The Integration of Management Teams and its Synergy Effect in the Global M & A Strategy

Abstract:Global M & A(mergers and acquisitions),including foreign companies acquiring domestic companies or vice versa,will involve an integration of management teams between two companies.Beyond the integration of staff,the global M & A is in essence the integration of norms,rules,and processes of the two companies.An effective integration will bring about a synergy effect resulting in extra benefits,while an ineffective integration will come out with a negative effect.Both parties in the global M & A activities expect to have a positive rather than a negative effect.This paper analyzed the theory of global M & A integration and the case of Lenovo Group acquiring IBM PC business,and found that an effective integration of management teams is the key success factor for the global M & A strategy,and is also the foundation for avoiding post-M & A turmoil and boosting post-M & A sustainable growth which will help retain and capture new competitive advantage embedded in the global M & A strategy.
