Abstract:A coupled PDE method for image denoising is proposed based on the Perona-Malik model and the fourth order PDE. The experiments show it is able to remove noises while preserving edges well and avoiding the block effect which is easily seen in the images processed by the second order PDE.

Abstract:In this paper, we introduce a new method for image denoising based on a fourth-order partial differential equation (PDE) model and a mean curvature diffusion (MCD) model. The fourth-order PDE model can cause less blocky effect and preserve edges in image denoising. But it loses too much texture in the restored image. The mean curvature diffusion model can keep texture while quickly removing noise. So we introduce the mean curvature diffusion into the PDE-based noise removal algorithm. Finally, Numerical experiments are done by our proposed model. We also compared our method with the fourth-order PDE model and the mean curvature diffusion model. Numerical examples show that the proposed model can preserve fine structure and keep texture well while quickly removing image's noise.

Abstract:The method of Minimal Surfaces can remove the noise of certain image effectively and preserve its edges. However such methods, which are based on second-order nonlinear partial differential equations (PDEs), tend to cause the processed images to look blocky. Fourth-order PDEs, which replace the gradient operator with the Laplacian operator, are able to avoid blocky effects. However, the equation brought forward by You and Kaveh does not possess the capability of removing isolated black speckled noise. In this paper, a new fourth-order PDE, based on the combination of the method of Minimal Surfaces and the fourth-order PDE of You and Kaveh, is proposed and tested. The new method is capable of removing isolated black speckled noise as well as avoiding blocky effects.

Abstract:This paper proposes a novel method for noise reduction based on Perona-Malik model. Traditional Perona-Malik model computes the diffusion coefficient by using image gradient, while in this paper, we use the phase congruency. The phase congruency is an illumination and contrast invariant method for detecting features of interest in an image, such as edges and corners. In fact, it not only enhances the features of interest in images but also can compensate for noise. Compared to the classical P-M method, as well as the bilateral filtering and non-local means algorithm, the experiments on real natural images demonstrated that the proposed method is effective at removing noise with great edge preservation.

Abstract:While image noise removal methods based on the fourth order partial differential equations show their advantages in producing piecewise smooth results,they are sensitive to the high frequency components in the images and destroy image texture prominently.This paper proposes a texture preserving fourth order partial differential equations based image denoising model.At first,a cost function relying on second derivatives of image intensity function in the direction orthogonal to the gradient is proposed.Then,it proves the existence and uniqueness of this function,and the proposed fourth order partial differential equations are derived from it using gradient descent flow and Euler-Lagrange function in succession.At last,the method is tested on a broad range of real images and demonstrates good noise suppression without destruction of important edges and textures in the image.

Abstract:For the special different nature images, we could hardly find particularly desirable approach, and there always exist Gibbs-type artifacts in the results of most methods. A novel Partial Differential Equation (PDE) model is proposed based on image feature for images denoising. The PDE model is adaptive within each region according to the details of the image feature to adjust the size of the diffusion coefficient. So it can be disposed the high gradient noise at the same time better to retain the edge information. We also analyze the performance of the PDE model method. Numerical results show that our algorithm competes favorably with state of the-art TV projection methods to eliminate noise and reduce Gibbs-type artifacts.

Abstract:In this paper, we propose a local and contextual controlled (LCC) fourth order partial differential equation (PDE) method for noise removal. First, a region based fourth order PDE is proposed, which conductance coefficients are chosen adaptively in terms of the domain type. Thus, the proposed method can preserve the advantages of forth order PDE and avoid leaving isolated black and white speckles. Furthermore, the region based fourth order PDE and two discontinuity measures are incorporated into a LCC fourth order PDE, where the joint use of the two discontinuity measures leads to a complementary effect for edge preservation. The proposed LCC fourth order PDE is tested on two typical images, including texture image and natural scene image, which show the superiority of the proposed method.

Abstract:In this paper, a hybrid image denoising algorithm based on directional diffusion is proposed. Specifically, we developed a new noise-removal model by combining the modified isotropic diffusion model and the modified Perona-Malik (PM) model. The novel hybrid model can adapt the diffusion process along the tangential direction of edges in the original image via a new control function based on the patch similarity modulus. In addition, the patch similarity modulus is used as the new structure indicator for the modified Perona-Malik model. The feature of second-order directional derivative of edge's tangential direction allows the proposed model to reduce the aliasing and the noise around edge during edge preserving smoothing. The proposed method is thus able to efficiently preserve the edges, textures, thin lines, weak edges, and fine details, meanwhile preventing the staircase effects. Computer experiments on synthetic image and nature images demonstrate that the proposed model achieves a better performance than the conventional partial differential equations models and some recent advanced models.

Abstract:Partial differential equations(PDEs) have been justified as effective tools for image denoising.The second-order PDEs are effective for image noise removal but they can lead to staircase effects.These staircases can be falsely detected as edges in the successive image processing.The fourth-order PDE introduced by You and Kaveh can alleviate the staircase effect,but it is an isotropic filter and its edge and texture preserving ability is not satisfactory.In light of this,the convolutional virtual electric field(CONVEF) into the fourth-order PDE for images restoration is introduced.Since the CONVEF based fourth-order model possesses anisotropic properties over the image features,it leads to improvement on noise removal and edge and texture preserving over the original model.

Abstract:T he existence of noise can reduce the effectiveness of the image information ,so image noise reduction is particularly important .In this paper ,based on the respective characteristics of denoising method using curvature driven model and fourth order partial differential equation ,we propose a new hybrid de-noise model which combines the CDD and fourth order PDE via a weight function ,the method well retains the advantages of both methods .While it effectively remove the noise of the im-age ,it well retained texture details and contour information of the image .Its de-noising results have greatly improved compared with the classic filtering .
Mixed Denoising Method Based on Partial Differential Equation and Wiener Filtering

Abstract:This paper proposes a mixed image denoising method combining wavelet transform with Partial Differential Equation(PDE),the method is denoised by the windows improved Wiener filtering,and is processed by the PDE combined model.Based on the characteristics of the P-M equation,the directed diffusion equation and LLT high-order equation,two weight functions are used to build the PDE combined denoising model.Experimental result shows that the mixed denoising method not only can overcome the drawbacks of three PDE models and Wiener filtering,but also can improve image denoising capacity and edge protection,and it can obtain a better visual effect and enhance efficiency of the algorithm after denoising.

Abstract:A new 4th order PDE algorithm for image denoising is proposed by using Laplacian-sharpening operator instead of Laplacian operator.This algorithm not only lightens the blocky effects which are easily seen in images processed by a 2nd order PDE,but also saves some time and avoids unsmoothing phenomenon compare with other algorithms based on a 4th order PDE.

Abstract:In this paper, on the basis of the previous work of Perona and Malik and Catte, etc. , we propose the modified model of image denoising, do the model＇s numerical simulation. Abstract:Aiming at edge blurring, distortion of the reconstructed images in wavelet transform and low computation efficiency,ladder effect in the traditional 2nd order linear diffusion equation, the image denoising algorithm based on wavelet transform and partial differential equations is proposed,. And based on the improved semisoft threshold function, the modified model in combination of improved semisoft threshold and PM model is proposed,and again the modified model in fusion of wavelet soft-threshold , hard-threshold Birge-Massart strategy respectively with 4th order partial differential equations also proposed.The experimental results indicate that aiming at Gauss noise, salt and pepper noise, and these two mixed noise in face images, the proposed algorithm, with the advantages of both wavelet transform and partial differential equations ,could effectively distinguish noise from edge, remove the noise , better keep image details, and enhance the practical performance.

Abstract:Among various kinds of image denoising methods, the Perona–Malik model is a representative Partial Differential Equation based (PDE-based) algorithm which effectively removes the noise as well as having edge enhancement simultaneously through anisotropic diffusion controlled by the diffusion coefficient. However, the unstable behavior of the Perona–Malik model introduces staircasing artifacts in the processed images. To realize less diffusion in the texture region and to get more smooth in flat region while implementing image denoising, we propose an improved Perona–Malik model based on non-local means theory, which assumes that the image contains an extensive amount of self-similarity and uses the similarity between the region around the center pixel and the region outside the center pixel to give a more reasonable description of the image. The improved algorithm is applied on numerical simulation and practical images, and the quantitative analyzing results prove that the modified anisotropic diffusion model can preserve textures effectively while ruling out the noise, meanwhile, the staircasing effects are decreased obviously.

Abstract:Wavelet and Partial Differential Equation(PDE) are the main methods in removing image noise.Image noise is removed by making use of discrete wavelet threshold transform.The expression form of PDE based on wavelet threshold is obtained.It adapts the method of fractional steps wavelet shrinkage for the solution of PDE based on above approach.It can receive better effect of image denoising and attain the purpose of preserving edge and smoothing noise.Experimental results show that the new method can obtain better effect and higher SNR than wavelet method.

Abstract:A noise removal technique using partial differential equations (PDEs) is proposed. It combines a second-order filter with a fourth-order filter. The combined method takes the advantage of both filters since it can preserve edges and at the same time avoid the blocky effects in smooth regions. Abstract:Image denoising is a challenging task in the fields of image processing and computer vision. Inspired by the good performance of nonlinear fourth-order models in recovering smooth region, we proposed a fourth-order image denoising model. Using the fixed point theorem, we established the existence and uniqueness of the entropy solution. Based on the fast explicit diffusion scheme (FED), numerical experiments illustrate the effectiveness of the suggested method in image denoising. The results have been compared with three famous fourth-order models, You and Kaveh (YK) model, Lysaker, Lundervold and Tai (LLT) model and the more recent mean curvature (MC) model. The proposed model has the superiority in terms of removing noise while preserving image features.

Abstract:This paper presents a new diffusion coefficient which is based on second order derivative and local entropy information for image denoising. In the proposed model, a second order derivative term is introduced, which reduces the staircasing effect and preserves edge in a processed image. The local entropy information can preserve texture. The Perona–Malik model with a new diffusion coefficient improves the denoised effects, and prevents edges from being over-smoothed. Comparative experiments show that the proposed model obtains more satisfied results than the other two existing models.

Abstract:Based on the application of partial differential equation (PDE) to image processing, a novel method is presented for mine image denoising, which couples a secondorder and a fourth-order PDE model. The second-order model, such as total variation (TV) model preserves edges well, but easily generates staircase effect during denoising. The fourth-order model can avoid the staircase effect and simultaneously cause edge blurring. An edge detector called difference curvature is introduced to the new model, which makes the model couple the two models above and inherit their advantage. Compared experimental results distinctly demonstrate the superiority of the proposed model over the TV and the fourth-order model, in term of removing noise while preserving the edges and avoiding staircase effect. © 2013.
