Abstract:The pseudorapidity distribution of charged particles produced in pp collisions at 400 GeV/c was measured by using LEBC films. The two-particle pseudorapidity correlations at fixed multiplicity were studied. The experimental data were fitted with cluster model. It was found that the average cluster multiplicities as well as the cluster decay widths vary slightly with charged multiplicity.

Abstract:A model for elastic high-energy scattering is presented, using the eikonal picture, or optical model, generalized to the case of two hadrons of finite extension going through each other. Two-dimensional Fourier transforms and a two-dimensional impact parameter b are introduced in the discussion. The relationship with Glauber's theory is analyzed. A comparison with experiment is presented.

Abstract:3roton-antiproton elastic scattering at cm energy 540 GeV has been studied in the t range 0.14 ⩽ −t ⩽ 0.26 GeV2. The data is well fitted by an exponential form exp(bt) with b = 13.3 ± 1.5 GeV−2.

Abstract:In this paper, the differential cross sections of the elastic and inelastic scattering of alpha-particle of energy 1.37 GeV on the 2~+ and 3~- excited states of ~(12)C and Ca isotopes are calculated by the method of the inelastic two-composite-particle system scattering theory at high energy. The results are in agreement with experimental data. The importance of the virtual excitation in calculating the differential cross section of the elastic is discussed.

Abstract:In this paper, the differential cross-sections of the inelastic scattering of alpha of energy 1.37 GeV on 2+, 3- excited states of C-12 are calculated by the method of the collective coordinate and high-energy cluster scattering theory. We think that the 2+ state of C-12 is a quadrupole rotational state, the 3- state of C-12 is an octupole vibrational state. The results are in agreement with experimental data.

The low-energy constants of the Lagrangian are expressed in terms of the Coulomb-modified effective range parameters, which are determined to reproduce the experimental data for the differential cross-sections. The resulting theoretical predictions agree very well with the experimental data. The resulting theory is shown to give us almost identical phase shifts as obtained from the R-matrix approach. The role of the ground state of 13N below the threshold and the next-to-leading order in the EFT power counting are also discussed.

Abstract:A gradual transition to the reflecting scattering mode developing already at the LHC energies is affecting multiparticle production dynamics, in particular, relation of the centrality with the impact parameter values of $pp$--collisions. We discuss the issues in the framework of the geometrical picture for the multiparticle production processes proposed by Chou and Yang. We consider effects of reflective scattering mode presence for the inclusive cross-sections.

Abstract:The predictions of an impact-picture model for proton-antiproton elastic scattering are compared with the new UA4 experimental data in the Coulomb interference region at the center-of-mass energy of $541 GeV$. The predicted differential cross section, the parameter $\rho$ and the forward slope are in very good agreement with the data.

Abstract:The Lanzhou Cooling-Storage-Ring facility is set to conduct experiments involving Uranium-Uranium collisions at the center of mass energies ranging from 2.12 to 2.4 GeV. Our investigation is focused on various bulk observables, which include charged particle multiplicity ($N_{\text{ch}}$), average transverse momentum ($\langle p_{\text{T}}\rangle$), initial eccentricity ($\epsilon_{n}$), and flow harmonics ($v_{n}$), for different orientations of U+U collisions within the range of $0^{\circ} < \theta < 120 ^{\circ}$ at $\sqrt{s_{\mathrm NN}} = 2.12$ GeV ($p_{\mathrm lab}$ = 500 MeV). Among the various collision configurations at this energy, the tip-tip scenario emerged with the highest average charged particle multiplicity, denoted as $\langle N_{\text{ch}} \rangle$. Notably, both the second and third-order eccentricities, $\epsilon_{2,3}$, revealed intricate patterns as they varied with impact parameter across distinct configurations. The tip-tip configuration displayed the most pronounced magnitude of rapidity-odd directed flow ($v_{1}$), whereas the body-body configuration exhibited the least pronounced magnitude. Concerning elliptic flow ($v_{2}$) near mid-rapidity ($\eta < 1.0$), a negative sign is observed for all configurations except for the side-side exhibited a distinctly positive sign. Within the spectrum of configurations, the body-body scenario displayed the highest magnitude of $v_{2}$. For reaction plane correlated triangular flow ($v_{3}$), the body-body configuration emerged with the largest magnitude while the side-side exhibited the smallest magnitude. Our study seeks to establish a fundamental understanding of various U+U collision configurations in preparation for the forthcoming CEE experiment.

Abstract:The recent measurements of the elastic cross section by the TOTEM Collaboration together with the first estimations of the inelastic cross sections by other LHC detectors are used to test the simplest version of the geometrical model of the proton-proton scattering. We show that the description found for lower energy data, with the modest adjustment of the model parameter extrapolation, could be, in principle, used to describe the LHC measurement and to predict the cross sections in very high energy cosmic ray domain. However, the shape of the first elastic dip in the elastic differential scattering cross section suggests that ratio of the real to the imaginary part of the elastic amplitude is falling rather fast and the analysis of the elastic cross section fraction suggests that the geometrical picture of the proton-proton collision should be modified considerably when entering the ultra high-energy domain.

Abstract:A simple expression for the proton matter distribution is proposed which fits well within the geometrical model the elastic pp scattering data from ISR to SppS Collider energies. The proton matter form factor is of the dipole form with an energy-dependent range parameter. The pp elastic differential cross section at Tetravon energies is obtained by extrapolation.

Abstract:We describe data on elastic $pp$ scattering at ISR and LHC energies using the analytical representation of the amplitude as the sum of three exponentials equipped with complex phases. In addition, we take into account the Coulomb and Coulomb-nuclear contributions in the entire transfer region and strong "perturbative" contributions in the large transfer region. Refined values of basic scattering characteristics are obtained. Significant changes in the behavior of the amplitude are detected at the transition from ISR to LHC energies. The results obtained indicate a two-layer structure of the colliding protons. In the transition to 13 TeV, a sharp increase in the size of the inner layer and its activity in the scattering is observed. A possible interpretation of this effect is discussed.

Abstract:$q$ numbers are introduced to replace $c$ numbers for the density function $\ensuremath{\rho}$ in a recent model of high-energy elastic scattering. The result is shown to be equivalent to the Glauber theory suitably generalized. The model leads naturally to the distinction between diffractive and nondiffractive excitation processes. The former has finite cross sections at infinite energy. Selection and intensities rules for diffractive excitation processes are discussed.

Abstract:Comparing new elastic $\mathrm{pp}$ data at 200 and 1500 GeV, it is suggested that at higher energies $\frac{d\ensuremath{\sigma}}{\mathrm{dt}}$ "caves in" at an intermediate $t$ value. Comparison with predictions of a geometrical picture leads to the speculation of the existence of a second minimum and a third maximum in the elastic differential cross section.

Abstract:The properties of the diffractive peak observed in the mass spectra of systems recoiling against observed high-momentum protons emerging from pp collisions at the CERN ISR have been investigated. The cross sections in this peak have been found to have a steep t dependence which flattens out as |t| increases. The high mass side of the peak varies approximately as 1/M2 (where M is the missing mass of the recoiling system) and scales well in terms of the variable M2/s. The position of the maximum has been observed to move to lower values of M2/s as the kinematic boundary of this variable decreases with increasing s. The measured cross sections, integrated up to M2/s=0.05, rise by (15±5)% over the s range 549 to 1464 GeV2.

Abstract:The inelastic scattering of 46.8MeV antiproton by 12C leading to the excitation of one normal parity T=0 levels is studied in the framework of Glauber model. The transition densities obtained from fitting to the electron scattering data and the three annihilation potentials derived from analysis of p—p scattering data are used in the calculation. The inelastic angular distribution for exciting the lowest normal parity T=0 states in 12C at 4.44MeV (Ｊπ＝２＋) by 46.8MeV antiproton are calculated by selecting potential parameter suitably. The results are seen to be in fairly good agreement with the available experimental data. The results are given by comparing the elementary two-body amplitudes.
