Abstract:Extant literatures have explored the content and dimensions of intrapreneurial competency, but few of them have examined its application under Chinese background. By using a sample of 220 employees from 95 Chinese science and technology SMEs, this paper filled this void. Exploratory factor analysis indicates that the construct consists of seven dimensions: new business venturing, innovativeness, self-renewal, proactiveness, organization learning, network harmony, social intercourse. However, subsequent correlation and regression analysis demonstrates only new business venturing, innovativeness, self-renewal, proactiveness are related to performance. The implications and future research directions were discussed at the end of the paper.

Abstract:When firms start intrapreneurship by merger or acquisition, the level and pattern of human resource integration becomes a critical issue. However, extant literature has paid scant attentions to this issue. Drawing on the previous researches on M&A intrapreneurship, the present article collected primary data of the level and pattern of human resource integration in M&A intrapreneurship by means of in-depth interviews and used content analysis method to structurally analyze the data. The results showed that enterprises engaging in M&A intrapreneurship generally choose a high or intermediate level of HR integration. Specifically, enterprises at high level of HR integration tend to absorb employees from the acquired directly or recruit afresh employees, while enterprises at intermediate level of HR integration are inclined to adopt an agent-type of integration pattern.

Abstract:Leadership models have been studied in the academia from such perspectives as leaders’characteristics,individual behavior,and environment.This paper applies the findings of recent research abroad to China,focusing on the leadership models of female Chinese entrepreneurs.The study finds that female Chinese entrepreneurs use five leadership models,i.e.people-oriented leadership,innovational leadership,transformational leadership,harmonious leadership and transactional leadership.

A Study on the Influence Mechanism of Entrepreneurial Passion on New Venture Performance

Abstract:Entrepreneurial passion is one of the most obvious emotion phenomenon during entrepreneurial process. It has been a hot topic recently in entrepreneurship that whether entrepreneurial passion can promote entrepreneur-ial success. Based on upper echelon theory, we construct a model to explore how entrepreneurs' entrepreneurial passion affect new venture performance, and also explore opportunity capture's mediating role in the relationship between entrepreneurial passion and new venture performance. What's more, we examine the moderating role of en-trepreneurs' human capital and social capital. 110 samples in China are used to test the hypothesis, and multi-re-gression is used to analyze the data. The results show that entrepreneurs' entrepreneurial passion is positively relat-ed to new venture performance; Opportunity capture can fully mediate the relationship between entrepreneurial pas-sion and new venture performance; Entrepreneurs' previous industry experience negatively moderates the relation-ship between entrepreneurial passion and opportunity capture, and entrepreneurs' social capital positively moderates the above relationship.

Abstract:This research systematically synthesizes findings from mainstream authoritative journals regarding intrapreneurial capability, and redefines the concept and dimensions of intrapreneurial capability from a process perspective, but also develops a theoretical framework for the operational mechanism of internal entrepreneurial capability, following the analytical approach of "resource support—generation process—operational results". Empirical exploration is carried out by selecting typical cases. Findings indicate that intrapreneurial capability serves as the original driving force for achieving rapid growth in internal entrepreneurship. The generation of intrapreneurial capability undergoes a process of evolution from a single dimension to multiple dimensions, and the operational mechanism of intrapreneurial capability involves both main and auxiliary lines working in conjunction. This mechanism continuously promotes rapid iterative growth within enterprises. The contributions of this study are as follows: It redefines the concept of intrapreneurial capability from a process perspective, introducing three elements the concept encompasses—internal entrepreneurial context, comprehensive competence, and innovative output. Unlike previous academic considerations that focused on a single dimension of intrapreneurial capability, the multidimensional classification proposed in this study aids in comprehensively understanding the generation and innovation output processes of intrapreneurial capability. It also constructs a framework for the operational mechanism of intrapreneurial capability for the first time, which can comprehensively address the antecedents, outcomes, and interactions among different dimensions of internal entrepreneurial capability. Longitudinal case analysis provides reliable practical support for validating the conceptual connotations and operational mechanism framework proposed in this study. This study is beneficial for both domestic and international internal entrepreneurial enterprises, especially for startups to understand internal entrepreneurial capability from a holistic perspective, facilitating a swift transition from single-dimensional to multidimensional capability development and transformation, and providing a significant reference value for creating sustainable, internal, entrepreneurial performance.

Abstract:More and more researchers are focusing on the study of INVs,which is an emerging field of intersection of international business and entrepreneurship. But research on factors leading to the formation of INVs is limited to firms from developed countries. This paper conducted an exploratory,multiple-case study of INVs in Zhejiang,China. We find that motivators in the literature cannot be applied to our cases for variation in environment and industry type. We think the major drivers to the formation of INVs are the needs of survival,former experiences and local networks of entrepreneurs,degree of internationalization of the industry,and domestic market and policy.

Abstract:Based on 16 in-depth case studies this paper argues that the internationalisation behaviour of indigenous Chinese private-owned firms can only be partially explained by the Uppsala model and the theory of international new ventures. Instead, the so-called “bounded entrepreneurship” may be the key influence on the unique internationalisation patterns and competitive positions of these firms. Managerial and policy implications and limitations of the study are discussed.

Abstract:The current business context is more and more characterized by innovation capability as a key factor to boost firm's competiveness. Chinese firms are devoting its actions to develop science and technology to innovate their success. Inspired by synergetics and portfolio innovation, we propose that innovation synergy is an important means to reconfigure competencies and reduce the resource deficiency in order to exploit competitive advantage and success. System dynamics is an insightful approach to the problem structuring to investigate and illuminate the synergy effectiveness of innovation. We establish a SD model of a new venture in China to explore the synergy effect from the interaction of different innovation elements. Results show that as technology market, culture, and process innovation input increase, firm could fully exploit the benefits of innovation synergy and favor its growth and success.

Abstract:Over the past decade, although people have attach much attention to the innovative activities in firms, the executives often view the innovation process as a static, linear one, and often limit their strategic consideration on technology innovation in an isolated and separated way. As a matter of fact, the innovation process is a dynamic, non-linear and systematic process, which makes the traditional innovation management too simple and inappropriate in a long term view. By reviewing these works and investigation results of some leading firms in China, this paper advances a new paradigm for innovation management, i.e., portfolio innovation, to integrate technological, organizational and institutional factors from a strategic and systematic view.

Who Wants to Be an Intrapreneur? Relations between Employees' Entrepreneurial, Professional, and Leadership Career Motivations and Intrapreneurial Motivation in Organizations

Abstract:This paper reports an empirical study conducted to examine the relationship between employees' Entrepreneurial, Professional, and Leadership (EPL) career motivations and their intrapreneurial motivation. Using data collected from 425 working adults in the research/innovation and healthcare settings, we develop a self-report measure of employee intrapreneurial motivation. We also adapt an existing self-report measure of E, P, and L career motivations (previously developed and used with university students) for use with working adult organizational employees. Confirmatory factor analysis indicate that E, P, and L motivations and intrapreneurial motivation can be measured independently and reliably, while regression analyses show that the employees' E, P, and L motivations all contribute to explaining variance in their intrapreneurial motivation. Individuals with high E, P, and L motivational profiles are also found to have the highest intrapreneurial motivation scores, while those low on E, P, and L motivations have the least intrapreneurial motivation. Our findings suggest that the potential for intrapreneurship is not unique to only entrepreneurial employees. Instead, one can find intrapreneurs among employees with strong leadership and professional motivations as well. We discuss the findings in the context of generating more research to address the challenges of talent management in the 21st century knowledge economies where there is greater career mobility and boundarylessness in the workforce.

Abstract:Purpose Employee entrepreneurship has recently become an emerging area of investigation. However, due to the fragmentation of the turnover and entrepreneurship literature, no coherent theoretical framework has been developed to provide an adequate description of the employee entrepreneurial process. The purpose of this paper is to gain a deeper understanding of why and how an employee in an established organization progresses toward starting a new venture by exploring the key decision-making processes during the initial stages of employee entrepreneurship. Design/methodology/approach This study addresses the following research questions: What are the key decision-making processes during the initial stages of employee entrepreneurship? How are these decisions made, and how do they interact? This study employed a multiple case study approach, which enabled the authors to gain valuable insight into these "what" and "how" questions. The data consist of 28 in-depth employee entrepreneurship cases. Findings Based on an in-depth study of 28 cases, this study constructs a comprehensive model of the dynamic and interactive decision-making processes that lead to employee entrepreneurship. In particular, the findings reveal that rather than being a linear staged activity, employee entrepreneurship is an inherently iterative process that involves a set of interrelated subdecision-making processes related to turnover, team entrepreneurship and partner recruitment that entail multiple iterations and feedback loops based on an individual's cognitive judgment. Originality/value By illustrating and clarifying the importance of the effects of different initial motivations and the attributes of the network in the course of the employee entrepreneurship decision-making process, this study integrates the turnover and entrepreneurship literature and makes significant contributions to the current literature on employee entrepreneurship. Moreover, this study complements research investigating entrepreneurial team formation by providing a detailed understanding of how the lead entrepreneur and the prospective partner make mutual choices during the entrepreneurial team formation process.

Abstract:Based on Vallerand's dualistic model of passion, this study theorizes and empirically examines the temporal dynamics of two types of entrepreneurial passion in female entrepreneurs, harmonious entrepreneurial passion (HmEP) and obsessive entrepreneurial passion (ObEP), and examines the mechanisms by which entrepreneurial effort0 and fear of failure influence the temporal dynamics of entrepreneurial passion. Using data collected from a three-wave, lagged survey of female entrepreneurs, we employed Mplus to build a latent growth model for entrepreneurial passion and built a cross-lag model of the relationship between entrepreneurial passion, entrepreneurial effort, and fear of failure. We found that female entrepreneurs' HmEP and ObEP present different temporal dynamics. Furthermore, the temporal dynamics of HmEP are achieved through changes in entrepreneurial effort, whereas the temporal dynamics of ObEP are achieved through changes in current entrepreneurial effort and fear of failure in the next stage. Therefore, due to traditional gender stereotypes and varying motivations to engage in entrepreneurship, the two entrepreneurial passions have different dynamic evolution processes. Our results underscore the importance of effort and fear of failure in stimulating the dynamics of female entrepreneurial passion.
