Abstract:In E-C translation instruction studies, the influence of the sentence length has been extensively explored by the translation theorists. Most of them come to the conclusion that the sentence average length in translational Chinese is longer than that of the original Chinese, but few of them has explained how the long sentences are constructed and why. By comparing the differences in the sentence length and the internal grammatical structures of the long sentences between original Chinese and translational Chinese, this paper will verify the fact that the difference in the orders of the noun modifiers in English and Chinese contributes to the long sentences in translational Chinese, which should be particularly instructed in E-C Translation lessons.

Studying the thinking characteristic of source languages and analyzing the differences between English and Chinese help to find the solution to the problems in translation. Recognition and Segmentation of English Long and Short Sentences Based on Machine Translation

Abstract:With the advent of the information age, long sentences which include many words and have more complex structures.. The translation of long sentences in English-Chinese machine translation has always been the focus of research. In this study, 400 long sentences were randomly selected from NTCIR-9 patent corpus for testing the recognition and segmentation effects of regular match method and error-driven method, and the accuracy rate of the translation was compared on Baidu Online Translation Platform. The results demonstrated that the regular matching method was effective in recognizing and segmenting long sentences, nevertheless there were many defects; the error-driven method was more effective in recognizing and segmenting long sentences; the former increased by 4.8% of the BLEU value of the translated text on Baidu Online Translation Platform and the latter increased by 12.1%, which showed that the error-driven method was more effective in machine translation.

Abstract:Classical Chinese poetry is an important literary genre in Chinese literature, of which the Tang poems and Song lyrics are two of the highest artistic achievements in ancient Chinese poetry. The study of classical poetry translation has become a hot topic in Chinese literary translation. This paper aims to study the translatability of Chinese classical poetry from the perspective of the translation strategies of Xu Yuanchong by selecting lyrics titled everlasting longing in the Chinese-English Translation of 300 Chinese Tang and Song Lyrics authored by Xu Yuanchong, an outstanding translator. In the translation of Xu Yuanchongs poems, he emphasized the beauty of meaning, form and sound. Through a theoretical overview of important translation strategies and case study of the translation strategies adopted by Xu Yuanchong, the following conclusions are drawn: Xu Yuanchongs translation strategy of creative translation has greatly improved the translatability of classical Chinese poetry. Due to the particularity of the poetry style and literary form, the semantic meaning loss can be caused to a certain extent, so the translation strategy oriented by functional equivalence and aesthetic pursuit can provide the reference for the translation of Chinese classical poems and lyrics.

Abstract:With the development of science,new subjects with a new technical vocabulary spurt from technology and science, and it makes translation in EST more difficult. It turns out that similarities between English and Chinese can be handled easily in translation, while differences between the two make translation in EST a hard task. The intention of this study is to analyze the formulas of the patterns between English and Chinese in thinking and explore possible advantages in translation practice.

Abstract:Based on the study of mother-tongue acquisition, this paper probes into the teaching of translation through the analysis of semantic match-making and syntactic frames. It provides a justifiable distinction between teaching translation and translation teaching. In teaching translation learners are exposed to more grammar translation and matched chunks than to semantic processing as expected in translation teaching class, where active and conscious involvements in processing mis-matched chunks are necessary. This process is problem-solving in nature. The application of semantic match-making in the two kinds of teaching can greatly strengthen students' cognitive power and creative performance.
Semantic Analysis and Chinese Translation of English Preposition Based on Semantic Pattern Decomposition

Abstract:This paper presents the concept of semantic pattern,and constructs semantic pattern base of English preposition phrases and sentences,major parameter base and knowledge base of English set phrases.Based on the characteristics of the semantic patterns of English prepositions,a new semantic analysis and Chinese translation algorithm based on semantic pattern decomposition is presented,which combines with sentence semantic pattern base and set phrases knowledge base to resolve the problem.Test results show that this method has a good effect on resolving Chinese translation of English prepositions.

Abstract:Wen Xin Diao Long is a classical literary commentary in ancient China, which has both Chinese traditional literary thoughts and educational values. Based on the vigorous development of Chinese traditional literature translation study and the present situation of English translation research on Wen Xin Diao Long, this paper aims to study the commonality and differences between the three translators Shi Youzhong[Vincent Yu-chung Shih], Huang Zhaojie and Yang Guobin in dealing with the phenomenon of creative treason and cultural imagery transmission in the English translation of Cheng Qi in Wen Xin Diao Long from the perspective of Medio-translatology, explores the different ways of dealing with the original text and the translation of traditional cultural elements in the three translators’ translation, and discusses the role and influence of translators’ subjectivity and cultural factors, with a view to promoting its overseas translation and English translation studies.

Abstract:Chinese is a verb-dominated language, while English is a noun-dominated language. In Chinese-English translation, Translators must deal with Chinese verbs based on the characteristics of English. Through analyzing the subtitle of Aerial China: Jiangxi, it found that translators have used different translation strategies to translate Chinese verbs into English. When dealing with Chinese verbs, translators mainly adopt the following strategies: translating Chinese verbs into English nouns, Translating Chinese verbs into English prepositions, and translating part of verbs of serial verb construction into English non-predicate forms. It is hoped that this article can provide reference for the translation of Chinese verbs in Chinese-English translation.

Abstract:The study of run-on sentences is one of the hot topics in contemporary Chinese linguistic research. Professor Zhao Yuanren’s concept of “mini sentence is fundamental” explains the reason for the prevalence of run-on sentences in Chinese, touching upon the essence of Chinese expression. Guided by Translation Variation Theory, this article takes the translation practice of the Biography of Li Yanlu, the first chapter of Biographies of Historical Figures of the CPC in Mudanjiang as an example to explore translation strategies for Chinese run-on sentences through methods such as addition and adaption.

Abstract:With the quick and deep development of globalization, cultural communication is deepening and covering various aspects. How to translate classical Chinese works not only comprehensively and precisely, but also easy for people who without cultural background to understand is becoming a heated problem. The affluent and high-valued minds in Lunyu almost ranks to the top among ancient Chinese works, and language in it is concise, advocating using a few words to express propounding thought. Therefore, fuzziness becomes one of its typical characteristics, however, the related research about translation strategies, reasons why translating in that way, and effects on it are lacking. This paper will under the direction of theories of fuzzy language and cultural context, picking representative instances mainly from Gu Hongming’s translation version to make a brief analysis. It comes out that main translation strategies are noting, paraphrasing, expounding, and omitting. Plus, reasons resulting in fuzziness will be illustrated, such as original characteristics of language itself,writing style, different culture backgrounds and so on. Moreover, it owns both benefits and drawbacks, such as providing more possibilities for translators to translate in the way which they believe is the best but there still have so much disputation among different versions. The aim of this thesis is through the deliberate statement, giving a little enlightenment towards other Chinese traditional works’ translation, especially fuzziness’s translation.

Abstract:Following the lead of Harman (2006), this is an analysis of the English prose translations of four Chinese university presentations on the Internet. Thanks to its spectacular progress in economics, China has gained worldwide attention. It is therefore no surprise that many Chinese universities feel that they must join the world competition in offering openings in higher education. The Internet is naturally their first choice for advertising their study programs and for enhancing their chances for international/collaboration. This article argues that many English translations of the presentations are unlikely to fulfill the mission. They are fairly unreadable because there is too much superfluous information which is, furthermore, often culture-bound and "culturally unchanged". The analysis is primarily intended to call attention to some of the features also noted by English translators in Chinese prose. In another perspective, it may help raise the awareness of Chinese translators of cultural differences, so as to make for smoother communication. The article briefly refers to the Skopos theory and questions concerning cultural values in the globalized world.

Abstract:Abstract This paper analyzes the “encoder-decoder” framework in neural machine translation and clarifies that the task of natural language processing is sequence learning. Secondly, recurrent neural networks are used to combine the historical hidden layer output information with the current input information, which is specialized in processing sequence data to achieve good translation results. Applying the attention mechanism to the field of natural language processing, a Transformer model based on the full attention mechanism is constructed in order to achieve the purpose of translating the source language while also performing alignment operations on the target language. The evaluation and analysis of the Transformer model based on the full-attention mechanism concludes that the Transformer model has 0.0152 Pearson correlation coefficients higher than the Bilingual Expert model, which is also 2.92% higher than the Bilingual Expert model, with the participation of f feature in both models. This further proves the Transformer model’s ability to correctly and effectively translate English sentences. At the same time, it also shows that the application of natural language processing technology can improve the efficiency of English long-sentence translation and comprehensively improve the quality of long-sentence translation.

Abstract:The development of linguistics in China is closely related to the terminology of the discipline and its translation. With the increasing number of linguistic terms, the translation of terms is bound to be inconsistent and even chaotic. Based on an overview of the characteristics of linguistic terms and their translation bottlenecks, the translation and clarity of linguistic terms are crucial in interpreting complex linguistic theories. Therefore, it is imperative to explore, identify and correct the translation of linguistic terms and put forward the feasible ways of translation. As far as the translation of linguistic terms is concerned, hermeneutic theory is operable in this application, and many problems in the translation of linguistic terms can be reasonably explained and caused by hermeneutic theory. Based on the translation practice of linguistic terms, this paper discusses the translation methods of linguistic terms from the perspective of Skopos theory, combining the theoretical research of Skopos theory with the author’s translation practice.

Abstract:Abstract The translation of philosophical works is a topic that merits our attention both in respect of philosophical understanding and linguistic structure, although it is the former rather than the latter that prevails in discussions in Chinese academia. By drawing upon that branch of modern linguistics known as the lexical field theory, this paper attempts to analyze a host of related problems, including the following: readability as a basic requirement of translation, difficulties in translation caused by the syntactic-typological distance of source and target languages, consistency of translated terms in general, consistency of semantically related terms in translation, consistency of translated terms regarding the syntagmatic axis and the paradigmatic axis, the use of monosyllabic, disyllabic, or polysyllabic Chinese terms in translation, translation of long or rare terms into Chinese, the middle way between ‘under-translation’ and ‘over-translation,’ identification of lexical fields for the systematic treatment of translated terms, and finally the in-depth understanding of original texts in their source languages as a prerequisite of any serious attempt of translation.

Abstract:When translating poetry, the unique literary genre poses a significant challenge to the translator’s ability. The work of translating English poems into Chinese has a history of 20 years in China. In this paper, the author collected and studied the strategies used in the translation of English poetry into Chinese from 2014 to 2024, focusing on solving the persistent confusion surrounding key terms such as “translation strategy”, “translation method” and “translation technique”. This study aims to clarify these structures and examine their practical significance in the context of real translation. In the decision-making process of translation strategy selection, translators need to balance cultural and aesthetic expectations with the practical application of these strategies. In this paper, a systematic literature review method is adopted as the methodology, and the results emphasize the importance of balancing domestication and foreignization strategies to ensure translation fidelity and emotional resonance. In addition, the study summarizes seven key research gaps, including the need for more empirical research to verify the effectiveness of these strategies in different contexts. This paper emphasizes the value of continuous academic discussion in improving translation practice, respecting both the original text and the nuances of regional languages, thereby contributing to a richer and more effective exchange of Chinese-English literature.
