Abstract:In this paper, we introduce a motivic version of Toen's derived Hall algebra. Then we point out that the two kinds of Hall algebras in the sense of Toen and Kontsevich-Soibelman, respectively, are Drinfeld dual pairs, not only in the classical case (by counting over finite fields) but also in the motivic version. Consequently they are canonically isomorphic. All proofs, including that for the most important associative property, are deduced in a self-contained way by analyzing the symmetry properties around the octahedral axiom, a method we used previously.

Abstract:By counting with triangles and the octohedral axiom, we find a direct way to construct the Ringel-Hall algebra associated to a triangulated category with (left) homological-finite condition. Our formula is a refinement of that in Peng-Xiao [5] and provides a modified version of Toën’s formula in [7]. 1. Calculation with triangles Given a finite field k with q elements, let C be a k-additive triangulated category with the translation T = [1]. We always assume in this paper that (1) the KrullSchmidt theorem holds in C, i.e., any object in C can be decomposed into the direct sum of finitely many indecomposable objects, (2) the homomorphism space HomC(X, Y ) for any two objects X and Y in C is a finite dimensional k-space, and (3) the endomorphism ring EndX for any indecomposable object X is finite dimensional local k-algebra. Moreover, we always assume that C is (left) locally homological finite, i.e., ∑ i≥0 dim kHom(X [i], Y ) < ∞ for any X and Y in C. We will use fg to denote the composition of morphisms f : X → Y and g : Y → Z, and |A| the cardinality of a finite set A. The following is an easy result in [4]. Lemma 1.1. Abstract:By using the approach in \cite{XX2006} to Hall algebras arising in homologically finite triangulated categories, we find an `almost' associative multiplication structure for indecomposable objects in a 2-periodic triangulated category. As an application, we give a new proof of the theorem of Peng and Xiao in \cite{PX2000} which provides a way of realizing symmetrizable Kac-Moody algebras and elliptic Lie algebras via 2-periodic triangulated categories.

Abstract:In [L. Peng, J. Xiao, Triangulated categories and Kac–Moody algebras, Invent. Math. 140 (3) (2000) 563–603], the authors proved a theorem for constructing Hall type Lie algebras associated to 2-periodic triangulated categories. In particular, this theorem gives a global realization of symmetrizable Kac–Moody algebras. The purpose of this paper is to provide a refinement (meanwhile, a new proof) of the theorem by applying the approach of derived Hall algebras arising in homologically finite triangulated categories appeared in [B. Toën, Derived Hall algebras, Duke Math. J. 135 (3) (2006) 587–615] and [J. Xiao, F. Xu, Hall algebras associated to triangulated categories, Duke Math. J. 143 (2) (2008) 357–373].

Abstract:Given an odd-periodic algebraic triangulated category, we compare Bridgeland’s Hall algebra in the sense of Bridgeland (2013) and Gorsky (2014), and the derived Hall algebra in the sense of Töen (2006), Xiao and Xu (2008) and Xu and Chen (2013), and show that the former one is the twisted form of the tensor product of the latter one and a suitable group algebra.

Abstract:For a finitary hereditary abelian category $\mathcal{A}$, we define a derived Hall algebra of its root category by counting the triangles and using the octahedral axiom, which is proved to be isomorphic to the Drinfeld double of Hall algebra of $\mathcal{A}$. When applied to finite-dimensional nilpotent representations of the Jordan quiver or coherent sheaves over elliptic curves, these algebras provide categorical realizations of the ring of Laurent symmetric functions and also double affine Hecke algebras.

Abstract:In this paper, we provide a way of attaching to a torsion pair $(T,F)$ on the heart of a stable $\infty$-category $C$ a cohomological (K-theoretical, categorified) Hall algebra and corresponding left and right representations. More precisely, the algebra is associated to the torsion part, while the representation is associated to the torsion-free part. The left and right actions enable us to construct canonical subalgebras of the endomorphism ring of the Borel-Moore homology and K-theory of the moduli stack of torsion-free objects, whose "positive parts" recover the cohomological Hall algebra and the K-theoretical Hall algebra associated to the torsion part $T$, respectively. This provides a new direction that might lead to overcome the long-standing limitation of the theory of cohomological Hall algebras to just produce "positive parts" of whole algebras. We also provide a geometric sufficient criterion ensuring the vanishing of the commutator between two different operators. In the quiver case, we obtain the action of the two-dimensional cohomological Hall algebra of a quiver on the cohomology of Nakajima quiver varieties within our framework. Besides the quiver case, we also apply our framework to two torsion pairs on a smooth projective complex surface, and we investigate the corresponding Hall algebras and their representations associated to them. Finally, we slightly modify our method to construct representations of the cohomological Hall algebra of zero-dimensional sheaves on $S$ on the Borel-Moore homology of the moduli spaces of Pandharipande-Thomas stable pairs on surfaces and on relative Hilbert schemes of points (and we obtain similar results at the level of K-theory and bounded derived category).

Abstract:We modify the axioms of triangulated categories to include both higher triangles and distinguished maps of higher triangles. The distinguished maps are specializations of Neeman's ``good'' maps of $2$-triangles. The axioms both simplify Neeman's axioms in his 1991 paper and generalize them to higher triangles in the way proposed by Balmer et al. We provide a geometric formulation via directed truncated simplices to enable a more concrete approach. The axioms are modelled by homotopy and derived categories. We look at a number of key theorems including the fact that sums of maps of $2$-triangles are distinguished if and only if the maps are distinguished and a strong version of the $3$x$3$ lemma. These illustrate some key proof methods. We also show that maps of faces of distinguished triangles are distinguished. We construct some useful distinguished $5$-triangles.

Cohomological Hall algebras for 3-Calabi-Yau categories

Abstract:The aim of this paper is to construct the cohomological Hall algebras for $3$-Calabi--Yau categories admitting a strong orientation data. This can be regarded as a mathematical definition of the algebra of BPS states, whose existence was first mathematically conjectured by Kontsevich and Soibelman. Along the way, we prove Joyce's conjecture on the functorial behaviour of the Donaldson--Thomas perverse sheaves for the attractor Lagrangian correspondence of $(-1)$-shifted symplectic stacks. This result allows us to construct a parabolic induction map for cohomological Donaldson--Thomas invariants of $G$-local systems on $3$-manifolds for a reductive group $G$, which can be regarded as a $3$-manifold analogue of the Eisenstein series functor in the geometric Langlands program.

Abstract:Let $\mathcal {A}$ be a finitary hereditary abelian category. We define a Hall algebra for the root category of $\mathcal {A}$ by applying the derived Hall numbers of the bounded derived category $D^b(\mathcal {A})$, which is proved to be isomorphic to the Drinfeld double Hall algebra of $\mathcal {A}$. In the appendix, we also define the 1-periodic derived Hall algebra via the derived Hall numbers of $D^b(\mathcal {A})$.

Abstract:We show that homotopy cardinality -- a priori ill-defined for many dg-categories, including all periodic ones -- has a reasonable definition for even-dimensional Calabi--Yau (evenCY) categories and their relative generalizations (under appropriate finiteness conditions). As a first application we solve the problem of defining an intrinsic Hall algebra for degreewise finite pre-triangulated dg-categories in the case of oddCY categories. We compare this definition with Toën's derived Hall algebras (in case they are well-defined) and with other approaches based on extended Hall algebras and central reduction, including a construction of Hall algebras associated with Calabi--Yau triples of triangulated categories. For a category equivalent to the root category of a 1CY abelian category $\mathcal A$, the algebra is shown to be isomorphic to the Drinfeld double of the twisted Ringel--Hall algebra of $\mathcal A$, thus resolving in the Calabi--Yau case the long-standing problem of realizing the latter as a Hall algebra intrinsically defined for such a triangulated category. Our second application is the proof of a conjecture of Ng--Rutherford--Shende--Sivek, which provides an intrinsic formula for the ruling polynomial of a Legendrian knot $L$, and its generalization to Legendrian tangles, in terms of the augmentation category of $L$.

Abstract:Extriangulated categories were introduced by Nakaoka and Palu, which is a simultaneous generalization of exact categories and triangulated categories. Axiom (ET4) for extriangulated categories is an analogue of octahedron axiom (TR4) for triangulated categories. In this paper, we use homotopy cartesian squares in pre-extriangulated categories to investigate axiom (ET4). We provide several equivalent statements of axiom (ET4) and find out conditions under which the axiom is self-dual.

Abstract:For a d-Calabi-Yau triangulated category C with a d-cluster tilting subcategory T, the decomposition of C is determined by the decomposition of T satisfying 'vanishing condition' of negative extension groups, namely, C=circle plus C-i is an element of I(i), where C-i, i is an element of I, are triangulated subcategories, if and only if T=circle plus T-i is an element of I(i), where T-i, i is an element of I, are subcategories with Hom(C)(T-i[t], T-j)=0, for all 0 < t < d-2 and i not equal j. This induces that for any two cluster tilting objects T and T' in a 2-Calabi-Yau triangulated category C, the Gabriel quiver of the endomorphism algebra End(C)T is connected if and only if so is that of End(C)T'. As an application, we prove that the indecomposable 2-Calabi-Yau triangulated categories with cluster tilting objects have no non-trivial t-structures and no non-trivial co-t-structures. This allows us to give a classification of torsion pairs in those triangulated categories, and to determine further the hearts of torsion pairs in the sense of Nakaoka, which are equivalent to the module categories over the endomorphism algebras of the cores of the torsion pairs. We also discuss the relationship between mutations of torsion pairs and mutations of cluster tilting objects.

Abstract:We introduce the notion of homological systems $\Theta$ for triangulated categories. Homological systems generalize, on one hand, the notion of stratifying systems in module categories, and on the other hand, the notion of exceptional sequences in triangulated categories. We prove that, attached to the homological system $\Theta,$ there are two standardly stratified algebras $A$ and $B,$ which are derived equivalent. Furthermore, it is proved that the category $\F(\Theta),$ of the $\Theta$-filtered objects in a triangulated category $\T,$ admits in a very natural way an structure of an exact category, and then there are exact equivalences between the exact category $\F(\Theta)$ and the exact categories of the $\Delta$-good modules associated to the standardly stratified algebras $A$ and $B.$ Some of the obtained results can be seen also under the light of the cotorsion pairs in the sense of Iyama-Nakaoka-Yoshino (see \ref{CotorsionThetaSys1} and \ref{CotorsionThetaSys2}). We recall that cotorsion pairs are studied extensively in relation with cluster tilting categories, $t$-structures and co-$t$-structures.

Abstract:A class of triangulated categories with a finiteness condition is singled out. These triangulated categories have Auslander–Reiten triangles. It is proved that the relations of the Grothendieck group of a triangulated category in this class are generated by all Auslander–Reiten triangles. Moreover, the Auslander–Reiten quivers of certain triangulated categories in this class are described in terms of Dynkin diagrams.
