Abstract:Facing the increasing phenomena and research of consumption in reality,this paper introduced the traditional studying on consumption both of the mind-set and methods.Then,the trends of changing key issues of consumption space were generalized:①wider topics than that of before;②besides the traditional consumption space,more non-representative,new and modern spaces were included;③pay more attention to subjectivities and socialities of consumption;④studying in multiple space and scales,and following trajectories of consumption or commodity;⑤Extension of the consumption conception.And,the major contribution of the geographers on consumption research of the west to the social science were concluded:By taking the advantage of the traditional methods on places and space,inheriting the theory and method from sociology fields critically,Geographers contribute to social science as following:①open out the uneven relationship among the consumption spaces and its meaning;② highlight the fractured,different,and changing characteristics of the consumption,consumers and consumption spaces,point out the abuse if studying by classification of the consumers,and interrogate the work on historical transforma-tion and such chronologies;③study the relationship between the subjects and space by method focusing the process of embodiment and emplacement,and discover the social and political meaning of the existing of diverse consumption space;④Following the Marxism linkage between the consumption and production across spaces,point out the limitation of the class view,which neglects the many different aspects of consumers;⑤based on the different modes of connec tion,such as Commodity chain,System of Provision,Commodity circuits and Actor network,with different implication on standpoints of power,which strongly effect the social practice,discourses,especial the moral factors were stressed.
