Abstract:Ontology as a formalized description of shared conceptual system,can solve the problem of massive knowledge usage in knowledge retrieval.This paper suggests an ontology-based related knowledge visualized retrieval model based on full study of current research.From a practical point of view,the model focuses on the relationship between knowledge sources and user experience of knowledge retrieval,improves traditional ontology construction and maintenance method,and suggests a new knowledge retrieval method.The model can largely improve efficiency and quality of knowledge retrieval by users.

Abstract:The present retrieval systems using classic key-based full text search technique is not able to promise the precision. In this paper, we present an Ontology-based and Concept-oriented Information Retrieval Model by combining ontolgoy techniques and classic vector space model, which utilizes well-defined logic reasoning structure in the specified domain ontology. We propose methods of multi-level retrieval and concept annotation to improve results quality and implement to some extent semantic understanding of provided queries.

Abstract:With the extensive use of computer aided systems in product design, manufacture and analysis, a mass of documents are produced. These documents provide engineering information in integrated environment of enterprise for engineers, but maintained by different systems in different forms. Current information retrieval approaches usually lack semantic supports for different kinds of documents, which leads to insufficiency of content representation and misunderstanding of query intention. To effectively search engineering information in various documents, and consider semantic information in engineering domain, an ontology-based information retrieval framework is presented. As the center of framework, ontologies are established to support document analysis and query processing through information representation in semantic level, and complete the mapping between user queries and document resources. The framework provides a unified platform for multi-source engineering information retrieval(EIR) from various documents in integrated environment.

Abstract:With the enrichment of network information and the improvement of the user's needs, people are not satisfied with retrieving in the same kind of language. So Cross Language Information Retrieval (CLIR) receives people's more and more concerns. One of kernel problem of CLIR is how to overcome communication obstacles between different languages. This paper proposes a novel semantic based CLIR model Onto CLIR. The model, basing on the technologies of traditional information retrieval, uses Ontology to describe the relevant domain knowledge in different kinds of languages. Thus the problems of semantic loss and distortion when translating between query language and retrieval language can be solved. In this way we can ensure that the model will follow user's query intention and get the expected results. We have done experiments to validate our approach. The experiments are designed to retrieve sport news in Chinese from Sina website with query in English. The experiment results demonstrate that when applying our ontology based CLIR approach the increases of the retrieval recall and precision both have reached more than 10 percent, which shows that our approach is effective in improving retrieval performance.

Abstract:It will greatly improve the accuracy of information retrieval to combine semantic with traditional information retrieval, in which, the ontology plays an important role. Based on the ontology, the theory, architecture, and pivotal technology of information retrieval are studied. To validate the study, the prototype of ontology-based semantic information retrieval system is designed and im- plemented. The results show that ontology-based retrieval of information can improve the precision and recall rates greatly.

Abstract:Analyzing the problem that the traditional information retrieval system has some weak point, we put forward a ontology-based personalized information retrieval system design ideas and system model, and described the components of the model, introduced how to realize information retrieval with domain knowledge of ontology and user ontology profile. Finally, performance evaluation of the model shows the great improvement of the ratio of recall and precision as expected.

Abstract:In the current age of information explosion, people need an effective way to help them find useful information in the midst of the vast data "ocean". To address this issue, ontology-related techniques have been increasingly applied to information retrieval in recent years, expected to help computers understand the intentions of human being and thus provide better services. It is clear that, with the help of ontology, the peiformances of information retrieval systems can be improved. However, it is then necessary to propose a method indicating how to measure the improvement, and to demonstrate its benefit to the industry. This paper proposes a method to evaluate retrieval systems based on ontology vocabulary, which is different from traditional evaluation methods in its purposes and applications. Experimental results have also been provided to show the effectiveness of the proposed evaluation measure.

Abstract:An information retrieval system not only occupies an important position in the network information platform, but also plays an important role in information acquisition, query processing, and wireless sensor networks. It is a procedure to help researchers extract documents from data sets as document retrieval tools. The classic keyword-based information retrieval models neglect the semantic information which is not able to represent the user’s needs. Therefore, how to efficiently acquire personalized information that users need is of concern. The ontology-based systems lack an expert list to obtain accurate index term frequency. In this paper, a domain ontology model with document processing and document retrieval is proposed, and the feasibility and superiority of the domain ontology model are proved by the method of experiment.

Abstract:To enable the automatic identification of the relations between terms in semantic retrieval,ontology structure and inference methods are studied.A six-element based ontological structure is proposed for semantic retrieval.Description logic is adoped as an expression tool to semantically describe the atomic term,complex terms,instances,instances descriptions,attribute assignments and axioms.Then,the new structure is evaluated by the Gruber's rules including explicitness,objectivity,consistency,extensibility,minimal encoding bias and minimal ontological commitment.Based on the new structure,this paper proposes two types of reasoning(terms-oriented and instances-oriented) for the application of semantic retrieval,as well as the conversion mechanisms and determining algorithm.Finally,this paper puts forward four kinds of rules for information retrieval,and analyzes the applications of this new structure in semantic retrieval.
A Semantics-based Information Retrieval Model

Abstract:In this paper, I propose a semantics-based IR model, which uses triplet (concept-relation- concept) instead of keywords to index documents. It uses the sense instead of the string of a term to index document, which not only makes the representation more accuracy, but also well solves the synonym problem. More importantly, this model avoids the frequently occurred situation in keyword- based IR model that two keywords co-occur in a document but they do not have any syntactic or semantic relation at all. Besides, the model well supports the integration with domain ontology. Thus, it is reasonable to expect higher performance on the proposed semantics-based IR model. I present the models and the methods for components of indexing, searching and matching in detail, which documents the technical feasibility. A case study is performed showing the performance improvement of the new model in comparison with keyword-based IR model.

Abstract:In this paper,an ontology-based Internet search model is designed. This model is proposed in the background of the Internet's mass,changeable resources.On the one hand,its semantic inference solves the problems,such as the low recall,which appears in the search; on the other hand,it makes good use of ontology resources to do query excitation that provides more user-friendly search and advances the efficiency of the ontological inference. This model is validated in the case of the stock domain ontology,and the results prove that the model has more flexible and effective semantic search characteristics for the complex-structured and type-rich ever-changing resources.

Abstract:Virtual enterprise is based on the premise that work should be done where it can be done most optimally. In virtual enterprises, geographical boundaries merge seamlessly. It enables organisations to act in a way of flexibility and ability to adapt to rapid changes on the fly. However, different par-ties in a virtual enterprise Must understand each other before they go further details in business. Ontologies are such kinds of ideal baselines to assist parties to communicate. One of the essential research issues with ontology is how to deal with changes during their evolving cycle. Therefore, ontology refinement is a crucial component in ontology evolution. This paper presents a taxonomy structure focusing on the is-a relations. In particular, the concept of closeness measurement is introduced based on the "distance" estimation. An extended cluster analysis process is provided. According to the algorithm presented, a new concept is generated according to its attributes. Additionally, the refinement mechanisms for primitive operations are proposed. Unlike some other ontology refinement mechanisms which leave ontology consistency checking to human users after modification, our method emphasises the importance of consistency checking by applying description logics which is demonstrated based on the proposed ontology.
Relation-Based document retrieval for biomedical IR

Abstract:In this paper, we explore the use of term relations in information retrieval for precision-focused biomedical literature search. A relation is defined as a pair of two terms which are semantically and syntactically related to each other. Unlike the traditional “bag-of-word” model for documents, our model represents a document by a set of sense-disambiguated terms and their binary relations. Since document level co-occurrence of two terms, in many cases, does not mean this document addresses their relationships, the direct use of relation may improve the precision of very specific search, e.g. searching documents that mention genes regulated by Smad4. For this purpose, we develop a generic ontology-based approach to extract terms and their relations, and present a betweenness centrality based approach to rank retrieved documents. A prototyped IR system supporting relation-based search is then built for Medline abstract search. We use this novel IR system to improve the retrieval result of all official runs in TREC-2004 Genomics Track. The experiment shows promising performance of relation-based IR. The average P@100 (the precision of top 100 documents) for 50 topics is significantly raised from 26.37 %( the P@100 of the best run is 42.10%) to 53.69% while the MAP (mean average precision) is kept at an above-average level of 26.59%. The experiment also shows the expressiveness of relations for the representation of information needs, especially in the area of biomedical literature full of various biological relations.
