Abstract:Aimed at the effect of variable coefficients and the constant coefficients to the system, a quarter-car two degree freedom suspension vibration model is described, with the aid of matlab alternating senior programmable language, the algorithm is gained through function file, the simulation model of the road noise and the suspension system is obtained. Moreover, The one order standard sensitivity function is adopted, the actual model of one quarter-car two degree freedom suspension system is designed, and the standard sensitivity response of vehicle body velocity, body displacement and the tire displacement is analyzed, the sensitive degree of the change of the structure dynamic characteristics variation is studied. The results indicate that the method can improve the design efficiency and reduce the cost of the design.

Abstract:A finite element model with detailed anatomical structure of human cervical spine was established in this paper based on the CT scan data of the cervical vertebrae obtained from a 50th percentile Chinese male. The model was validated by the data from the head-neck drop test conducted by Nightingale et al in 1996. In the drop test simulation, the contact force between the head and impact surface, as well as head acceleration were chosen to gauge the accuracy of the model predictions against test results. The results show that the head - neck finite element model without muscle tissue has a consistent mechanics and dynamics with the body drop test. The model can be applied to the exploration of a more detailed neck injury model with muscle tissue and can also be directly applied to the study of injury mechanism of the cervical spine in the car crash accidents.
Dynamic Sensitivity Analysis of Complex Structure Based on FEM

Abstract:The new idea of dynamic sensitivity analyzing the complex structure with FEM was introduced. Experimental modal analyzing and FEM calculating were combined to identify the joint equivalent dynamic parameters. The virtual part were used to couple the parts of complex structure. Then, the dynamic finite element analysis model of complex structure using virtual part was built, dynamic sensitivity analysis and optimization design could go on. The dynamic sensitivity analysis of a block-cylinder head complex structure and a large scale frame were carried out with I-DEAS. It proved that the method is effective and practical in deal with dynamic optimization design of general complex structure.

Abstract:Based on regulation GTR9,geometric sizes of pedestrian headform impact were designed,and finite element model was established.The drop test and impact test have been made to the pedestrian headform with the FE model.Effect of some test parameters on simulation results has been carried out,the parameters which shall be controlled accurately during test were discussed.Simulation results were compared with headform impactor test data,which verified that the established headform impactor FE model used in simulation can satisfy regulation requirement.

Abstract:This paper presents a 1:25 multi-freedom aero-elastic model for a high lighting pole at the Zhoushan stadium. To validate the similarity characteristics of the model, a free vibration test was performed before the formal test. Beat phenomenon was found and eliminated by synthesis of vibration in the X and Y directions, and the damping ratio of the model was identified by the free decay method. The dynamic characteristics of the model were examined and compared with the real structure; the similarity results were favorable. From the test results, the major along-wind dynamic response was the first vibration component. The along-wind wind vibration coefficient was calculated by the China code and Eurocode. When the peak factor equaled 3.5, the coefficient calculated by the China code was close to the experimental result while Eurocode had a slight overestimation of the coefficient. The wind vibration coefficient during typhoon flow was analyzed, and a magnification factor was suggested in typhoon-prone areas. By analyzing the power spectrum of the dynamic cross-wind base shear force, it was found that a second-order vortex-excited resonance existed. The cross-wind response in the test was smaller than Eurocode estimation. The aerodynamic damping ratio was calculated by random decrement technique and the results showed that aerodynamic damping ratios were mostly positive at the design wind speed, which means that the wind-induced galloping phenomenon is predicted not to occur at design wind speeds.

Abstract:The basic principle of coordinate system registration method was introduced in order to evaluate the measurement accuracy of large‐scale metrology system in aircraft assembly .Then an explicit model was derived to mathematically describe the transformation parameter errors and the registration error .The model reveals the impacts of the layout of the enhanced reference system ( ERS ) points and the measurement errors of the ERS points of the laser tracker . T he uncertainty evaluation of the transformation parameter errors and the estimation of the registration error were fulfilled based on the derived model . Monte‐Carlo simulation was performed to simulate the coordinate system registration process .The proposed uncertainty evaluation method and the estimation method were validated .

Abstract:In this paper, a finite element model of human head was established based on CT scanning on a 40-year-old and 50 percentile Chinese male volunteer, and the model was verified with the experiment conducted by Verschueren and skull fracture was investigated during the collision. The frontal of head was impacted with different velocities during the impact tests. A break-deletion element process was represented to simulate the pathological phenomena of skull fracture.The results showed that the simulation results and experimental results were in a good consistency on both mechanics and pathology.
FEA on the impact test of aluminium alloy wheel

Abstract:In order to establish a reasonable finite element analysis(FEA) model for auto wheel impact test,one type of auto aluminum alloy wheel is studied.Using the I-DEAS software,both FEA method and test method are used in studying the wheel impact test.In FEA the model is constrained at the mounting surface and the five bolt holes,and a force is applied on the top surface 25mm wide when the wheel is placed in a 13 degree angle in the horizontal plane. The linear elastic material model is used in FEA.Static linear analysis is performed at the beginning of this study.It is slightly different from the actual test results.An invalidation trend is given by the FEA result.An actual picture of the wheel after impact test is taken.After the comparison between these two results the coincidence between FEA result and the actual test result is found clearly.Therefore,the boundary conditions applied to the FEA model are correct.The correct FEA model is established.This has set up the basis for the dynamic simulation of the wheel impact test.

Abstract:This paper summarizes the highly nonlinear problems existing in the structural analysis and design of weatherstrip seals.On this basis,material constitutive models that effectively simulate the material of weather strip seals,together with the development of basic material tests and supporting test equipment,are summed up.Rules to select appropriate material models and the impact of some key issues such as the Mullins and Friction Effect on material tests and simulation analysis are fully discussed and analyzed.Combined with large-scale nonlinear finite element software,this study examines the specific application of the existing CAE technique in evaluating the actual performance of weatherstrip seals.

Abstract:A pedestrian impact test rig is developed based on the EEVC/WG17 requirements of pedestrian protection.The working principle of the tester and the design of its functional modules are described.The headform and legform impact tests are performed,and its test capability is preliminarily evaluated in respects of energy storage and release,control accuracy and test repeatability.Test results show that the test rig meets the relevant requirements of EEVC and can be used to conduct further investigation and vehicle design for pedestrian protection.

Abstract:This article presents an uncertainty analysis method for the 16-term error model, and applies the methodology in determining the best calibration standard combinations and their associated parasitic parameters. This article proposes a sensitivity analysis method using the complex-valued matrix differentiation to tackle the complexity of the 16-term error network, and the uncertainty propagation is further derived by the properties of the covariance matrix. A novel methodology is additionally proposed for calibration standard selection by combining the uncertainty analysis method with a parasitic-parameter extraction approach. The newly proposed methodology jointly determines the best combinations of calibration standards and their corresponding parasitic parameters and enhances the calibration accuracy and reliability of the 16-term error model. The effectiveness of the technique is validated by on-wafer measurements.

Abstract:Spherical joints have attracted increasing interest in the engineering applications of machine tools, industrial robots, medical equipment, and so on. As one of the promising methods of detecting the micro-clearance in spherical joints, the measurement accuracy of a spherical capacitive sensor could be affected by imperfectness during the manufacturing and installation of the sensor. This work presents error analysis of a spherical capacitive sensor with a differential structure and explores the dependence of the differential capacitance on manufacturing and the installation imperfectness. Five error sources are examined: the shape of the ball and the capacitive plate, the axial and radial offset of the plate, and the inclined installation of the plate. The mathematical models for calculating the capacitance errors of the spherical capacitive sensor are deduced and validated through a simulation using Ansoft Maxwell. The results show that the measurement accuracy of the spherical capacitive sensor is significantly affected by the shape of plates and ball, the axial offset, and the inclined angle of the plate. In contrast, the effect of the radial offset of the plate is quite small.

Abstract:Mechanical deviations induced by working conditions are always ignored in assembly analysis due to the rigid body hypothesis of parts. This paper presents a study of the deviations resulting from the actual working conditions. Finite element analysis (FEA) is conducted to simulate the deviations occurring in assemblies, in which the point-cloud geometry representation of deformed parts is adopted to enable the calculation of small displacements by means of relative positioning. The simulated deviations are incorporated in manufacturing deviations to determine the functional requirements based on Jacobian-torsor model. The approach is finally illustrated by a practical example.
A Tolerance Analysis Method Based on Assembly Deformation Simulation with Stable Contact

Abstract:PurposeThe assembly simulation in tolerance analysis is one of the most important steps for the tolerance design of mechanical products. However, most assembly simulation methods are based on the rigid body assumption, and those assembly simulation methods considering deformation have a poor efficiency. This paper aims to propose a novel efficient and precise tolerance analysis method based on stable contact to improve the efficiency and reliability of assembly deformation simulation.Design/methodology/approachThe proposed method comprehensively considers the initial rigid assembly state, the assembly deformation and the stability examination of assembly simulation to improve the reliability of tolerance analysis results. The assembly deformation of mating surfaces was first calculated based on the boundary element method with optimal initial assembly state, then the stability of assembly simulation results was assessed by the density-based spatial clustering of applications with noise algorithm to improve the reliability of tolerance analysis. Finally, combining the small displacement torsor theory, the tolerance scheme was statistically analyzed based on sufficient samples.FindingsA case study of a guide rail model demonstrated the efficiency and effectiveness of the proposed method.Research limitations/implicationsThe present study only considered the form error when generating the skin model shape, and the waviness and the roughness of the matching surface were not considered.Originality/valueTo the best of the authors' knowledge, the proposed method is original in the assembly simulation considering stable contact, which can effectively ensure the reliability of the assembly simulation while taking into account the computational efficiency.
Influence Analysis of Machining and Installation Errors on the Radial Stiffness of a Non-Pneumatic Mechanical Elastic Wheel

Abstract:Machining and installation errors are unavoidable in mechanical structures. However, the effect of errors on radial stiffness of the mechanical elastic wheel (ME-Wheel) is not considered in previous studies. To this end, the interval mathematical model and interval finite element model of the ME-Wheel were both established and compared with bench test results. The intercomparison of the influence of the machining and installation errors on the ME-Wheel radial stiffness revealed good consistency among the interval mathematical analysis, interval finite element simulation, and bench test results. Within the interval range of the ME-Wheel machining and installation errors, parametric analysis of the combined elastic rings was performed at different initial radial rigidity values. The results showed that the initial radial stiffness of the flexible tire body significantly influenced the ME-Wheel radial stiffness, and the inverse relationship between the hinge unit length or suspension hub and the radial stiffness was nonlinear. The radial stiffness of the ME-Wheel is predicted by using the interval algorithm for the first time, and the regularity of the radial stiffness between the error and the load on the ME-Wheel is studied, which will lay the foundation for the exact study of the ME-Wheel dynamic characteristics in the future.
Developing a simplified finite element model of a car seat with occupant for predicting vibration transmissibility in the vertical direction

Abstract:The transmissibility of seat depends on the dynamics of both the seat and the human body, and shows how the amplification and attenuation of vibration varies with the frequency of vibration. A systematic methodology was developed for finite element (FE) modelling of the dynamic interaction between a seat and the human body and predicting the transmissibility of a seat. A seat model was developed to improve computational efficiency before models of the seat pan and backrest were calibrated separately using load-deflection and dynamic stiffness measurements, joined to form the complete seat model, and integrated with the model of a manikin for further calibration. The calibrated seat model was combined with a human body model to predict the transmissibility of the seat. By combining a calibrated seat model with a calibrated human body model, and defining appropriate contacts between the two models, the vibration transmissibility with a seat-occupant system can be predicted. Practitioner summary: FE models are capable of reflecting complex dynamic characteristics of a seat–body system. A methodology for using FE methods to model a seat–body system to predict seat transmissibility has been demonstrated. The method can be developed to explore how seating dynamics interact with human biodynamics.
Structure Optimization of Wheel Force Transducer Based on Natural Frequency and Comprehensive Sensitivity

Abstract:The current research of wheel force transducer (WFT) mainly focuses on test signal processing and decoupling methods based on signal itself, while the WFT structure optimization research related to decreasing the mass and increase the natural frequency and comprehensive sensitivity is not enough. In order to improve the WFT test accuracy, a structure optimization method based on natural frequency and comprehensive sensitivity indicators is put forward. The WFT with 8-beam elastic body is used for the finite element modeling (FEM), in which the following variations are taken into consideration: the connection type of elastic body with modified rim, the number of connection holes, and the respects of strain beam including the shape, the cross sectional area and the length, etc.. The test results shows that the natural frequency of the connecting block type is increased by 65.5% compared with the connecting seat type of elastic body & modified rim, and the main channel sensitivity is improved as well. The results show that the connecting block type will achieve the best comprehensive performance when the number of connecting holes between the elastic body and the modified rim is 20. And the thinner and longer strain beam with smaller cross section area is preferable within the scope of elastic body mechanical strength. This research proposes a novel structure optimization method for WFT which contributes to improve the measurement performance of WFT.
Sensitivity analysis and optimization for occupant safety in automotive frontal crash test

Abstract:Nowadays, safety is a competitive advantage for automotive products and therefore receives considerable attention by automotive research centers. In this paper, a frontal crash test of sedan product of an under development platform is simulated and occupant head injuries are investigated based on ECE R94 regulation. First, an initial evaluation of the crash behavior of the sedan car is carried out and then airbag, dummy and seat belt are added to the model to study occupant head injuries under crash test. In this study, peak head acceleration and head injury criteria (HIC36) are considered as two output parameters based on ECE R94 regulation. Considering these two output parameters, sensitivity analysis and optimization are performed using Taguchi and analysis of variance (ANOVA) methods. In this way, airbag distance to dummy, trigger time, initial inflator gas temperature and tank pressure are considered as input parameters. Obtained results show that in all computer experiments designed by Taguchi responses values satisfy the requirements of ECE R94. Two different out-of-position conditions are considered by reducing the distance between dummy and airbag relative to the optimum design obtained by Taguchi. The worst case of design and its response values are also predicted using Taguchi. Finally, re-evaluating finite element analyses are performed based on the optimum and the worst cases. The results of these simulations show the validity of approach of this paper.

Abstract:Whole vehicle crash safety is widely studied while single steering system safety is neglected. A finite element model for steering wheel systems was established, and verified through quasi-static tests. The human body module built earlier by some of the authors was revised and calibrated according to GB 11557-1998. The steering wheel safety was evaluated through simulation, with the relationship analyzed between the respond accelerations of the human body module and different external conditions. The results show that the human body module acceleration obviously increases with increasing impact speed with the largest influenced rate of 56% and increases with rising vertical position with the largest influenced rate of 40%, and that the effects of the steering wheel installation angle and the human body module side slip angle can not be ignored.

Abstract:A design method for deformable knee joint parts(DKJP)in the legform was developed based on regulation requirement to protect pedestrian's leg during car-pedestrian impact.The method established and analyzed a dynamics model of DKJP,provided structure type of knee parts,further set up calibration of knee size and materials and validated test process for the DKJP.By calibration and validation of test of DKJP,this method could fulfill the technical requirements of EEVC WG10.The design principle and analysis method of DKJP could also be taken as a reference in pedestrian legform parts design based other technical regulations.
