Abstract:One of the main currently challenges in the production process faced by shipbuilders is how to release resources constrictions to achieve the balance of the production rhythm. Based on the Plant Simulation software, this paper uses the process reengineering techniques to simulate the ship section manufacturing process, analyzes the balance of the production rhythm, and optimizes this process. Then it can obtain the optimal distribution of production resources, and eliminate the production bottlenecks in order to achieve the optimal production rhythm.
Solution of Jobshop Scheduling Problems Based on Evolutionary Algorithms

Abstract:A new approach to the solution of jobshop scheduling problems(JSP) based on evolutionary algorithm was put forward. Based upon the mixed integer model of the JSP, the proposed approach considered the JSP as a mixed integer nonlinear programming (MINLP) problem. With genetic algorithm and evolution strategy,the procedures for the solution of MINLP problem were presented respectively. Constraints of MINLP problems were dealt with by using the penalty function method and Deb approach. Computer simulations for a numerical example show that the proposed approach for the JSP problem is simpler in coding, designing of genetic and evolutionary operators together with decoding. By utilizing this approach, much time can be saved in understanding the unsolved problems in detail. The proposed approach can also be applied to a much wider range of scheduling problems.
Optimization method of flexible job-shop scheduling based on multiobjective particle swarm optimization algorithm

Abstract:To solve flexible job-shop multiobjective scheduling problem, the optimization model was set up. Considering of the makespan, manufacturing cost and earliness/tardiness penalties, a crowding distance sorting based on multiobjective particle swarm optimization algorithm was proposed. With the elitism strategy, dominant individuals were preserved in evolution process. The shrink of the external population and update of the global best were achieved by the individuals' crowding distance sorting in descending order. A small ratio mutation was introduced to enhance the diversity of solutions and the global searching capacity of the algorithm. Finally, the feasibility and validity of the method was proved by the simulation results of a flexible job-shop multiobjective scheduling in a workshop.

Abstract:Evolutionary algorithms approach to solution of the jobshop scheduling problems (JSP) is studied. Different from the existing genetic algorithm approach to JSP, the approach proposed in this paper is based upon the mixed integer model of the JSP, and casts the JSP as a mixed integer linear or nonlinear programming (MINLP) problem. With genetic algorithm and evolution strategy, the procedures for solution of MINLP problems are presented respectively. Constraints of the MINLP problems are dealt with easily by using the penalty function method and the Deb approach. At the end of the paper, computer simulations for a numerical example are made, and the results show that the proposed approach is effective.

Abstract:The extremely competitive shipbuilding sector is going through a digital transformation in the context of Industry 4.0. The spatiotemporal problem has gained considerable attention during hull construction, particularly for blocks. There are fewer studies on intermediate products at lower levels, such as the dynamic spatiotemporal scheduling for hull parts under complex constraints in subassembly workshops. Therefore, this paper proposes a multi-queue two-level optimization method along with a dynamic spatiotemporal scheduling model based on the multi-directed acyclic graph (multi-DAG) and queueing theory. Firstly, a mathematical description of the complex constraints imposed by processing tasks and various resource types is provided. Then, a dynamic spatiotemporal scheduling model and an objective function are proposed to minimize the average time for parts in the system. At the sequencing level, different priority determination methods for queue events based on an improved genetic algorithm and the contribution ratio for release space strategy are proposed. At the service level, the allocation strategies for space and workers are constructed to improve utilization. Finally, several simulation experiments are conducted using the data gathered from the workshop. The proposed method is compared with the heuristic rules and combination rules using several queueing indicators and the space utilization vs. time graphs.

Abstract:In order to realize green manufacturing in the production process of semi-combined marine crankshaft structural parts, good job scheduling and reasonable workshop layout are the key. In traditional method, flexible job shop scheduling problem (FJSP) and the multi-row workshop layout problem (MRWLP) are regarded as separate tasks. However, the separate optimization method ignores the interaction between FJSP and MRWLP. Because the process sequencing of FJSP affects the layout results of processing machines, while the layout scheme of MRWLP affects the scheduling completion time through the transportation between processes. Therefore, it is very important to establish an integrated mathematical model for optimization of both layout and scheduling simultaneously to explore the common influence of the two resource constraints on scheduling results. At the same time, the transportation task is also a manufacturing process that cannot be ignored, which affects the completion time and energy consumption of the workshop, especially the heavy industrial manufacturing workshop with crane as transportation equipment. According to the established model, a five-segment coding including transportation information, layout information and processing information is designed, and two heuristic selection strategies are integrated into non-dominated sorting genetic algorithm II (NSGA-II) to optimize the iterative results twice. Finally, the effectiveness of the integrated mathematical model is verified by an example, which provides guidance for green manufacturing in the shipbuilding industry.

Simulation Optimization on Complex Job Shop Scheduling with Non-Identical Job Sizes.

Abstract:This paper addresses the complex job shop scheduling problem with the consideration of non-identical job sizes. By simultaneously considering practical constraints of sequence dependent setup times, incompatible job families and job dependent batch processing time, we formulate this problem into a simulation optimization problem based on the disjunctive graph representation. In order to find scheduling policies that minimise the expectation of mean weighted tardiness, we propose a genetic programming based hyper heuristic to generate efficient dispatching rules. And then, based on the nested partition framework together with the optimal computing budget allocation technique, a hybrid rule selection algorithm is proposed for searching machine group specified rule combinations. Numerical results show that the proposed algorithms outperform benchmark algorithms in both solution quality and robustness.

Abstract:Aiming at the flexible job-shop batch scheduling problem, with optimization objective of minimizing the weighted completion time of total orders, and the maximum workload of the machine tool, considering conditions of the materials, tools and fixtures replacement, a multi-objective flexible job-shop batch scheduling model is constructed. A discrete firefly algorithm is proposed, which redefines the location and distance of the fireflies with the production scheduling parameters such as machine tool allocation and process sequencing, improves the location update strategy, and achieves the solving of multi-objective flexible job-shop batch scheduling problem. Experiment on production scheduling of turbocharger housings was performed, and the feasibility and effectiveness of the algorithm was verified.

Abstract:The job shop scheduling problem (JSSP) is a kind of classical combined optimization. The JSSP may be described by network. The combined algorithm with simulated annealing algorithm and tabu search algorithm was designed to obtain sub-optimal solution of the JSSP. First, the initial solution (local optimal solution) was found by simulated annealing algorithm, then tabu search algorithm was used to seek optimal global solution. The determination of neighborhood structure was given. Through a number of computer simulation, the results have shown that the combined algorithm can increase efficiency of solving and ensure quality of the solutions.

Abstract:A simulation-based optimization framework is proposed in this paper to solve process industry scheduling problem under demand and yield uncertainties.The scheduling scheme consists of processing capacities and operation modes of product units as well as separator parameters.A scheduling simulation model with probability distribution of demand and yield has been established.The optimal scheduling orders are obtained through multi-population genetic algorithm based on this model.Robustness and effectiveness are demonstrated by simulation result of a real-world refinery.

Abstract:Flexible job shop schedule is very important in both fields of combinatorial optimization and production management. In this paper, a simulation model is presented to solve the multi-objective flexible job shop scheduling problem. The proposed model has been coded by Matlab which is a special mathematical computation language. After modeling the pending problem, the model is validated by five representative instances based on practical data. The results obtained from the computational study have shown that the proposed approach is a feasible and effective approach for the multi-objective flexible job shop scheduling problem.

According to resources constraints and optimization objective, several simulation models of the production scheduling problem are developed, and genetic algorithm is applied to the simulation outputs to optimize the production scheduling problem. Abstract:This paper proposes a new dynamic algorithm based on simulation approach and multi-objective optimization to solve the FJSP with transportation assignment. The objectives considered in scheduling jobs and transportation tasks in a flexible job shop manufacturing system include makespan, robot travel distance, time difference with due date and critical waiting time. The results obtained from the computational experiments have shown that the proposed approach is efficient and competitive.

Abstract:This study concerns the simulation of a shipbuilding workshop, and its optimization to improve its productivity. Usually, simulation is used to improve efficiency but this optimization is often done manually, particularly for shipbuilding workshop. This is due to the particularity of pieces to be manufactured: almost each of them is different and required thus particular operations. The automation is not so much present as, for example, in automotive industry. In spite of high CPU time for that kind of simulation, we will try to use optimization methods to improve productivity. Abstract:In this paper, an efficient hybrid genetic algorithm (GA) algorithm is proposed to solve the flexible job shop scheduling problem (FJSSP) problem with machine status constraint. According to the machine status in the actual production workshop, the machine available constraint is added to the scheduling. The mathematical model is designed in the paper for FJSSP with the machine available constraint. The GA algorithm is applied to produce initial solution and tabu search (TS) is used to promote local search ability. The operation-based representation method, crossover and mutation operation are utilized to increase the performance. The computational experiments are conducted to testify the efficiency of the proposed algorithm.

Abstract:The trend of reverse globalisation prompts manufacturing enterprises to adopt distributed structures with multiple factories for improving production efficiency, meeting customer requirements, and responding disturbance events. This study focuses on scheduling a distributed flexible job shop with random job processing time to achieve minimal makespan and minimal total tardiness. First, a stochastic programming model is established to formulate the concerned problems. Second, in accordance with the natures of two objectives and randomness, an evolutionary algorithm incorporating an evaluation method is designed. In it, population-based and external archive-based search processes are developed for searching candidate solutions, and the evaluation method integrates stochastic simulation and discrete event simulation to calculate objective values of acquired solutions. Finally, a mathematical optimisation solver, CPLEX, is employed to validate the developed model and optimisation approach. A set of cases is solved to verify the performance of the proposed method. The comparisons and discussions show the superiority of the proposed method for handling the problems under study.

Abstract:Most production scheduling problems, including standard flexible job shop scheduling problems, assume that machines are continuously available. However, in most cases, due to preventive maintenance activities, machines may not be available for a certain time. Meanwhile, in the entire workshop production process, the transportation process of workpieces cannot be ignored. Therefore, the impact of transportation on the production planning should be considered in the scheduling process. To consider both preventive maintenance and transportation processes in the flexible job shop scheduling problem, this paper proposes a flexible job shop scheduling problem considering preventive maintenance activities and transportation processes and establishes a multi-objective flexible job shop scheduling model optimizing the total energy consumption and total makespan. Furthermore, a multi-region division sampling strategy-based multi-objective optimization algorithm integrated with a genetic algorithm and a differential evolution algorithm (MDSS-MOGA-DE) is proposed to solve the model. In the proposed algorithm, a multi-region division sampling strategy and two evaluation functions are utilized to improve the diversity of solutions. In addition, this paper combines a genetic operation and a differential operation to further enhance the search ability of the algorithm. The validity of the algorithm is verified by a real case. The computational results reveal that the proposed model and algorithm obtain appropriate results and have the potential to be applied to other similar problems.

Abstract:This paper optimises a shipyard layout to minimise the material handling costs during ship construction with regard to the adjacency and alignment conditions of departments. Alignment is a significant factor in shipyard layout design because it potentially reduces the material handling costs by allowing aligned departments to be on a continuous production line, sharing resources. The optimisation process comprises two stages: topological and geometrical optimisations. First, the optimal topology of departments is determined by using a genetic algorithm. Second, a stochastic growth algorithm is used to allow the departments to gradually grow and have their own geometries which satisfy given requirements in area, shape, adjacency, and alignment. A case study is conducted to demonstrate the two-stage algorithm in shipyard layout design in which the effect of considering alignment constraints on shipyard layout design is presented.

Abstract:There is a lack of research on the flexible job shop scheduling problem (FJSP) considering limited fixture-pallet resources in multi-product mixed manufacturing workshops. However, field research in a leading engine manufacturer in China has revealed that fixture-pallet resources are a key factor limiting capacity breakthroughs although they play an auxiliary role in the production process. Thus, in this paper, we propose a methodology for the multi-resource constrained flexible job shop scheduling problem with fixture-pallet combinatorial optimisation. First, a mixed integer programming model with machine-fixture-pallet constraints is constructed aiming to minimize makespan. Then, a novel genetic algorithm integrated with feasibility correction strategy and self-learning variable neighbourhood search (VNS) is proposed to address the complicated scheduling problem, where the feasibility correction strategy is designed to solve potential conflict between machine selection and fixture selection chromosomes and self-learning VNS is executed to further improve the optimisation capability. Moreover, the effectiveness and efficiency of proposed algorithm are demonstrated by computational experiments with real data from cooperated engine manufacturing plant, which would provide convincing support for real production scheduling under complex scenarios.
