Abstract:【Objective】To investigate the risk factors of occurring of diabetes in obese subjects. 【Methods】A seven-year follow-up study was conducted in 583 simple obese subjects (BMI ≥ 25 kg/m2) including 316 male and 267 female who were chosen in 2000. Before and after follow-up adiposity, blood pressure, lipid profile, plasma glucose, insulin resistance index (HOMA-IR) and endothelium-dependent dilatation (EDD) were measured. 【Results】 A total of 96 subjects with type 2 diabetes were found which was 18.32% of 524 subjects who were followed up in 2007. Compared with non-diabetes subjects the blood pressure, BMI, waist-hip ratio (WHR), total cholesterol (TC), LDL-c and HOMA-IR were significantly increased (P 0.05 and P 0.01), and EDD and HDL-c were decreased (both P 0.01) in the diabetes subjects. Logistic analysis showed that male, age, smoking, family history of diabetes, BMI, WHR, HDL-C, HOMA-IR and EDD were major risk factors affecting of occurring of diabetes in obese subjects. The cumulative incidence of hypertension, coronary artery disease and dyslipidemia were higher in diabetic subjects than non-diabetic subjects (26.0% vs 15.7%, 20.8% vs 11.9% and 33.3% vs 20.1%, all P 0.05). 【Conclusions】 There were varied risk factors relating with the occurring of type 2 diabetes in obese subjects especially one of which endothelial dysfunction may play an important role and it may be an important factor of that hypertension, coronary artery disease and dyslipidemia were more seen in diabetes subjects than non-diabetes subjects.
