Abstract:In this paper, the relationship between the sine-Gordon model with an integrable boundary condition and the Thirring model with boundary is discussed and the reflection R matrix for the massive Thirring model, which is related to the physical boundary parameters of the sine-Gordon model, is given. The relationship between the boundary parameters and the two formal parameters appearing in the work of Ghoshal and Zamolodchikov is also discussed.

Abstract:In this paper we prove a global existence result for nonlinear Klein–Gordon equations in infinite homogeneous waveguides, R×M, with smooth small data, where M=(M,g) is a Zoll manifold, or a compact revolution hypersurface. The method is based on normal forms, eigenfunction expansion and the special distribution of eigenvalues of the Laplace–Beltrami on such manifolds.

Abstract:In Pinkall and Sterling (Ann Math 130:407–451, 1989) and Hitchin (J Differ Geom 31:627–710, 1990) the solutions of the elliptic sinh-Gordon equation of finite spectral genus g are investigated. These solutions are parametrized by complex matrix-valued polynomials called potentials. On the space of these potentials there act two commuting flows. The orbits of these flows are called Polynomial Killing fields. For they are double periodic. The eigenvalues of these matrix-valued polynomials are preserved along the flows and determine the lattice of periods. For , we investigate the level sets of these eigenvalues, which are called isospectral sets, and the dependence of the period lattice on the isospectral sets. The limiting cases of spectral genus one and zero are included. These limiting cases are used to construct on every elliptic curve three conformal maps to which are constrained Willmore. Finally, the Willmore functional is calculated in dependence of the conformal class.

Abstract:In this paper, we investigate solutions of a (2+1)-dimensional sinh-Gordon equation. General solitons and (semi-)rational solutions are derived by the combination of Hirota’s bilinear method and Kadomtsev-Petviashvili hierarchy reduction approach. General solutions are expressed as N× N Gram-type determinants. When the determinant size N is even, we generate solitons, line breathers, and (semi-)rational solutions located on constant backgrounds. In particular, through the asymptotic analysis we prove that the collision of solitons are completely elastic. When N is odd, we derive exact solutions on periodic backgrounds. The dynamical behaviors of those derived solutions are analyzed with plots. For rational solutions, we display the interaction of lumps. For semi-rational solutions, we find the interaction solutions between lumps and solitons.
Sinh-Gordon equations on finite graphs

Abstract:In this paper, we focus on the sinh-Gordon equation on graphs. We introduce a uniform a priori estimate to define the topological degree for this equation with nonzero prescribed functions on finite, connected and symmetric graphs. Furthermore, we calculate this topological degree case by case and show several existence results. In particular, we prove that the classical sinh-Gordon equation with nonzero prescribed function is always solvable on such graphs.

Abstract:The authors define the Gauss map of surfaces in the three-dimensional Heisenberg group and give a representation formula for surfaces of prescribed mean curvature. Furthermore, a second order partial differential equation for the Gauss map is obtained, and it is shown that this equation is the complete integrability condition of the representation.

Abstract:The non-Abelian two-dimensional Toda lattice and matrix sine-Gordon equations with self-consistent sources are established and solved. Two families of quasideterminant solutions are presented for the non-Abelian two-dimensional Toda lattice with self-consistent sources. By employing periodic and quasi-periodic reductions, a matrix sine-Gordon equation with self-consistent sources is constructed for the first time, for which exact solutions in terms of quasideterminants are derived.

Abstract:In the paper, the existence of soliton and periodic solutions is studied for the perturbed sine–cosine–Gordon equation. The corresponding traveling wave system is converted to a regularly Hamilton system via using bifurcation theory of differential equations and the geometric singular perturbation theory. Then by using Melnikov's method and symbolic computation, periodic wave solutions, solitary solutions, and kink and antikink solutions are obtained. The wave speed selection principles are given, respectively. Numerical simulations are performed to illustrate our theoretical analysis.

Abstract:By using the discrete Lax matrices corresponding to Q1(0) and Q1(δ) in the Adler–Bobenko–Suris list of quadrilateral lattice equations, we establish solutions of the (2+1)‐dimensional Schwarzian Korteweg–de Vries (SKdV) equation and its generalizations. According to the structure of integrable Hamiltonian systems provided by one discrete Lax matrix for the Q1(0) lattice, we construct a novel Lax representation for the (2+1)‐dimensional SKdV equation. On the basis of the Riemann surface and elliptic variables, the Hamiltonian phase flows related to the equation are linearized by the Abel–Jacobi coordinates. Consequently, we obtain finite genus solutions to the (2+1)‐dimensional SKdV equation. From the discrete Lax matrix of the Q1(δ) lattice, we study the generalized (2+1)‐dimensional SKdV equation with a parameter δ , which can be reduced to a simple case of the Krichever–Novikov equation. Finally, we show that the case of δ=1/2 can also be solved through a modified version of the other discrete Lax matrix for the Q1(0) equation.

Abstract:We treat the lattice sine-Gordon equation and two of its generalised symmetries as a compatible system. Elimination of shifts from the two symmetries of the lattice sine-Gordon equation yields an integrable NLS-type system. An auto-Bäcklund transformation and a superposition formula for the NLS-type system is obtained by elimination of shifts from the lattice sine-Gordon equation and its down-shifted version. We use the obtained formulae to calculate a superposition of two and three elementary solutions.

Abstract:Through the modified deformation algorithm related to conservation laws, the (1+1)-dimensional AKNS(-1) equations are extended to a (4+1)-dimensional AKNS(-1) system. When one, two, or three of the independent variables are removed, the (4+1)-dimensional AKNS(-1) system degenerates to some novel (3+1)-dimensional, (2+1)-dimensional, and (1+1)-dimensional AKNS(-1) systems, respectively. Under a simple dependent transformation, the (1+1)-dimensional AKNS(-1) equations turn into the classical sine-Gordon equation. Then using the same deformation procedure, the (1+1)-dimensional sine-Gordon equation is generalized to a (3+1)-dimensional version. By introducing the deformation operators to the Lax pairs of the original (1+1)-dimensional models, the Lax integrability of both the (4+1)-dimensional AKNS(-1) system and the (3+1)-dimensional sine-Gordon equation is proven. Finally, the traveling wave solutions of the (4+1)-dimensional AKNS(-1) system and the (3+1)-dimensional sine-Gordon equation are implicitly given and expressed by tanh function and incomplete elliptic integral, respectively. These results may enhance our understanding of the complex physical phenomena described by the nonlinear system discussed in this paper.

Abstract:In this paper the numerical solution of the two-dimensional sine-Gordon equation is studied. Split local artificial boundary conditions are obtained by the operator splitting method. Then the original problem is reduced to an initial boundary value problem on a bounded computational domain, which can be solved by the finite difference method. Several numerical examples are provided to demonstrate the effectiveness and accuracy of the proposed method, and some interesting propagation and collision behaviors of the solitary wave solutions are observed.

Abstract:The (3+1)-dimensional double sine-Gordon equation plays a crucial role in various physical phenomena, including nonlinear wave propagation, field theory, and condensed matter physics. However, obtaining exact solutions to this equation faces significant challenges. In this article, we successfully employ a modified -expansion and improved -expansion methods to construct new analytical solutions to the double sine-Gordon equation. These solutions can be divided into four categories like trigonometric function solutions, hyperbolic function solutions, exponential solutions, and rational solutions. Our key findings include a rich spectrum of soliton solutions, encompassing bright, dark, singular, periodic, and mixed types, showcasing the (3+1)-dimensional double sine-Gordon equation ability to model diverse wave behaviors. We uncover previously unreported complex wave structures, revealing the potential for complex nonlinear interactions within the (3+1)-dimensional double sine-Gordon equation framework. We demonstrate the modified -expansion and improved -expansion methods effectiveness in handling higher-dimensional nonlinear partial differential equations, expanding their applicability in mathematical physics. These method offers enhanced flexibility and broader solution categories compared to conventional approaches.
