Abstract:PDZ domains are prevalent protein/protein interaction modules for specifically recognizing the extreme C-terminal tails of the proteins.The PDZ domain-containing scaffold proteins are capable of organizing supra-molecular signaling complexes to mediate signal transductions in cells.Recently,PDZ domains have been discovered to bind to PIP lipids directly,thus regulating the PIP lipid-mediated signaling pathways.In this review,on the basis of recent studies of the PDZ/lipid interactions,we describe the molecular basis of the PDZ/PIP lipid interactions and the PDZ domain-mediated regulation of the PIP lipid signaling.
