Abstract:Objective To exploit the function of high performance human centrifuge for push-pull effect (PPE) simulation. Methods Taking relevant literature for reference, the parameters of push-pull maneuver(PPM) acceleration profiles were as following: Gmin was set at -1 Gz for 5 s duration, Gmax ranged from +2.5 Gz to 5.0 Gz (with 0.25 Gz increment) for 10 s duration. With these parameters, PPM acceleration profiles were edited and generated with profile editor in centrifuge control system, and were tested without subject in gondola.Twelve fighter aircraft pilots and 6 volunteers served as subjects. Their relaxed +Gz tolerances were obtained under exposures to pre-programmed acceleration profiles with and without antecedent -1 Gz for 5 s. Results +1 Gx and +0.5 Gy were generated together with -Gz which could be tolerated by human. Statistically significant decrement of relaxed +Gz tolerance was uniformly experienced by all subjects after -1 Gz for 5 s exposure. The volunteer group’s average decrease of relaxed +Gz tolerance was (0.87±0.13)G (P<0.01).The pilot group’s average decrease of relaxed +Gz tolerance was (0.95±0.25)G(P<0.01).One volunteer subject and one pilot subject experienced G-induced loss of consciousness (G-LOC) in "pull" phase during PPM exposure. Conclusion High performance centrifuge can simulate PPE on the ground, which lays the foundation for future PPE research.
