Abstract:In a digital terrestrial broadcasting environment, since the channel characteristic may be severely distorted due to multipath interference, there is a need for an equalizer to counteract the interference. The equalizer algorithm has to meet two performance requirements: fast convergence capability and low noise enhancement. This paper proposes a simple, fast and efficient channel estimate algorithm used for the equalizer. Simulation results prove that an equalizer with the proposed algorithm can combat multipath of 0 dB magnitude and low noise enhancement. The proposed algorithm has low hardware complexity, and has a prospective application in VSB receivers in digital television terrestrial broadcasting (DTTB).

Simulation results prove that the proposed algorithm can combat with multi-path interference of 0dB magnitude without degradation caused by Additive White Guassian Noise (AWGN). Abstract:This paper proposes a new channel estimation algorithm based on Kalman filter and FFT in 2D-pilot-symbol-aided Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing(OFDM)mobile communication system.As a multi-carrier transmission system,the channel estimation for OFDM is supposed to fulfill channel estimation in both time and frequency domain.In this new algorithm,a scalar Kalman filter is used to predict the channel impulse response(cir)in the time domain,and then FFT interpolation is performed in the frequency domain to get the whole picture of the channel information.The performance of this new algorithm is close to that of the Wiener filter-based algorithm,but this new algorithm is much easier to implement and much more suitable to be used in real-time transmission system.

Abstract:Single carrier frequency domain equalization（SC-FDE）is widely recognized as an very promising technique for its lower peak-to-average power ratio, but it also needs more accurate channel estimation method. A low complexity two-dimensional MMSE channel estimation algorithm based on time-frequency domain separation feature of channel was proposed in order to improve estimation performance and predigest the complexity. The two-dimensional MMSE estimation can be simplified as two one-dimensional MMSE and the SVD algorithm was used to reduce the complexity of one-dimensional estimation. The UW as the cyclic prefix could reduce the overhead of system. Noise variance was also estimated at the UW. The simulation results show that the proposed algorithm has better performance than the conventional LS algorithm and MMSE algorithm. The complexity of the proposed algorithm was also lower than the conventional one-dimensional MMSE method.

Abstract:A channel estimation algorithm for Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing(OFDM) acoustic communication system is proposed.The algorithm is based on discrete Fourier transform(DFT).The algorithm is computational efficient.Theoretical analysis,computer simulation,and a sea trial have been finished.The system achieved a 2.8 kbit/s effective data rate at distances up to 2 km,which proved the algorithm can be used for middle/short range acoustic communication in shallow sea.

Abstract:In this paper, we analyze the bit error ratio (BER) of fast frequency hopping (FFH) system with binary phase shift keying (BPSK) in high-mobility wireless channels. By taking into account partial band noise jamming and channel estimation errors as Gaussian noise, both of maximal-ratio combining (MRC) and equal-gain combining (EGC) schemes are considered, and exact analytical BER expressions for MRC and EGC schemes are obtained. Especially, a closed-form BER expression for the MRC scheme is also presented in high signal-to-noise ratio region. Analytical and simulation results demonstrate that, the FFH/BPSK schemes suffer from performance degradation in the presence of channel estimation errors. The worst case jamming factor is shown to be inversely proportional to the signal to jamming ratio. With properly designed frequency hopping schemes and channel estimation schemes, the performance improvement is also observed as compared with the traditional noncoherent FFH/BFSK system.

Abstract:Symbol rate is an important parameter in digital communication. In the area of non-cooperative communication, the precision of symbol rate estimation is essential to the success of subsequent signal processes such as demodulation. This paper proposes an approach for estimation of symbol rate for M-ary FSK signals. In this approach, an M-ary FSK signal is decomposed into M single tones, and the symbol rate is estimated by extracting the spectral line corresponding to the symbol rate in the spectrum of the summation of each single tone envelope signal. The implementation of the methodology does not require any apriori information. Computer simulations and analysis show that the approach provides high estimation accuracy and still keeps a good performance even at low input SNR.

Abstract:Channel estimation is a virtual component to ensure the performance in the orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM). Smoothing filter is often used to suppress noise to improve the estimation performance. However, the conventional smoothing filtering methods have paid little attention on the virtual subcarriers, which is required in practical system but will introduce interference. Therefore, in this paper, we proposed a universal channel estimation algorithm in which the discrete Fourier transform (DFT) smoothing filtering is used when the virtual subcarriers is considered. What is more, the proposed method is applicable to the OFDM system with either block-type or comb-type pilot, and it can be easily extended to multiple input multiple output (MIMO) system. The proposed method employs windowing, extraction and adaptive filter modules one or more based on conventional DFT-based channel estimation for different pilot patterns. The simulation results show that the proposed method has better performance than the conventional DFT-based channel estimation under the same complexity.

Abstract:A method of iterative channel estimation is proposed for orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) sys- tem using superimposed training sequence with iterative receiver.The training sequence is exploited to get an initial channel estimate such that the iterative decoding process can be started.After each decoding iteration,the updated log likelihood ratio (LLR) of a posteriori probabilities on the coded bits are used to estimate the transmitted data symbols,which are fed back and used to improve channel estimates.Theoretical analysis of the mean square error (MSE) of the channel estimates is presented.In frequency selective fading channel,computer simulations of MSE performance of the channel estimation method and bit error rate (BER) performance of the system under different conditions are given,which demonstrate the efficiency and validity of the proposed method.

Abstract:In the algorithm for estimation of frequency of ultra-wideband LFM signal based on multi-channel and sub-sampling,even tiny error of the remainder can lead to huge error of the frequency.Based on the traditional one,a new algorithm,which precisely estimates the parameters of LFM signal down to-6 dB by re-estimating the wrong-estimated frequency is presented in this paper.Simulation shows the validity of the algorithm.

Abstract:Channel estimation is very important in wireless communication system. On discussing the signal model of variable spread spectrum gain multirate DS-CDMA system, this paper proposed a multirate subspace-based blind channel estimation algorithm. To overcome the high-complexity shortage of this algorithm, a modified approach is devised that offers tradeoff between performance and complexity. Finally performance analysis for multirate subspace-based blind algorithm and its modified algorithm are conducted. Simulation results proved the efficiency of the proposed algorithms.

Abstract:A low-complexity Turbo iterative estimator for HF channel is proposed. The algorithm combines conventional channel estimator with Turbo equalization, which improves the estimation performance from decoding information. Computer simulations show that the performance of the proposed algorithm has a considerable improvement over that of the LMS algorithm without significantly raising its computational complexity and is efficient with Turbo equalization structure.

Abstract:Single carrier frequency domain equalization(SC-FDE) block is affected by Doppler frequency offset in fast fading environment,which destroys the orthogonality in frequency domain and results in interference and error floor effect in the system.An interference analysis in both time and frequency domain was provided to mitigate the effects of channel variations and a new channel estimation scheme for SC-FDE system was proposed.The scheme adopted unique word(UW),interpolation and noise-suppression technique to estimate the time varying channel parameters.Theoretical analysis and simulation results show that the scheme has low computational complexity and significantly enhances the performance of broadband data communication in multi-path fast fading environment.

Abstract:This paper proposes a subspace-based blind channel estimation method using virtual carriers for STBC-OFDM systems with two transmit and two receive antennas. The proposed method can be applied to STBC-OFDM systems with CP or no CP. No CP can achieve lower systems complexity, and potentially lead to higher channel utilization. A few CPs significantly improve the accuracy of the channel estimation. Simulations show that the proposed method obtains accurate channel estimation and fast convergence.

Abstract:In single frequency network (SFN), there exist some special long delay spread channels as well as conventional multipath channels. For pilot-aided orthogonal frequency division multiplex (OFDM) systems, channel estimation is usually accomplished by interpolation with pilots. However, few pilot sub-carriers exist within the coherent bandwidth of the long delay spread channels in SFN. In this case, conventional frequency domain interpolation methods cannot work properly. In a narrowband channel, this paper indicates that both the real and the imaginary parts of channel frequency response can be accurately approximated as a sine-wave with DC offset. For many practical pilot-aided OFDM systems, the bandwidth of the narrowband channel mentioned before is comparable with the interval between several adjacent pilot sub-carriers. Then this paper proposes a sine-wave based frequency domain interpolation method for the channel estimation of pilot-aided OFDM systems in SFN. As simulation results show, the proposed method performs well in the long delay spread channel, whereas the mismatched Wiener interpolation filter (WIF) estimates channel response inaccurately. Moreover, the proposed method gives accurate channel estimation in conventional multipath channels, especially for the systems which adopt high order modulations.

Abstract:In orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) systems, a proper channel estimation algorithm can better improve the accuracy of information received at the receiver. Aiming at the problem that the traditional discrete fourier transform (DFT) channel estimation algorithm can not effectively suppress the internal noise of the cyclic prefix (CP), we propose an improved DFT channel estimation algorithm. This algorithm eliminates the internal noise by setting a new threshold inside the cyclic prefix (CP), and improves the accuracy of channel estimation. The simulation results show that the proposed algorithm is superior to the LS algorithm as well as the traditional DFT algorithm. It has a lower computation complexity, which can further improve the system performance and reduce the system bit error rate(BER).

Abstract:In this paper, we propose a windowed DFT based pilot-symbol-aided channel estimation method for Orthogonal frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM) systems. This method can reduce the aliasing error of the direct DFT based channel estimation method in the multipath fading channels that have non-sample-spaced path time delays. Furthermore, we compare the proposed channel estimator with the more complex MMSE channel estimator. The performance of the proposed method is close to the MMSE channel estimator.

Abstract:A novel time-frequency domain two-dimensional MMSE channel estimation (2D-MMSE) algorithm based on separation property of mobile wireless channels is proposed in this paper in order to provide the current channel state knowledge and improve the spectral efficiency in Single Carrier Frequency Domain Equalization (SC-FDE) systems over frequency-selective channels. We use the Unique Word (UW) to be the cyclic prefix and the pilot just like IEEE802.16. The UW is not need to delete in receiver, so the overhead of system is low. The 2D-MMSE estimation is simplified as an MMSE interpolation in the frequency domain cascaded by an MMSE filter in the time domain. The SVD method is adopt to reduce the complexity and keep the estimation accuracy. We also make the noise variance estimation by UW. Finally, the simulation results show that the proposed algorithm has better performance than the LS and MMSE algorithms, and the complexity of our method is lower than traditional one-dimensional MMSE.
