Abstract:Objective To analyze the risk factors associated with postoperative cognitive dysfunction(POCD) in the patients(≥60 years of age) undergoing noncardiac surgery. Methods A battery of four neuropsychological tests was performed in 82 elderly patients 2-3 days before operation and on the 7th postoperative day by an experienced psychometrician in order to evaluate the changes of cognitive function. Univariate analysis and multivariate logistic regression analysis were used to examine the relations between perioperative risk factors and POCD. Results POCD was present in 12 of the 82 patients at one week after surgery. Logistic regression analysis showed that combined coronary artery disease (CAD),the amounts of atropine and ephedrine administered during operation were the significant risk factors for POCD(β=2.427,5.032 and 0.058,respectively). Conclusion Preoperative CAD,the amount of atropine administration and the degree of hypotension during operation are the risk factors for POCD.
