Abstract:An Extensive Comment on a Chronological History of the Six Dynasties by Li Tao,who was a renowned historian in the Southern Song Dynasty,is a work of historical criticism but has been left in the cold by the later generations.This is due to the fact that the book has too obvious pragmatism and lacks textural research.However,this book is of benefit to the readers' understanding of the traditional Chinese historical criticism,their knowledge of the historical fact of the confrontation between the south and the north during the Six Dynasties and natural and cultural status of the former capital city.In terms of the major points in an Extensive Comment on a Chronological History of the Six Dynasties,three of them are worth mentioning: firstly,the reason why the Six Dynasties were incapable of unifying the country;secondly,the reason why the Southern Dynasty during the Eastern Jin Dynasties were able to confront the sixteen states of the Northern Dynasty and its significances;thirdly,the writer's attempt to provide historical references for the imperial government of the Southern Song Dynasty.
