the AVNA.

Abstract:Objective:To study the anatomical relationship of TMJ with the adjacent anatomic landmarks and important nerves and vessels for the application of TMJ operation with arthroscopy.Methods:TMJs of 7 corpses were dissected and studied anatomically.The anterior inclining angle of external auditory canal was measured on 20 CT films which show the symmetry of bilateral external auditory meatus and the central position of nasal septum.Results:Close anatomical relation was observed between TMJ with the frontal branch of facial nerve,the transverse facial artery and vein,as well as the auricular nerve and vascular plexus.Conclusions:The anatomic relationship of adjacent tissues with the structure of TMJ is the important reference for operations with TMJ arthroscopy.
Anatomical Landmarks of the Facial Artery and Vein for Intraoral Anastomosis: A Cadaveric Study

Abstract:Background Intraoral anastomosis is a widely used technique for microvascular alveolar ridge augmentation and midface reconstruction. However, the predictable anatomical positioning of facial structures, such as the vessels, parotid duct, and facial nerve in the buccal region, has remained unclear. Therefore, we aimed to obtain the anatomical characteristics of these locations to establish surgical landmarks for the intraoral anastomosis of facial vessels. Methods A total of 26 sides from 13 formaldehyde‐fixed cadavers approximately a month after fixation with a mean age at death of 86.6 ± 11.2 years (range: 55–104 years) were anatomically examined. Facial vessels, nerves, and the parotid duct were dissected intraorally. From the oral cavity side, the X‐axis was defined as the line from the labial commissure to the lowest point of the intertragic notch. Results From the oral cavity side, all branches of the facial nerve were found under the facial artery and vein. The positioning order along the X‐axis was the facial artery, vein, and parotid duct exit. The facial artery was 21.3 ± 2.2 mm and the facial vein was 39.2 ± 2.7 mm from the labial commissure. Ninety‐two percent of facial veins were found within 15–20 mm of the facial artery on the X‐axis. The parotid duct exit was 46.8 ± 2.0 mm from the labial commissure. In the buccal region, the vessel calibers of the facial artery and vein were 1.8 ± 0.2 and 2.1 ± 0.2 mm, respectively. Conclusion Knowledge of the anatomical relations among the facial artery, vein, parotid duct, and facial nerve from the oral cavity side can enhance the safety and efficacy of midface reconstruction surgeries involving intraoral anastomosis procedures.

Microanatomical Study on the Nutrient Artery of Facial Nerve in Cerebellopontine Angle

Abstract:OBJECTIVE:To explore the arterial origin of the facial nerve and the site of the arteries joining it in cerebellopontine angle (CPA), in order to provide anatomical data for clinical application.METHODS:The nutrient arteries were observed on 22 fresh adult head specimens fixed and perfused with formalin and gelatin under operation microscope.RESULTS:Of all the nutrient arteries of facial nerve motor root,31 were derived from the artery loops in CPA space (50.82%) and 17 from the branch of anterior inferior cerebellar artery (27.88%). Eight of them originated from the labyrinthine artery (13.1%), 3 from posterior inferior cerebellar artery (4.92%) and 2 from basilar artery (3.28%) respectively. Forty-seven nutrient arteries (77.05%) entered the proximal 1/3 segment of facial nerve motor root. Thirty-six nutrient arteries of nervus intermedius raised from the artery loops in CPA space (73.47%), 7 from the branch of anterior inferior cerebellar artery (14.29%) and 6 from labyrinthine artery (12.24%) respectively.CONCLUSIONS:The observation of the arterial origin of the facial nerve and the site of the arteries joining it in cerebellopontine angle provided an anatomic basis for the etiology of hemifacial spasm and the microsurgical operation in CPA.

Abstract:The glossopharyngeal nerve is a complicated and mixed nerve including sensory, motor, parasympathetic, and visceral fibers. It mediates taste, salivation, and swallowing. The low cranial nerves, including IXth, Xth, and XIth, are closely related, sharing some nuclei in the brainstem. The glossopharyngeal nerve arises from the spinal trigeminal nucleus and tract, solitary tract and nucleus, nucleus ambiguous, and inferior salivatory nucleus in the brainstem. There are communicating branches forming a neural anastomotic network between low cranial nerves. Comprehensive knowledge of the anatomy of the glossopharyngeal nerve is crucial for performing surgical procedures without significant complications. This review describes the microsurgical anatomy of the glossopharyngeal nerve and illustrates some pictures involving the glossopharyngeal nerve and its connective and neurovascular structures.

How to create a nervous system aneurysm model in canines? ligation of the lingual artery is a simple and effective method

Abstract:Background: The purpose of this research was to establish a safe, effective, and simple nervous system aneurysm model. This method could quickly and stably establish an exact canine tongue aneurysm model. This paper summarizes the technique and key points of the method. Methods : Under the condition of anesthesia by inhaling isoflurane with a mask, we punctured the femoral artery of the canine, and the tip of the catheter was placed in the common carotid artery for intracranial arteriography. The positions of the lingual artery, external carotid artery, and internal carotid artery were identified. Then, the skin near the mandible was cut according to the positioning and separated layer by layer until the bifurcation of the lingual artery and external carotid artery was exposed. The lingual artery were then sutured with 2–0 silk sutures approximately 3 mm from the external carotid/lingual artery bifurcation. The final angiographic review showed that the aneurysm model was successfully established. Results : The lingual artery aneurysm was successfully established in all 8 canines. All canines obtained a stable model of nervous system aneurysm and confirmed by DSA angiography. Conclusion : We have established a safe, effective, stable and simple method to establish a canine nervous system aneurysm model with controllable size. In addition, this method has the advantages of no arteriotomy, less trauma, constant anatomical location, and low risk of stroke.

Abstract:Objective To investigate the anatomical structures of the neurovascular complex in the cerebellopontine angle region to offer anatomical materials for clinical microvascular decompression.Methods A total of 20 adult cadaveric heads fixed in 10% formalin were used for this study.After cutting cerebrum from the midbrain and the dura covering the cerebellum,the trans-suboccipital retrosigmoid approach to the CPA region was simulated.Dissections were observed and photographed gradually.Results The upper neurovascular complex included trochlear nerve,trigeminal nerve and superior cerebellar artery(SCA),superior petrosal vein,superior petrosal sinus,and anteroinferior cerebellar artery(AICA),et al.The trunk loop and its originating point of the branch of SCA usually compressed the upper trigeminal nerve entering/exiting zone of brainstem.The middle neurovascular complex mainly included abducens,facial,vestibulocochlear nerve,anteroinferior cerebellar artery(AICA),and posteroinferior cerebellar artery(PICA),et al.AICA often folded and entered the internal acoustic meatus with a labyrinthine branch.The lower neurovascular complex included glossopharyngeal,vagus,accessory and hypoglossal nerve,PICA,vertebral artery(VA),et al.Conclusion More than one compressive vessels and compressive points can be identified.A detailed anatomical study could improve the effect of microvascular compression operation.

Abstract:OBJECTIVE:To observe and measure the inside diameter of basicranial arteries, the angulation of main arteries, the three dimensional image characteristic of internal carotid arteries and the anatomical variation of Willis circle.METHODS:The arteries of 30 formalin-fixed adult heads were injected with latex after which the caliber and characteristic of cerebral arteries were observed and measured. The three dimensional image characteristic of internal carotid arteries and its branches were measured using 3D-DSA.RESULTS:(1) Main artery caliber: origin of internal carotid artery (Left 5.12 +/- 1.48 mm; Right 5.11 +/- 1.42 mm); origin of middle cerebral artery (Left 2.93 +/- 1.44 mm; Right 2.92 +/- 1.46 mm); origin of anterior cerebral artery (Left 2.63 +/- 1.33 mm; Right 2.61 +/- 1.32 mm); origin of vertebral artery (Left 4.37 +/- 1.21 mm; Right 3.22 +/- 1.64 mm); origin of basilar artery (4.45 +/- 1.28 mm); origin of posterior cerebral artery (Left 2.62 +/- 1.36 mm; Right 2.61 +/- 1.22 mm). (2) The angulation of main arteries: C1, 2 of ICA and C4, 5 of ICA (Left 32 +/- 22 degrees; Right 36 +/- 28 degrees ); ICA and ACA (Left 43 +/- 26 degrees; Right 46 +/- 28 degrees). (3) The results show that anatomical and three dimensional image characteristic of internal carotid arteries have no difference (P > 0.05). (4) The anatomical variation of Willis circle: Type O (56.7%); Type A (16.7%); Type P (20.0%); Type AP (6.7%).CONCLUSIONS:It is helpful to measure the inside diameter of basicranial arteries for the selection of various catheter in interventional neuroradiology, to observe the angulation of main arteries and the three dimensional image characteristic of internal carotid arteries for the moulding of various catheter in endovascular therapy and to master the anatomical variation of Willis circle for decreasing complications of endovascular treatment and judging prognosis of cerebrovascular diseases.
