Abstract:Taking the Shaoxing Plain as a case, two kinds of typical farming systems, vegetable (Brassica campestris L.) and rice (Orgza sativa L.) production systems, were selected to study the flows and mass balance of heavy metals in both systems through one-year field monitoring. The concentrations of heavy metals in input materials, agricultural products and drainage water in the farming systems varied with investigated samples and fields. The concentrations of heavy metals in organic manures and city waste were higher than those in fertilizers. The concentrations of heavy metals in different chemical fertilizers decreased in the sequence of phosphate and compound fertilizers > potassium fertilizer > nitrogen fertilizer. Input of heavy metals in both systems decreased in the sequence of organic manure application (60.40~99.36%) > atmospheric deposition (0.46~39.26%) > chemical fertilizer application (0.17~1.45%) > irrigation (0.0016~1.62%). Outputs of Pb, Cd, Zn, and Hg in agricultural products were higher than surface drainage water for both systems. The total accumulation amount and input intensity of the metals decreased in the order of Zn>Cu>Pb>Cd>Hg. Annual inputs and accumulations of heavy metals in the vegetable production system were significantly higher than agricultural rice production system.
