Abstract:At first according to several typical definitions this paper concludes the characteristics of the module, based on which the descriptive model of the module of mechanical product and the concept of the module family are proposed, and then the configurative model of the module family of the mechanical product is discussed, so is the modular design of mechanical products based on the module family. Finally, three methods of the modular design of mechanical products are summarized.

Abstract:：Product modularization is one of the key technologies to realize mass customization, and it is also the foundation of industry 4.0, which can effectively support intelligent manufacturing.The traditional method of product modularization relies on experienced designers and takes a lot of time.And with the increasing number of customized products, the product changes faster and faster, this traditional method is more and more difficult to adapt for the development needs of the current situation.To solve these problems, some intelligent methods in product modularization are proposed, including: product name ontology establishment, product module partition optimization, module generalization and standardization, product main structure establishment etc.By using new generation of artificial intelligence technologies such as swarm intelligence, big data analysis and man-machine coordination, a large number of product module data, user order data and designers' behavior data of using product module are analyzed.By mining the similarity and relevance information such as product name relationship and module relationship hidden in the data, product name ontology, product module division, product common module, module main model and product main structure are determined.As a result, rapid large-scale product modularization is achieved, and the cost and time of product modularization are reduced.Key words：product modularity；modular design；intelligent manufacturing；intelligent modular design；a new generation of artificial intelligence

Abstract:In order to reduce time and cost on service robot development,modular classification on structure was given out with the concept of modular design.Detailed exposition on the contents of transmission layout,transmission realization,body stability and modular structural design of robot was carried out.The results of the assembly and experiment on a sample robot indicate that the development cycle of the service robot based on modular design method is shortened,and its performance satisfies the requirement of the design.

Abstract:There was a trend of modularization in service industry because of market competition during the developing process of service industry. The formation of modular organization in services has unique economic factors by the particularity of the service product. The paper analyzed service modular organization by economics perspective. Research shows that the structural of services modular organization was herringbone style which is different from traditional grapelike structure. The new features would make the modular organization member having strong sequentiality, closed relationships, replaced difficult and helm-enterprises being certainty in service industry, which would have important influence on the operation of services modular organization. Modularity has been promoted from pure empirical method to theoretical level as an efficient method to solve complex problems([1-2]). Modularity applies more and more in enterprise management theory and industrial organization theory which can play an important guiding part in promoting enterprise development and competitiveness of industrial chain([3-5]). Currently, there appears similar modular organization form in rapidly evolving services sector([6-8]). The paper will analyze and interpret from the angle of economics with this modular organization form as the research object.

Abstract:The car manufacturers can achieve scale merit only by large-scale production to reduce the cost as much as possible. However, a large-scale production usually generates similar design, same manufacture and similar products. Moreover, the customers have increasing individuation demands since both the rich customers and ordinary customers desire to gain individuation products. The modularization can eliminate the conflict between customers and car manufacturers, thus satisfying not only large-scale production but also individuation customization. The automotive modularization design must follow the design principle. The division of sub-module and deepening of modular levels have significant impact on automotive modularization adaptability. To adopt the modularization method for automotive design, the OEMs needn’t know design methods of all components except that they have to follow modularization design principle.

Abstract:In the view of the mass customization several manufacturing systems including the modular production system are compared in this paper. The characteristics, design method and application foreground of the modular production system are analysed. The research results showed that the modular production system with higher productivity and better flexibility, lower investment and higher benefit is much suitable to the Chinese situation.

Abstract:Nowadays global auto industries are going considerable changes in their production lines, which lead to increased competition and shorter product life cycles. Through producing variety products with higher quality and less cost could ensures more customers satisfaction. All automotive industries especially, car manufacturers are required to increase their market segment with corporate profit to ensure cost related objectives and success over competitors. It is therefore, essential for auto firms to reconsider their product development methodology in order to fulfill the objectives. The focus of this paper is to investigate the pros and cons of the concept of modularity that can be applied in auto industries in order to improve the product development processes. Modularity is gaining increasing importance in manufacturing firms recently; especially in auto industries. Modular product structures ensure real improvements and provide considerable benefits such as; reduce time to market, increase product variants, improve products quality, reduce Bill-Of-Material code etc. for the business firms. However, the concept of modularity has some limitations too. In this paper, a general overview of modularity, its application and prospects in auto industries along with its limitations are also discussed.

Abstract:Applying complex network to product modularization field,a module disassembling method of products was proposed.A coding method of dimensions of product was proposed.A method of how to construct dimension correlative relation network was presented,and a network of dimension correlative relation based on main model and main structure of product was constructed.A method of how to calculate the modularization coefficient of product was proposed,and an evaluation method of modularization grade of product was obtained.As an example,all methods were applied to gear-box product,and the methods were verified.

Abstract:Modular products can present many effectiveness scenarios in its product life cycle. Ideally, these scenarios can be achieved simultaneously. However, due to the diverse objectives of different phases, different module forms are required, and accordingly, conflicts may occur. Traditional modular design techniques have been motivated towards delivering variety, but with little incentive for effectiveness of modules per se. To reduce the conflicts, and to maximize the effectiveness of modules throughout product life cycle as much as possible, this paper put forward an effectiveness-driven modular design method which takes all effectiveness scenarios into consideration and balances the granularity and composition of modules among all possible forms during the clustering process. As the basis of effectiveness-driven modular design, a product descriptive model composed of components, interaction attributes, and liaison structure is proposed. Then, to cluster components according to different effectiveness scenarios at different phases, a quantitative split method for liaison structure is proposed. Furthermore, to maximize the effectiveness of the modules, three aggregation rules are put forward. A case study of wheel loader modular design is reported. Results and analyses reveal that the effectiveness-driven modular design excels in supporting modular design for life cycle.

Abstract:The concept of modularity can be applied not only to complex product system design, but also to business system interpretation and design.However, the amount of literature on modular organization is much less than that on product modularity. Based upon a case study on Haier’s reengineered business-process system after the “market-chain” reform, this paper examines the course of its process decomposition to form a prototype of modular organization, and further analyzes the evolution of the three key factors in the design rules, which make the independent modules interact with others to form a complex system. The study shows that a system will gain strategic flexibility when more business units in service supplying and product manufacturing are treated as modules of the firm. Meanwhile, a system will become more complex when the number and variety of modules increase, which in turn induces the evolution in the process of the modular organization’s decomposition and integration.
