Clinical Study of Fatty Livers in 37 Patients with Ovarian Cancer after Chemotherapy

Abstract:Objective To study the fatty livers in the patients with ovarian cancer after chemotherapy.Methods A total of 145 patients with ovarian cancer who received chemotherapy from Jan.2004 to Jan.2008 were involved in this study.ALT,AST,ALP,LDH,GGT,CHOL,TG,HDL,LDL and ultrasound examinations were performed before and after chemotherapy to explore the relationship between fatty livers and chemotherapy regimens and courses.Results About 21.38%(31/145)patients was diagnosed fatty liver after chemotherapy,of whom 29 patients were mild or moderate fatty livers and 2 cases were severe diseases.The incidence of fatty liver after 1,3,6 cycles and more than eight cycles of chemotherapy was 0,11.03%,18.62% and 21.38% respectively.There were 15 patients appearing abnormal liver function,and 28 cases had lipid abnormality.Patients' BMI before and after chemotherapy was 23.81±5.32 and 24.80±5.25,which had significant difference(P0.05).Two of 6 patients with mild fatty liver pre-chemotherapy became severe.During follow up of 6 months,1 of 2 patients with severe fatty livers became normal,14 of 29 patients with fatty livers became normal,and 9 of 15 cases with liver function abnormality became normal.Conclusion Fatty liver and hyperlipidemia may be caused and also be aggravated by chemotherapy in the patients with ovarian cancer.
