Abstract:In many theories of physics beyond the Standard Model, from extra dimensions to Hidden Valleys and models of dark matter, Z' bosons mediate between Standard Model particles and hidden sector states. We study the feasibility of observing such hidden states through an invisibly decaying Z' at the LHC. We focus on the process pp -> \gamma Z' -> \gamma X X*, where X is any neutral, (quasi-) stable particle, whether a Standard Model (SM) neutrino or a new state. This complements a previous study using pp -> Z Z' -> l+ l- X X*. Only the Z' mass and two effective charges are needed to describe this process. If the Z' decays invisibly only to Standard Model neutrinos, then these charges are predicted by observation of the Z' through the Drell-Yan process, allowing discrimination between Z' decays to SM neutrinos and invisible decays to new states. We carefully discuss all backgrounds and systematic errors that affect this search. We find that hidden sector decays of a 1 TeV Z' can be observed at 5 sigma significance with 50 fb^{-1} at the LHC. Observation of a 1.5 TeV state requires super-LHC statistics of 1 ab^{-1}. Control of the systematic errors, in particular the parton distribution function uncertainty of the dominant Z \gamma background, is crucial to maximize the LHC search

Abstract:The origin of tiny neutrino mass is an unsolved puzzle leading to a variety of phenomenological aspects beyond the Standard Model (BSM). Among several interesting attempts, $U(1)$ gauge extension of Standard Model (SM) is a simple and interesting set-up where the so-called seesaw mechanism is incarnated by the addition of three generations of right-handed neutrinos followed by the breaking of $U(1)$ and electroweak symmetries. Such scenarios are anomaly free in nature appearing with a neutral BSM gauge boson ($Z^\prime$). In addition to that, there comes another open question regarding the existence of a non-luminous, hitherto unidentified object called Dark Matter (DM) originating from the measurement of its relic density. To explore properties of $Z^\prime$, we focus on chiral and flavored scenarios where $Z^\prime-$neutrinos interaction could be probed in the context of cosmic explosions like gamma-ray burst (GRB221009A, so far the highest energy), blazar (TXS 0506+056) and Active galaxy (NGC1068) respectively. The neutrino antineutrino annihilation produces electron-positron pair which could energize GRB through energy deposition. Taking the highest energy GRB under consideration and estimating the energy deposition rates we constrain $Z^\prime$ mass $(M_{Z^\prime})$ and the additional $U(1)$ coupling $(g_X)$ for chiral and flavored scenarios in the Schwarzchild, Hartle-Thorne and modified gravity frameworks. On the other hand, adding viable and alternative DM candidates in these models we study neutrino-DM scattering mediated by $Z^\prime$ in the $t-$ channel and estimate constraints on $g_X-M_{Z^\prime}$ plane using observed data of high energy neutrinos from cosmic blazar and active galaxy at the IceCube experiment. We compare our results with bounds obtained from different scattering, beam-dump and $g-2$ experiments.

Abstract:The tiny neutrino masses can be explained naturally by extending the standard model with right-handed Majorana neutrinos in a low-scale seesaw mechanism, and the CP violation effect induced by the Majorana phase is interesting and worth studying at colliders. In this paper, we investigate the prospects for measuring CP violation in top quark pair production and rare decay via Majorana neutrinos at the LHC. The CP asymmetry stems from the significant interference of contributions from two different Majorana neutrinos and can be appreciable when the two neutrino masses are nearly degenerate. It is found that in the Majorana neutrino mass range of 10 GeV<mn<80 gev , the CP asymmetry is independent of the Majorana neutrino mass at the LHC. Invisible decays of vector Charmonia and Bottomonia

Abstract:We compute the branching fractions of vector quarkonia ($V_Q=J/\psi, \psi', \Upsilon(nS)$) decays into neutrino pairs, considering both Dirac and Majorana types, within the Standard Model (SM) and beyond. The vector nature of quarkonium states yields a decay width in the SM that depends upon the weak vector coupling of the heavy quark, offering the possibility to measure the weak mixing angle at the quarkonia mass scales. If neutrinos have non-standard neutral weak couplings, this could help to distinguish the nature of neutrinos in principle.

Abstract:We investigate the double differential neutrino-carbon quasielastic cross sections as measured by the MiniBooNE experiment. Our present treatment incorporates relativistic corrections in the nuclear response functions and includes the multinucleon component. We confirm our previous conclusion that it is possible to account for all the data without any modification of the axial mass. We also introduce the Q2 distribution for charged and neutral current. The data point at a sizable multinucleon component beside the genuine quasielastic peak. They are also indicative of the collective character of the nuclear response, of interest for hadronic physics.

Quarkonium production in pp and heavy-ion collisions

Abstract:We describe bottomonium production not only in pp collisions but also in heavy-ion collisions by using the Remler's formalism where quarkonium density operator is applied to all possible combination of heavy quark and heavy antiquark pairs. In pp collisions heavy (anti)quark momentum is provided by the PYTHIA event generator after rescaling $p_T$ and rapidity to imitate the FONLL calculations. Then spatial separation between heavy quark and heavy antiquark is introduced based on the uncertainty principle. In heavy-ion collisions quarkonium wavefunction changes with temperature assuming heavy quark potential equals the free energy of heavy quark and heavy antiquark system in heat bath. The density operator is updated whenever heavy quark or heavy antiquark scatters in QGP produced in heavy-ion collisions. Our results are consistent with the experimental data from ALICE and CMS Collaborations assuming that the interaction rate of heavy (anti)quark in quarkonium is suppressed to 10 \% that of unbound heavy (anti)quark. We also find that off-diagonal recombination of bottomonium barely happens even in Pb+Pb collisions at $\sqrt{s}=5.02$ TeV.

Abstract:In (ultra-)relativistic heavy-ion collisions, the strongly interactingmatter is predicted to undergo a phase transition into a plasma of deconfinedquarks and gluons (QGP) and quarkonia probe different aspects of this medium.However, the medium modification of quarkonium production includes also the contribution of cold nuclear matter effects (CNM), such as shadowing or nuclear break-up in addition to QGP effects. Proton--nucleus collisions, where no QGP is expected, are used to measure cold nuclear matter effects on quarkonium production. Vacuum production of quarkonia is modelled in proton--proton (pp) collisions, which are used as reference for both heavy-ion and proton--nucleus collisions. Besides serving as reference, results in pp collisions represent a benchmark test of QCD based models in both perturbative and non-perturbative regimes. The ALICE detector has unique capabilities at the LHC for measuring quarkonia down to zero transverse momentum. Measurements are carried out at both central and forward rapidity, in the dielectron and dimuon decay channel, respectively. In this contribution the latest quarkonium measurements for various energies and colliding systems, performed by the ALICE Collaboration during the LHC Run-2 period, will be discussed.
Discovering heavy neutrino-antineutrino oscillations at the $Z$-pole

Abstract:Collider-testable type I seesaw extensions of the Standard Model are generally protected by an approximate lepton number (LN) symmetry. Consequently, they predict pseudo-Dirac heavy neutral leptons (HNLs) composed of two nearly degenerate Majorana fields. The interference between the two mass eigenstates can induce heavy neutrino-antineutrino oscillations (NNOs) leading to observable lepton number violation (LNV), even though the LN symmetry is approximately conserved. These NNOs could be resolved in long-lived HNL searches at collider experiments, such as the proposed Future Circular $e^+e^-$ Collider (FCC-$ee$) or Circular Electron Positron Collider (CEPC). However, during their $Z$-pole runs, the LN carried away by the light (anti)neutrinos produced alongside the HNLs prevents LNV from being observed directly. Nevertheless, NNOs materialise as oscillating signatures in final state distributions. We discuss and compare a selection of such oscillating observables, and perform a Monte Carlo simulation to assess the parameter space in which NNOs could be resolved.

Discovering an invisible Z' at the muon collider

Abstract:We show in this letter how a heavy $(\mathcal{O}(TeV))$ invisible $Z'$ gauge boson that will practically be out of reach of the Large Hadron Collider (LHC), can be discovered at the future muon collider. The new force carrier has a relatively stronger coupling with the beyond standard model (BSM) sector, while its interaction with the SM fields is much weaker. This weaker coupling is induced through mixing mechanisms, specifically via gauge kinetic mixing and the $Z-Z'$ mixing. We consider a scenario where the new gauge boson decays mostly to charge-neutral long-lived particles and/or dark matter (DM). We show how producing and detecting this heavier invisible $Z'$, that will be beyond the reach of even the very high luminosity LHC, becomes possible if it is produced in association with an energetic photon at the future muon collider. The on-shell production of the $Z'$ will lead to a peak in the photon energy distribution, following the so-called radiative return phenomena and can lead to the accurate determination of the $Z'$ mass and its interaction with SM particles.

Abstract:We consider a hidden U ( 1 ) gauge symmetry under which only the right-handed neutrinos ( ν R ) are charged. The corresponding gauge boson is referred to as the ν R -philic Z ′ . Despite the absence of direct gauge couplings to ordinary matter at tree level, loop-induced couplings of the ν R -philic Z ′ via left-right neutrino mixing can be responsible for its experimental accessibility. An important feature of the ν R -philic Z ′ is that its couplings to neutrinos are generally much larger than its couplings to charged leptons and quarks, thus providing a particularly interesting scenario for future neutrino experiments such as DUNE to probe. We consider two approaches to probe the ν R -philic Z ′ at DUNE near detectors via (i) searching for Z ′ decay signals, and (ii) precision measurement of elastic neutrino-electron scattering mediated by the Z ′ boson. We show that the former will have sensitivity comparable to or better than previous beam dump experiments, while the latter will improve current limits substantially for large neutrino couplings.

Abstract:We calculate the atmospheric flux of prompt neutrinos, produced in decays of the charmed particles at energies beyond 1 TeV. Cross sections of the $D$-mesons and ${\Lambda}^{+}_{c}$ baryons production in pA and $\pi$A collisions are calculated in the phenomenological quark-gluon string model (QGSM) which is updated using of the recent measurements of cross sections of the charmed meson production in the LHC experiments. A new estimate of the prompt atmospheric neutrino flux is obtained and compared with the limit of the IceCube experiment as well as with predictions of other charm production models.

Abstract:The confinement transition from the quark and gluon degrees of freedom appropriate in perturbation theory to the hadrons observed by real world experiments is poorly understood. In this strongly interacting transition regime we presently rely on models, which to varying degrees reflect possible scenarios for the QCD dynamics. Because of the absence of beam and target remnants, and the clean experimental conditions and high event rates, e+e- annihilation to hadrons at the Z0 provides a unique laboratory, both experimentally and theoretically, for the study of parton hadronization. This review discusses current theoretical understanding of the hadronization of partons, with particular emphasis on models of the non-perturbative phase, as implemented in Monte Carlo simulation programs. Experimental results at LEP and SLC are summarised and considered in the light of the models. Suggestions are given for further measurements which could help to produce more progress in understanding hadronization.

Abstract:The properties of light leptoquarks predicted in the context of a simple grand unified theory and their observability at the LHC are investigated. The SU(5) symmetry of the theory implies that the leptoquark couplings to matter are related to the neutrino mass matrix. We study the resulting connection between neutrino masses and mixing parameters and the leptoquark decays, and show that different light neutrino hierarchies imply distinctive leptoquark decay signatures. We also discuss low-energy constraints implied by searches for charged lepton flavour violation, studies of meson decays, and electroweak precision data. We perform a detailed parton-level study of the leptoquark signals and the Standard Model backgrounds at the LHC. With the clean final states containing a di-lepton plus two jets, the QCD production of the leptoquark pair can be observed for a leptoquark mass of one TeV and beyond. By examining the lepton flavor structure of the observed events, one could further test the model predictions related to the neutrino mass spectrum. In particular, b-flavor tagging will be useful in distinguishing the neutrino mass pattern and possibly probing an unknown Majorana phase in the Inverted Hierarchy or the Quasi-Degenerate scenario. Electroweak associated production of the leptoquark doublet can also be useful in identifying the quantum numbers of the leptoquarks and distinguishing between the neutrino mass spectra, even though the corresponding event rates are smaller than for QCD production. We find that with only the clean channel of μ+E̸T+jets, one could expect an observable signal for a leptoquark masses of about 600 GeV or higher.
Uncovering secret neutrino interactions at tau neutrino experiments

Abstract:We investigate the potential of future tau neutrino experiments for identifying the ντ appearance in probing secret neutrino interactions, which is very important in a variety of fields, such as neutrino physics, dark matter physics, grand unified theories, astrophysics, and cosmology. The reference experiments include the DUNE far detector utilizing the atmospheric data, which is for the first time probing secret interactions, the Forward Liquid Argon Experiment (FLArE100) detector at the Forward Physics Facility, and emulsion detector experiments such as SND@LHC, FASERν , AdvSND, FASERν2 , and SND@SHiP. For concreteness, we consider a reference scenario in which the hidden interactions among the neutrinos are mediated by a single light gauge boson Z′ with a mass at most below the sub-GeV scale and an interaction strength gαβ between the active neutrinos να and νβ . We confirm that these experiments have the capability to significantly enhance the current sensitivities on gαβ for mZ′≲500 MeV due to the production of high-energy neutrinos and excellent ability to detect tau neutrinos. Our analysis highlights the crucial role of "downward-going" DUNE atmospheric data in the search for secret neutrino interactions because of the rejection of backgrounds dominated in the upward-going events. Specifically, ten years of DUNE atmospheric data can provide the best sensitivities on geτ and gμτ which are about 2 orders of magnitude improvement. In addition, the beam-based experiments such as FLArE100 and FASERν2 can improve the current constraint on geτ and gμτ by more than an order of magnitude after the full running of the high luminosity LHC with the integrated luminosity of 3 ab−1 . For geμ and gee the SHiP experiment can play the most important role in the high-energy region of mZ′>few 100 MeV , and FLArE100 and FASERν2 can set the most stringent constraints for mZ′ less than few keV, in particular, if atmospheric flux uncertainty reduces DUNE sensitivity. Possible New Species of Quarks and Hadrons

Abstract:Assuming that the strong interactions are mediated by a color-SU(3) gauge theory, we consider unusual possibilities for the constituents. The simplest possibility, "shiny" quarks, is that some new quarks are not triplets under color. We analyze the production and signatures for this possibility. Special attention is drawn to the spectroscopy of hadrons containing shiny quarks, some of which are absolutely stable. A more complicated (and possibly deeper dynamically) idea is that of "echo" quarks. These result when the unbroken color SU(3) arises from the breakdown of a larger SU(3) \ifmmode\times\else\texttimes\fi{} SU(3) gauge symmetry. The dynamical motivations for this speculation and the distinctive phenomena that follow from it are analyzed. We find that there is no evidence against echo quarks of quite low mass (\ensuremath{\gtrsim} 2 GeV), which might be produced at present-day accelerators.
