Abstract:We prove that For a function f(x(1), x(2)) defined on R-2, the graph of del f is a minimal surface if and only if f is harmonic or a quadratic polynomial. Using this result we prove the following classical result of Jogens: if f satisfies the Monge-Ampere equation f(x1x1)f(x2x2) - f(x1x2)(2) = 1, then f must be a quadratic polynomial.

Abstract:Let Vn+1 be an (n + 1)-dimensional real vector space and (F) over tilde = (alpha) over tilde phi(s) s = (beta) over tilde/(alpha) over tilde, be all (alpha, beta)-metric, where (alpha) over tilde is an Euclidean metric and (beta) over tilde is a one form. Minimal surfaces with respect to the Busemann-Hausdorff measure and the Holmes-Thompson measure are called BH-minimal and HT-minimal surfaces, respectively. We give a Bernstein type theorem for minimal graphs in (Vn+1, (F) over tilde) with n <= 7. Let (F) over tilde (b) = (alpha) over tilde phi(s), s = (beta) over tilde/(alpha) over tilde, be a Minkowski metric with b := parallel to(beta) over tilde parallel to(alpha) over tilde. We use a PDE to characterize the BH-minimal and HT-minimal graph over any hyperplane containing the origin in (Vn+1, (F) over tilde (b)). Then we prove that this PDE is an elliptic equation of mean curvature type when b is an element of [0, is an element of) for sonic constant is an element of > 0 and give a Bernstein type theorem for BH-minimal surface in (V-3, (F) over tilde (b)). BH-minimal cones with an isolated singularity at the origin are also given.

Abstract:We prove a Bernstein type theorem for ancient solutions to the mean curvature flow in higher codimension. Abstract:In this paper, we prove the following version of the famous Bernstein's theorem: Let $X\subset \mathbb R^{n+k}$ be a closed and connected set with Hausdorff dimension $n$. Assume that $X$ satisfies the monotonicity formula at $p\in X$. Then, the following statements are equivalent: (1) $X$ is an affine linear subspace; (2) $X$ is a definable set that is Lipschitz regular at infinity and its geometric tangent cone at infinity, $C(X,\infty)$, is a linear subspace; (3) $X$ is a definable set, blow-spherical regular at infinity and $C(X,\infty)$ is a linear subspace; (4) $X$ is a definable set that is Lipschitz normally embedded at infinity and $C(X,\infty)$ is a linear subspace; (5) the density of $X$ at infinity is 1. Consequently, we prove the following generalization of Bernstein's theorem: Let $X\subset \mathbb R^{n+1}$ be a closed and connected set with Hausdorff dimension $n$. Assume that $X$ satisfies the monotonicity formula at $p\in X$ and there are compact sets $K\subset \mathbb{R}^n$ and $\tilde K\subset \mathbb{R}^{n+1}$ such that $X\setminus \tilde K$ is a minimal hypersurface that is the graph of a $C^2$-smooth function $u\colon \mathbb{R}^{n}\setminus K\to \mathbb{R}$. Assume that $u$ has bounded derivative whenever $n>7$. Then $X$ is a hyperplane. Several other results are also presented. For example, we generalize the o-minimal Chow's theorem, we prove that any entire complex analytic set that is bi-Lipschitz homeomorphic to a definable set in an o-minimal structure must be an algebraic set. We also obtain that Yau's Bernstein Problem, which says that an oriented stable complete minimal hypersurface in $\mathbb{R}^{n+1}$ with $n\leq 6$ must be a hyperplane, holds true whether the hypersurface is a definable set in an o-minimal structure.

Abstract:Let M be an n-dimensional smooth oriented complete embedded minimal hypersurface in Rn+1 with Euclidean volume growth. We show that if the image under the Gauss map of M avoids some neighborhood of a half-equator, then M must be an affine hyperplane.

Abstract:We show that if $(X,d,m)$ is an RCD(K,N) space and $u \in W^{1,1}_{loc}(X)$ is a solution of the minimal surface equation, then $u$ is harmonic on its graph (which has a natural metric measure space structure). If K=0 this allows to obtain an Harnack inequality for $u$, which in turn implies the Bernstein property, meaning that any positive solution to the minimal surface equation must be constant. As an application, we obtain oscillation estimates and a Bernstein Theorem for minimal graphs in products $M \times \mathbb{R}$, where $M$ is a smooth manifold (possibly weighted and with boundary) with non-negative Ricci curvature

Abstract:Let $f\in W^{3,1}_{\mathrm{loc}}(\Omega)$ be a function defined on a connected open subset $\Omega\subseteq\mathbb R^2$. We will show that its graph is contained in a quadratic surface if and only if $f$ is a weak solution to a certain system of \nth{3} order partial differential equations unless the Hessian determinant of $f$ is non-positive on the whole $\Omega$. Moreover, we will prove that the system is in some sense the simplest possible in a wide class of differential equations, which will lead to the classification of all polynomial partial differential equations satisfied by parametrizations of generic quadratic surfaces. Although we will mainly use the tools of linear and commutative algebra, the theorem itself is also somehow related to holomorphic functions.

Abstract:Given two univalent harmonic mappings $f_1$ and $f_2$ on $\mathbb{D}$, which lift to minimal surfaces via the Weierstrass-Enneper representation theorem, we give necessary and sufficient conditions for $f_3=(1-s)f_1+sf_2$ to lift to a minimal surface for $s\in[0,1]$. We then construct such mappings from Enneper's surface to Scherk's singularly periodic surface, Sckerk's doubly periodic surface to the catenoid, and the 4-Enneper surface to the 4-noid.

Minimisers of Helfrich Functional for Surfaces of Revolution

Abstract:In this paper we investigate the existence and the properties for the minimisers of a special Helfrich functional for surfaces of revolution with Dirichlet boundary value conditions. Removing the even restriction for the admissible functions in [5], we prove that the minimiser is even and smooth, the minimal increases as the boundary value increases, and the minimiser is no less than the boundary value which answers an open question in [5] partly. We also obtain the existence and regularity for (general) Helfrich functional when the boundary value is large.

Abstract:We prove several Liouville theorems for F -harmonic maps from some complete Riemannian manifolds by assuming some conditions on the Hessian of the distance function, the degrees of F ( t ) and the asymptotic behavior of the maps at infinity. In particular, the results can be applied to F -harmonic maps from some pinched manifolds, and can deduce a Bernstein type result for an entire minimal graph.

Abstract:This paper continues the line of research where one shows a Bernsteintype theorem, namely, that a complete minimal submanifold of a Euclidean space has to be affine linear, by proving that its Gauss map is constant. This Gauss map is a harmonic map into some Grassmann manifold. Therefore, we need geometric conditions on the target of the Gauss map which imply that, being harmonic, it has to be constant. For this purpose, we identify a region W 1/3 in a Grassmann manifoldG(n,m,) not covered by a usualmatrix coordinate chart, with the following important property. For a complete n-submanifold M of Rn+m with n >= 3, and m >= 2, with parallel mean curvature whose image under the Gauss map is contained in a compact subset K subset of W 1/3 subset of G(n,m), we can construct strongly subharmonic functions on M and derive a priori estimates for the harmonic Gauss map, to eventually show that it is constant. While we do not know yet how close our region is to being optimal in this respect, it is substantially larger than what could be achieved previously with other methods. Consequently, this enables us to obtain substantially stronger Bernstein-type theorems in higher codimension than previously known. We also provide some new explicit computations for the example of Lawson and Osserman [18].

Abstract:Combining the tools of geometric analysis with properties of Jordan angles and angle space distributions, we derive a spherical and a Euclidean Bernstein theorem for minimal submanifolds of arbitrary dimension and codimension, under the condition that the Gauss image is contained in some geometrically defined closed region of a Grassmannian manifold. The proof depends on the subharmoncity of an auxiliary function, the Codazzi equations and geometric measure theory.

Abstract:We prove that an anisotropic minimal graph over a half-space with flat boundary must itself be flat. This generalizes a result of Edelen-Wang to the anisotropic case. The proof uses only the maximum principle and ideas from fully nonlinear PDE theory in lieu of a monotonicity formula.

Abstract:The purpose of this paper is twofold. The first aim is based on Riesz--Thorin's interpolation theorem, we prove new Hausdorff--Young type inequalities for the Quadratic Fourier transforms in (Ann. Funct. Anal. 2014;5(1):10--23) and linear canonical transforms in (Mediterr. J. Math. 2018;15,13), which were introduced by Castro et al. The second aim is to investigate the boundedness of the oscillatory integral operator with polynomial phases, which is also presented in the last section of the article.

Abstract:Under suitable conditions on the range of the Gauss map of a complete submanifold of Euclidean space with parallel mean curvature, we construct a strongly subharmonic function and derive a-priori estimates for the harmonic Gauss map. The required conditions here are more general than in previous work and they therefore enable us to improve substantially previous results for the Lawson–Osseman problem concerning the regularity of minimal submanifolds in higher codimension and to derive Bernstein type results.

Abstract:A classical result of Fekete gives necessary conditions on a compact set in the complex plane so that it contains infinitely many sets of conjugate algebraic integers. We prove an effective version of Fekete's theorem in terms of a height function. As an application, we give a lower bound on the growth of the leading coefficient of certain polynomial sequences, generalizing a result by Schur. Lastly, we give an upper bound on minimal asymptotics of height over sequences of algebraic numbers.

The Mittag-Leffler theorem for proper minimal surfaces and directed meromorphic curves

Abstract:We establish a Mittag-Leffler-type theorem with approximation and interpolation for meromorphic curves $M\to \mathbb{C}^n$ ($n\geq 3$) directed by Oka cones in $\mathbb{C}^n$ on any open Riemann surface $M$. We derive a result of the same type for proper conformal minimal immersions $M\to \mathbb{R}^n$. This includes interpolation in the poles and approximation by embeddings, the latter if $n\ge 5$ in the case of minimal surfaces. As applications, we show that complete minimal ends of finite total curvature in $\mathbb{R}^5$ are generically embedded, and characterize those open Riemann surfaces which are the complex structure of a proper minimal surface in $\mathbb{R}^3$ of weak finite total curvature.

Abstract:We prove a sharp Schwarz type inequality for the Weierstrass- Enneper representation of the minimal surfaces. It states the following. If $F:\mathbf{D}\to \Sigma$ is a conformal harmonic parameterization of a minimal disk $\Sigma$, where $\mathbf{D}$ is the unit disk and $|\Sigma|=\pi R^2$, then $|F_x(z)|(1-|z|^2)\le R$. If for some $z$ the previous inequality is equality, then the surface is an affine disk, and $F$ is linear up to a Möbius transformation of the unit disk.

Quadratic differentials and function theory on Riemann surfaces

Abstract:A finite-area holomorphic quadratic differentials on an arbitrary Riemann surface $X=\mathbb{H}/\Gamma$ is uniquely determined by its horizontal measured foliation. By extending our prior result for $\Gamma$ of the first kind to arbitrary Fuchsian group $\Gamma$, we obtain that a measured foliation $\mathcal{F}$ is realized by the horizontal foliation of a finite-area holomorphic quadratic differential on $X$ if and only if $\mathcal{F}$ has finite Dirichlet integral. We determine the image of this correspondence when the infinite Riemann surface has bounded geometry -- an extension of the realization result of Hubbard and Masur for compact surfaces. A corollary is that a planar surface $X$ with bounded pants decomposition and with (at most) countably many ends is parabolic, i.e., does not support Green's function, in notation $X\in O_G$ where $G$ is Green's function. The class of harmonic functions with finite Dirichlet integral is denoted by $HD$. We give a geometric proof that the class $O_{HD}$ of the Riemann surfaces (that do not support non-constant $HD$-functions) is invariant under quasiconformal maps. Lyons proved that the $O_{HB}$ class (surfaces that do not support non-constant bounded harmonic functions) is not invariant under quasiconformal maps, and it is well-known that the $O_G$ class is invariant. Therefore, the noninvariant class $O_{HB}$ is between two invariant classes: $O_G\subset O_{HB}\subset O_{HD}$.

Abstract:For a wide class of nonlinearities f(u) satisfying f(u) > 0 in (0, a) and f(u) < 0 in (alpha, infinity), but not necessarily Lipschitz continuous, we study the quasi-linear equation -Delta(p)u = f(u) in T, u\(partial derivativeT) = 0, where T = {x = (x(1), x(2),...,x(N)) is an element of R-N : x(1) > 0} with N greater than or equal to 2. By using a new approach based on the weak maximum principle, we show that any positive solution on T must be a function of xi only. Under our assumptions, the strong maximum principle does not hold in general and the solution may develop a flat core; our symmetry result allows an easy and precise determination of the flat core.

Abstract:We formulate a class of functionals in space forms such that its critical points include the r -minimal hyper-surface and the minimal hyper-surface as special cases. We obtain the algebraic, differential and variational characteristics of the critical surfaces determined by the critical points. We prove the Simons’ type nonexistence theorem which indicates that in the unit sphere, there exists no stable critical surfaces, and the Alexandrov’s type existence theorem which indicates that in Euclidean space, the sphere is the only stable critical surfaces.
