Abstract:Objective The present study was to evaluate the efficacy of intracoronary transfer of bone marrow mononuclear stem cells(BMSC)in patients with heart failure after myocardial infarction on echocardiography. Methods Forty-three patients with anterior myocardial infarction were treated by standard percutaneous coronary intervention(PCI)and medical therapy.Fourteen patients in BMSC group were also transplanted BMSCs through coronary injection.Echocardiograms were available before enrollment, and at 6 and 12 months' follow-up.Results Global LVEF was increased 5% in BMSC group,7% in control group at 12 months' follow-up,but the changes had no statistic differences between the two groups.Compared with the control group, the magnitude of LVM,LVMI and LVWMI were higher in BMSC group before enrollment 196.70±11.34 g vs 163.80±7.14 g,P=0.02,104.8±5.48 vs 88.17±3.73,P=0.021 5 and 1.75±0.09 vs 1.50±0.06,P=0.02,respectively.After the stem cell therapy, there were no differences between the two groups at 6 and 12-month follow-up.No statistic changes were found in E/A,Em and E/Em.Conclusions Intracoronary transplantation of BMSCs may increase the systolic function and it might be beneficial for ventricular remodeling. It has no effect on diastolic function, but can only improve heart function in some degree.
