Abstract:In this talk I discuss CP violation in hyperon decays in Left-Right symmetric models. I show that the asymmetry in polarization in $\Lambda \to p\pi^-$ can be as large as $6\times 10^{-4}$ in these models, which is an order of magnitude larger than the Standard Model prediction.

Abstract:We consider CP violation due to left-right mixing in a class of Left-Right symmetric models and show that it leads to observable effects in hyperon decays. For S-wave, the contribution to CP violating asymmetry A of the polarization in hyperon and anti-hyperon decays is proportional to $\epsilon'/\epsilon$. While the tree level L-R operators contribution is constrained to be less than $ 10^{-5}$, the gluon penguin operator contribution can be as large as $10^{-4}$. For P-wave, the contribution is not directly related to $\epsilon'/\epsilon$. Its contribution to A can be larger and may reach $6\times 10^{-4}$ in $\Lambda \rightarrow p\pi^-$. This is much larger than the value expected for A in the Standard Model.

Abstract:An account is given of the experimental status of CP violation and of the phenomenology of hyperon non-leptonic decays. Updated information on the estimate of CP-violating observable in these decays is presented. An experimental programme is outlined, which aims to pursue the search for direct CP violation in hyperon-antihyperon decays by means of the reaction p-bar p {yields}{Lambda}-bar {Lambda}{yields} p-bar {pi}{sup+} p {pi}{sup-}. The experiment as well as analysis methods are described. Alternative approaches employing hyperons are also discussed. 54 refs., 1 tab., 13 figs.

Abstract:We update the estimate of CP violating observables in hyperon decays. We consider the effect of a heavy top quark, as well as recent bounds on the CKM angles. We present an estimate of the uncertainties associated with the evaluation of the hadronic matrix elements by comparing different models. We find that A(Λ-0) is likely to occur at the 10−5 level within the standard model, although it could reach 10−4.

Abstract:CP symmetry violation is one of the fundamental requirements for having more matter than antimatter in our universe. However, the observed CP violation is not enough to explain the matter dominance. Searching for the new CP violation in the hyperon sector is therefore attracting people's interests. In this article, we review the theoretical description of the spin one-half hyperon nonleptonic decay. In order to test the CP conservation, the asymmetry decay parameters might be compared between hyperon and antihyperon. The fixed-target experiments achieved the relevant measurements of the hyperon parameters but in the absence of the antihyperon results. The BESIII experiment with e(+)e(-) collision provided an entanglement environment to measure Sigma(+) and &Sigma(-) simultaneously. The important role of experimental inputs in CP violation evaluation is discussed in this paper, underlying the great potential of the future collider, which may allow us to reach the precision of the Standard Model predictions.

Abstract:We present a concise overview on $CP$ violation in hyperon decays, including past, present, and future efforts to search for it. We highlight in particular the most recent results of the BESIII experiment using a quantum-entangled pair of hyperon and antihyperon produced by a charmonium resonance formed in $e^+e^-$ annihilation. The subsequent nonleptonic decays of these hyperon pairs allow for the simultaneous determination of various parameters pertaining to $CP$ violation in the decays. We compare the reported data with the corresponding current predictions for $CP$ asymmetries within the standard model of particle physics. Moreover, we touch on how much these asymmetries might be enhanced by possible new physics beyond the standard model. We also comment briefly on the importance of the proposed super tau-charm factories in future quests for hyperon $CP$-violation.

Abstract:We study CP violation in a multi-Higgs doublet model based on a $S_3 \times Z_3$ horizontal symmetry. We consider two mechanisms for CP violation in this model: a) CP violation due to complex Yukawa couplings; and b) CP violation due to scalar-pseudoscalar mixings. We find that the predictions for $\epsilon'/\epsilon$, CP violation in B decays and the electric dipole moments of neutron and electron are different between these two mechanisms. These predictions are also dramatically different from the minimal Standard Model predictions.

Abstract:Non-leptonic two-body weak decays of baryons are an important tool to probe the combined charge-conjugation--parity symmetry (CP) violation. We explain why the decays of strange baryons provide complementary information to the decays of kaons. A model-independent parameterization of the non-leptonic decays of the $\Lambda$- and $\Xi$-baryons is reviewed, and the amplitudes are updated according to the latest experimental input. We demonstrate the potential of performing precision tests in strange baryon decays at the next generation electron-positron $J/\psi$ factories with luminosity of $10^{35}$ cm$^{-2}$s$^{-1}$. The copious production of spin-entangled hyperon-antihyperon pairs via the $J/\psi$ resonance allows for a direct comparison of the baryon and antibaryon decay properties. Using analytic approximations and numerical calculations, we study the quantitative impact of spin correlations and polarization in such CP tests. We show that by using a longitudinally-polarized electron beam, the statistical precision of the CP tests can be significantly improved compared to the experiments without polarized beams. Furthermore, we map out further directions for possible improvements, like analysis of incompletely reconstructed events or a combination of the isospin related processes. Altogether, these methods are promising for the observation of a statistically significant CP-violation signal with a strength corresponding to the standard model predictions. Our conclusions should encourage more detailed feasibility studies, including optimisation of the measurement methods and studies of systematic effects. Finally, our results call for an update of the theory predictions with increased precision.

Abstract:We study CP violation in fermion pair decays of Higgs boson. We identify some CP odd observables related to the tree level decay amplitude. We find that a few thousands Higgs boson decay events can already provide important information about CP violation. If the Higgs boson is produced, such an analysis could be carried out at the SSC, LHC and NLC.

Abstract:We study CP violation in fermion pair decays of neutral boson particles with spin 0 or 1. We study a new asymmetry to measure CP violation in eta, K(L) --> mu+mu- decays and discuss the possibility of measuring it experimentally. For the spin-1 particles case, we study CP violation in the decays of J/psi to SU(3) octet baryon pairs. We show that these decays can be used to put stringent constraints on the electric dipole moments of LAMBDA, SIGMA, and THETA.

Abstract:Since decays to four leptons is widely considered a promising way to search for the Higgs particle, we show how the same final state can also be used to search for signals of CP nonconservation. Energy asymmetries and triple correlations are related to parameters in the underlying CP-violating effective interaction at the H-0-W-W and H-0-Z-Z vertices. It is argued that the expected size of the effects is extremely small in the standard model, and it is shown that the result also seems small to be observable in an extension of the standard model with an extra Higgs doublet.

Abstract:We investigate a CP violating observable, the μ-polarization, in η → μ+μ− in several models with the standard gauge group. The CP violating parameters are constrained by the experimental upper bound on the neutron electric dipole moment. Among the models considered here, it was found that those with leptoquark scalars dominate the contributions to μ-polarization in η → μ+μ−. μ-polarization can be of order 10−3.

Abstract:We study CP violation in a multi-Higgs doublet model based on a $S_3 \times Z_3$ horizontal symmetry where CKM phase is not the principal source of CP violation. We consider two mechanisms for CP violation in this model: a) CP violation due to complex Yukawa couplings; and b) CP violation due to scalar-pseudoscalar Higgs boson mixings. Both mechanisms can explain the observed CP violation in the neutral Kaon system. $\epsilon'/\epsilon$ due to neutral Higgs boson exchange is small in both mechanisms, but charged Higgs boson con- tributions can be as large as $10^{-3}$ for a), and $10^{-4}$ for b). CP violation in the neutral B system is, however, quite different from the Minimal Standard Model. The neutron Electric Dipole Moment can be as large as the present ex- perimental bound, and can be used to constrain charged Higgs boson masses. The electron EDM is one order of magnitude below the experimental bound in case b) and smaller in case a).

Abstract:We calculate the new contribution to the direct CP-violation parameter ϵ′ in K→ππ decay in the minimal left–right symmetric model with the recently-obtained right-handed quark Cabibbo–Kobayashi–Maskawa mixing. We pay particular attention to the uncertainty in the hadronic matrix element of a leading four-quark operator O−LR. We find that it can be related to the standard model electromagnetic penguin operator O8 through SU(3)L×SU(3)R chiral symmetry. Using the lattice and large Nc calculations, we obtain a robust constraint on the minimal left–right symmetric scale MWR>5 TeV from the experimental data on ϵ′.
