Abstract:Ecological stoichiometry of leaf is an effective method to study plant growth and utilization efficiency to nitrogen as well as phosphorus. The study of nutrient elements such as C, N, P, K in the leaf of typical plants and the characteristics of stoichiometric ratio among various elements by the ecological stoichiometry is beneficial as theoretical foundation for an appropriate plant selection and diagnose of limiting nutrient elements of adaptive plants to vegetation restoration and succession in degraded karst region. The ecological stoichiometry in different leaves from 24 species of evergreen and deciduous tree as well as shrubs in karst regions of central Guizhou were stuied, the results indicated that, (1) C, N, P, K in the plant leaves ranged from 448.42 to 568.54 with an average of (515.64±36.36) mg·g-1 for C, 8.71 to 25.94 with an average of (17.16±3.84) mg·g-1for N, 0.77 to 2.52 with an average of (1.34±0.40) mg·g-1 for P, and 4.44 to 19.7 with an average of (12.25±3.91) mg·g-1 for K. (2) Study on the threshold of N/P on the growth of plants by Koerselman and Meulema, When N/P> 16, the plant growth is mainly limited by the P element, when the N/P < 14, subject to the N elements, when common limit 14 <N/P < 16, then the plants in N, P. The change range of the N/P value of the average is 13.13 < 14 which implied that plant growth was primary limited by N. (3) Different life forms of plant leaf had different utilization of nutrients the orderd of C, N, K absorption and utilization were: tree species > shrub, evergreen > deciduous tree species; broad-leaved species>conifers, while the P absorption and utilization is no difference among these species. (4) C/P, C/K, C/N, P/K, and N/K is an important physiological indicators of the growth of plants, the C/P and C/N ratio showed that evergreen species > deciduous trees species; but C/K and P/K was conifer > broad-leaved species; the elements ratio between the tree and shrub species are not significant. (5) the correlation of C, N, P, and K from leaves showed that N and P, and K and P were positively correlated, C and K were negatively correlated, no significant relation was found between C and N, C and P, and K and N in disagreement.
