Abstract:The essential oil from root of Cynanchum paniculatum(Bge.) Kitag was analyzed by SPME/GC/MS for the first time.The components in the essential oil were quantitatively determined by peak area normalization,The major constituents were paeonol(90.00%),4-hydroxy acetophenone(8.32%).

Abstract:Objective:To identify the compositions of essential oil from Chimonanthus nitens Oliv.Method:The es- sential oil was extracted from Chimonanthus nitens Oliv.through steam distillation method according to1995 edition of Chinese pharmacopoeia.GC/MS was used for the determination of essential oil.Results:41 among the 62 separa- ted constituents were identified,which constituted 97.92% of the total amount,the contents of 11 compounds were over 1%.Eucalyptol was the richest(50.53%),other 10 important components were characterized to be terpenes. Conclusion:The experiment conducted in our laboratory with the essential oil show that it is a simple,rapid,efi- cient,inexpensive and with good repeatability and recovery.It is excellent to separate and determine the component of essential oil from Chimonanthus nitens Oliv.,and offer reference value in the development and application study of the volatile oil.

Abstract:Cynanchum paniculatum (Bge.) Kitag (Asclepiadaceae) is a medicinal plant from China. The essential oil of the leaves and roots was isolated and analyzed by GC/FID and GC/MS. Eight and nine compounds were identified in the oil from leaves and roots, respectively. The predominant component found in both oils was paeonol (78.2% and 86.3%). The most striking difference among the oil samples was the presence of 3,4-dimethoxyphenylacetone in the leaf oil. The leaf oil yield was 0.5% (w/w) and the root oil yield was 1.1% (w/w).

Abstract:OBJECTIVE To analyze the compositions of essential oil from flower of paniculate goldraintree.METHODS To isolate by steam distillation and analyze by GC-MS.Relative content of each component was determined by area normalization.Immersion them 20 hours and heating them to 8 hours until the essential oil did not increase.GS-MS conditions: DB-5MS capillary column(0.2 mm×30 m,0.25 μm),carrier gas was high purity helium,flow rate was 1 mL·min-1.MS conditions: EI ionization 70 eV,ion source temperature was 200 ℃.RESULTS Thirty-five compounds,representing 98.8% of total oil,were indentified and their relative amount was determined.CONCLUSION The oil is rich in 3-methyl-4-oxopentanoic acid(49.71%),n-hexadecanoic acid(16.16%),myristic acid(2.62%),linolenic acid(2.38%),(Z,Z)-9,12-octadecadienoic acid(2.36%),2-pentadecanone(2.32%),hexatriacontane(2.17%),benzeneacetaldehyde(2.05%).
Composition and Antimicrobial Activity of the Essential Oil of Spilanthes paniculata Growing Wild on the Gaoligong Mountains, China

Abstract:The essential oil obtained by hydrodistillation of Spilanthes paniculata obtained from Gaoligong Mountains, China was analyzed by gas chromatography and gas chromatography/mass spectrometry (GC/MS), simultaneously. Main constituents of the oil was found as E-gamma-cadinene (10.64 %), beta-caryophyllene (6.31 %), thymol (5.55 %), beta-pinene (5.42 To), 1,8-cineole (4.28 %), p-cymene (3.56 %) and bicyclogermacrene (3.17 %). The essential oil was also screened for its antimicrobial properties against various pathogens.

Abstract:OBJECTIVE To analyze the constituents of essential oil extracted from the areal parts of Eupatorium odoratum L.,and establish foundation for reasonable utilization.METHODS The essential oils were extracted by CO2 supercritical fluid extraction(SFE-CO2) method,then separated and identified by GC-MS.Relative content of each component was determined by area normalization. RESULTS 69 components were identified from the essential oil,the identified compounds account for 57.57% of total oil;The main constituents were 9-Methyl-10-methylenetricyclo[4.2.1.1(2,5)]decan-9-ol(13.66%),Fumaric acid,ethyl 2-(2-methylenecyclopropyl)propyl ester(5.02%),4-(4-hydroxy-2,2,6-trimethyl-7-oxabicyclo hept-1-yl)-3-uten-2-one(3.24%),4-hydroxy-2-Pentanone,(3.16%).CONCLUSION 68 compounds are identified from the plant for the first time;Some compounds which have higher relative content in the essential oil,which couldn't be searched from the databank of Xcalibur.It seems there are new compounds,should be researched with chromatograph methods and spectrum analysis for the next step.

Abstract:OBJECTIVE:To analyze the constituents of the essential oil extracted from the rhizomes of Ligusticum chuanxiong. cultivated in "GAP base for Chinese medicinal materials of China" (GAP demonstrative base of L. chuanxiong in Dujiangyan City of China), and to provide scientific foundation for the quality control and standard establishment of ones.METHOD:The essential oil was extracted by water-steam distillation and separated by GC capillary column chromatography. The components were determined with normalization method, and identified by GC-MS and co-artificial searches.RESULT:One hundred forty-two chromatographic peaks were isolated, among them sixty-two components were identified, which was composed of 87.36% of the total essential oil. The mass fragmentation rules of phthalides and its derivatives in the essential oil were summarized, which primarily underwent two electron impact fragmentation pathways: side-chain cleavage with losses of alkenes/alkanes and ring-opening with elimination of H2O followed by losses of CO. On the basis of these rules, the plane structure of 4, 5-dihydro-3, 1 '-dihydroxy-3-pentylphthalide as a new compound was determined.CONCLUSION:The main components of the essential oil extracted from the rhizomes of L. chuanxiong cultivated in "GAP Demonstrative Base of L. chuanxiong in Dujiangyan City of China" were phthalides and its derivatives. 4,5-Dihydro-3,1'-dihydroxy-3-pentylphthalide was a new compound.

Abstract:Objective To analyze the chemical constituents of the essential oil from the whole plant of Euphorbia lunulata Bunge . Methods The essential oil was extracted from Euphorbia lunulata Bunge by steam distillation .The constituents were separated and identified by GC‐MS and the relative content of each component was calculated by area normalization method .Results 43 compounds of the essential oil were separated and identified ,representing 75 .86% of the amount .The essential oil obtained shows that aldehydes were found to be the major class (30 .77% ) ,followed by ketones (19.02% ) ,and alcohols (17.08% ) . Conclusion It was the first time to analyze the essential oil from Euphorbia lunulata Bunge ,and the results provide important foundation for understanding the constituents and further exploitation of Euphorbia lunulata Bunge .

Abstract:Bolbostemma paniculatum is a traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) showed various therapeutic effects. Owing to its complex chemical composition, few investigations have acquired a comprehensive cognition for the chemical profiles of this herb and explicated the differences between samples collected from different places. In this study, a strategy based on UPLC tandem LTQ-Orbitrap MSn was established for characterizing chemical components of B. paniculatum. Through a systematic identification strategy, a total of 60 components in B. paniculatum were rapidly separated in 30 min and identified. Then based on peak intensities of all the characterized components, principle component analysis (PCA) and hierarchical cluster analysis (HCA) were employed to classify 18 batches of B. paniculatum into four groups, which were highly consistent with the four climate types of their original places. And five compounds were finally screened out as chemical markers to discriminate the internal quality of B. paniculatum. As the first study to systematically characterize the chemical components of B. paniculatum by UPLC-MSn, the above results could offer essential data for its pharmacological research. And the current strategy could provide useful reference for future investigations on discovery of important chemical constituents in TCM, as well as establishment of quality control and evaluation method.

METHODS: Components were separated by means of solvent extraction and chromatography on silical and sephadexLH-20. The structures were determined by spectral analysis and chemical properties. RESULTS: Three compounds were obtained and elucidated 3β-hydroxyl-lupinane, 3β, 28-dihydroxyl-lupinane and 3β-hydroxyl-28-lupinic acid. Abstract:Acetophenones in Cynanchum species, especially cynandione A and its derivatives, whose utilization and toxicity in herbal drugs and folk medicines has caused great interest in the chemical investigation, have extensive biological activities. In this paper, a facile method based on high-performance liquid chromatography coupled with electrospray ionization tandem mass spectrometry (HPLC-ESI-MSn) was developed for the analysis of cynandione A derivatives in the roots of the Cynanchum wilfordii and C. auriculatum. ESI-MS/MS and ESI-MSn analysis of cynandiones A and B in negative ion mode were firstly performed employing two mass spectrometers each equipped with an ion-trap and a quadrupole time-of-flight (Q-TOF) mass analyzer. The results drawn from both instruments were similar to each other. Characteristic fragmentation pathways were proposed by comparing the spectra of two standards acquired in the experiments. The fragment ions at m/z 283 and 268 were obtained, and then were used as diagnostic ions to screen and identify cynandione A derivatives from the roots of above two species, together with an HPLC-MSn method. Total of 28 cynandione A derivatives comprising 4 reported and 24 novel components were identified or tentatively identified. Furthermore, breakdown curves were constructed to distinguish two types of isomers among these compounds. To our knowledge, this is the first report on characterization of acetophenones by HPLC-ESI-MSn, which allows a rapid and complete analysis of cynandione A derivatives in roots of Cynanchum species.

Abstract:The essential oil of Elephantopus scaber, a famous medicinal herb from Yangjiang County in Southern China was analyzed for the first time using GC-MS. The major constituents were hexadecanoic acid (42.3%), isopropyl dimethyl tetrahydronaphthalenol (14.1%), beta-sesquiphellandrene (8.3%), octadecadienoic acid (5.5%), and phytol (5.2%).

Abstract:OBJECTIVE:To analyze the constituents of the essential oils from Radix Angelicae Pubescentis planted in a GAP base of the Chinese medica materials, and provide the scientific basis for quality control.METHOD:The essential oils were extracted by water-steam distillation and separated by GC capillary column chromatography. The components were calculated with normalization method, and were identified by MS detector.RESULT:229 peaks weredetected, among which 8 compounds have been identified, which made up 78.23% of the total essential oil.CONCLUSION:In the total essential oils of Radix Angelicae Pubescentis, 3-carene (8.89%), m-cymene (4.99%) and beta-phellandrene (8.35%) as the monoterpenes and its derivatives, and eudesma-4 (14), 11-diene (4.36%), alpha-selinene (1.36%), ledol (1.14%), alpha-bisabolol (6.03%), and 1, 8-dimethyl-4-(1-methylethyl)-spiro[4.5]dec-8-en-7-one (4.37%) as the sesquiterpenes and its derivatives, are main components.

Abstract:Murrayae Folium et Cacumen (MFC) is a traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) derived from the leaves and twigs of two aromatic species of Rutaceae: Murraya paniculata (L.) Jack and M exotica L. It has long been used as a folk medicine in South China for the treatment of a variety of disorders, particularly for inflammatory lesions and pains. In the present study, a detailed chemical examination as well as a comparative analysis of the essential oil composition of M paniculata and M. exotica was conducted by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS). A total of 141 volatile components were identified from the essential oil of these two plants. Sesquiterpenes were found to be the predominant constituents, accounting for 92.8% of the oil from M. paniculata and 87.9% of that from M. exotica. A comparative analysis of the essential oil composition of these two plants revealed a high level of similarity in their main constituents, such as the co-occurrence of E-caryophyllene, spathulenol and delta-elemene, which gave the chemical evidence for their equal medicinal application as MFC in TCMs. Moreover, in combination with literature reports, E-caryophyllene was theoretically deduced as one of the pharmacologically effective components of MFC that is responsible for treating inflammatory lesions and for local anaesthesia.

Abstract:OBJECTIVE Essential oil from root of Angelica dahurica cv. Qibaizhi were studied. METHOD Essential oil was extracted by water-steam distillation and analyzed by GC-MS. RESULT Two hundreds and ninety chromatographic peaks were detected, among which 111 compounds have been identified. The contents of them made up 90.61% of the total essential oil. CONCLUSION The main compounds in the essential oil were 3-carene (12.70%), beta-elemene (6.20%), beta-terpinene (3.53%), beta-myrcene (1.97%), gamma-elemene (1.82%), beta-phellandrene (1.65%), and beta-maaliene (1.61%), et al. In addition, suberosin (0.16%), a coumarins compound, was also determined.

Abstract:The essential oils from the stem and root of Herba junci setchuensis were extracted by steam distillation.The yields of the essential oils from the stem and the root reached 0.25% and 0.2%,respectively.The chemical constituents of the oil were analyzed and identified by GC-MS techniques with NIST library,and quantitatively determined with normalization method.For the first time,9 and 8 compounds were identified,and occupy 94.53% and 94.74% of all essential oils from the stem and root of Herba junci setchuensis,respectively.The results showed that the constituents in the volatile oil of stem and root of Herba junci setchuensis were very similar,and the main compounds were long-chain alkane,long-chain fatty acid and unsaturated long-chain fatty alcohol,but the aromatic compounds are rare.The results provide theoretical basis for the exploitation and utilization of Herba junci setchuensis.

Abstract:The aim of the study was to analyze the chemical compositions and chemo types of the essential oil obtained from the fresh leaves of wild species belonging to Sect. Camphor (Trew.) Meissn. in the southeastern of China. Hydro-distillation of essential oils was carried out by the refined oil extraction equipment of Nanchang Institute of Technology (patent application number: 201710158988.8), quality and quantity analysis of the essential oil was carried out by gas chromatography/mass spectrometry (GC/MS). After 3 years of investigation more than 1000 individuals, 7 chemotypes were classified in southeast China, including citral- type, linalool-type, camphor-type, cineol-type, safrole-type, methyleugenol-type and nerolidol-type, the last three were the newly discovered of SCM in the area. Especially the individual plants sample number 108 and 107 obtained a high yield of fresh leaf essential oil of 1.35 % and 1.96 % in linalool-type and safrole-type, respectively. The sample number 108 contained twenty-eight compounds which accounting for 99.87 % of the whole essential oil and the content of ?-linalool (95.18 %) was the main chemical composition. The sample number 107 contained twenty-six compounds which accounting for 99.90 % of the whole essential oil and the content of safrole (97.04 %) was the main chemical composition. The results indicated that highly economic value natural plant essential oil linalool and safrole superior individual of varieties were found in the study, which are available for the next study and further development of natural plant essential oils.
Isolation, Antibacterial, Nematicidal and Anxiolytic Activities of Essential Oil Fromcinnamomum Longepaniculatum(gamble) N. Chao Ex H. W. Li Leaves

Abstract:The utilization of natural product resources is significant for economic growth and health care. Herein, Cinnamomum longepaniculatum essential oil (CLEO) was isolated by microwave-assisted hydrodistillation (MAH). The composition of CLEO was determined by gas chromatography/mass spectrometry (GC/MS), and the antibacterial, nematicidal and anxiolytic activities of CLEO were evaluated. GC/MS results revealed that 33 compounds were identified, accounting for 99.87% of the total identified compounds. The major components of CLEO were monoterpenes, including beta-myrcene (22.55%), eucalyptol (11.59%), alpha-pinene (11.56%), terpinen-4-ol (8.63%). Further research found that CLEO can inhibit the growth of Staphylococcus aureus (MIC 7.13 mg/mL, MBC 14.25 mg/mL), Escherichia coli (MIC 14.25 mg/mL, MBC 57 mg/mL), and Pseudomonas aeruginosa (MIC 14.25 mg/mL, MBC 28.50 mg/mL), the zone of inhibition were 17.49 +/- 0.51 mm, 13.35 +/- 0.27 mm and 15.15 +/- 0.31 mm, respectively. CLEO could increase cell membrane permeability and make beta-galactosidase, protein and other substances leak from the cell. Importantly, CLEO was first used to kill pine wood nematodes (PWN, Bursaphelenchus xylophilus). It was found that CLEO was toxic to B. xylophilus (LC50=30.81 mg/mL), and PWN treated with CLEO rapidly died and extended. Furthermore, CLEO was used in anxiolytic for the first time. CLEO inhalation can effectively relieve anxiety-like behaviors in open-field test (OFT) and elevated plus-maze test (EPT), and restore neurotransmitters (5-HT, NE, GABA) in brain tissue to normal levels. This study provides a strategy for the industrial production of CLEO and discovers its potential role in food transportation and preservation, forest pest control, and relief of emotional disorders such as anxiety and stress, which are beneficial to health care and economic development and provides a basis for broader application of CLEO.

Abstract:Aim To analyse the chemical constituents of the essential oil extracted from the rhizome and root of Notopterygium incisum Ting ex H.T. Chang, providing scientific basis for quality control. Methods The total essential oil was extracted by water-steam distillation and separated by capillary gas chromatography (GC). The components were determined by normalization method, and identified by GC-MS. Results GC-MS exhibited 242 peaks and 83 compounds were identified, accounting for 75.77% of the total essential oil. Conclusion In the total essential oil of the rhizome and root of N. incisum, monoterpenes and sesquiterpenes accounted for 13.63% and 67.93%, respectively, in which (1S)-β-pinene (1.67%), 3-carene (1.05%), limonene (1.22%), and 1S-endo-bornyl acetate (1.68%) as the monoterpenes and its derivatives, and (+)-β-elemene (6.78%), sativene (1.54%), α-caryophyllene (2.64%), germacrene D (1.67%), eudesma-4 (14),11-diene (2.36%), α-selinene (2.42%), δ-cadinene (1.55%), 3,7,11-trimethyl-2,6,10-dodecatrien-1-ol (1.03%), (±)-elemol (5.18%), (-)-spathulenol (1.40%), guaiol (3.81%), dehydroxy-isocalamendiol (1.06%), γ-eudesmol (1.05%), α-eudesmol (7.97%), bulnesol (3.09%), and carotol (2.30%) as the sesquiterpenes and its derivatives were main components. In addition, isopropyl trans-cinnamate was the maximum compound (11.3%) of the total essential oil.
