Abstract:Music emotional design has been studied for many years, and there has been a growing interest in analyzing and design emotion in music by the evolutionary algorithms. Therefore, it's necessary to organize and categorize representative literature. The study presents an exhaustive survey of studies on one or more aspects of music emotional design by the evolutionary algorithms. In doing so, a classification of the literature based on the goal of what the studies want to achieve is developed. Such a classification not only highlights the significant results and unifies existing work, but also provides a foundation for future research in Music Emotional Design by the evolutionary algorithms.

Abstract:The semantic description of music metadata is a key requirement for the creation of music datasets that can be aligned, integrated, and accessed for information retrieval and knowledge discovery. It is nonetheless an open challenge due to the complexity of musical concepts arising from different genres, styles, and periods -- standing to benefit from a lingua franca to accommodate various stakeholders (musicologists, librarians, data engineers, etc.). To initiate this transition, we introduce the Music Meta ontology, a rich and flexible semantic model to describe music metadata related to artists, compositions, performances, recordings, and links. We follow eXtreme Design methodologies and best practices for data engineering, to reflect the perspectives and the requirements of various stakeholders into the design of the model, while leveraging ontology design patterns and accounting for provenance at different levels (claims, links). After presenting the main features of Music Meta, we provide a first evaluation of the model, alignments to other schema (Music Ontology, DOREMUS, Wikidata), and support for data transformation.

Abstract:In recent years, the development of digital music operations has gained worldwide attention and contributed to the progress of related research. However, no review article provides a systematic literature review of the extant literature related to digital music operation research. In this study, we conducted a scientometric analysis of global research trends and structure in the field of digital music from 2005 to 2022 using CiteSpace software. A scientific knowledge map of this research was generated by analyzing 417 literature records in the Web of Science core database. The results of the study reveal the evolutionary trends in the development of this research field until October 2022. The study found that existing research on digital music has focused on piracy issues, digital music product pricing strategies, and sales models, music recommendation systems, etc.; new trends in digital music research are about new approaches to copyright management, how to promote technological progress and product optimization, and the exploration of profit models. The study provides the reader with a broad understanding of salient research themes, trends, and patterns in global digital music research.

Abstract:One of the significant issues in the music supply chain today is the lack of consistent, complete and authoritative information or metadata regarding the creation of a given musical work. In many cases multiple entities in the music supply chain have each created their own version of the metadata for a musical work, often by manually re-entering the same information or through scraping data from other sites. In such cases, the effort to synchronize or to correct the information becomes manually laborious and error-prone. Furthermore, confidential information regarding the legal ownership of the musical work is often commingled in the same metadata, making the entire database proprietary and thus closed. In this paper we explore an alternative model for creation metadata following the open access paradigm found in other industries, such as in book publishing, library systems and in the automotive parts supply chain. The vision is to create a new music metadata layer for creation metadata that is open, scalable and provides an authoritative source of information that is available to all entities in the music supply chain globally.

Comparative Study of Music Visualization based on CiteSpace at China and the World

Abstract:Music visualization is a visual art form for understanding, analyzing and comparing the internal structure and expressive features of music. It meets the aesthetic demand of the masses in the digital age. This paper reviews the development and research status of the music visualization literature in the past 20 years, comprehensively analyzes the research process and current hotspots of music visualization, and speculates the future development trend. We have used Web of Science (WoS) and China National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI) as data sources, used CiteSpace software to compare and analyze the year, country, subject distribution and hot keywords of music visualization literature at China and the world from 2000 to 2020 by the method of Mapping Knowledge Domain. The results show that the research on music visualization at China and other countries is showing an upward trend, and it presents the characteristics of multi-disciplinary integration. Different application scenarios, research methods and development stages lead to different research hotspots between different countries. The shortcomings of Chinese research in this field lies in that the research content needs to be deepened, the interdisciplinary content needs to be integrated, and applications of music visualization needs to be popularized.

Abstract:Music geography is an interdisciplinary subject between geography,musicology,culture studies,and other disciplines.Compared with the well-established music geography in Western countries,music geography in China is still in the embryonic phase.This study attempted to provide a literature review for the progress of music geography research outside China by having a close look at its origin,development paths,essential debates,frameworks,and approaches,based on an in-depth bibliometric analysis.First,this study found that international research on music geography has extended its scope from the perspective of cultural geography to an interdisciplinary discourse and received great attention from economic geography,political geography,and urban geography.Second,the core themes of international music geography research can be generally classified into five branches:music regions and cultural diffusion,industrial clusters and networks,temporal-spatial phenomena and influences of music performance,music-based identity and cultural politics,and music geography as a special urban soundscape.In terms of theories and approaches,international music geography research can be divided into four main branches:cultural geography,geopolitics,economic geography,and urban geography,which are respectively influenced by the non-representational theory of new cultural geography,popular geopolitics and the relational turn of economic geography,and other important trends.Lastly,this article proposed that there is a great necessity to pay more attention to music research by Chinese geographers as it serves as an ideal case and instrument to inquire into geographical issues such as local identity,authenticity,and sense of place,local-global connections,creative production networks,temporary projects,urban planning,and social well-being.

Abstract:Music accounts for a significant chunk of interest among various online activities. This is reflected by wide array of alternatives offered in music related web/mobile apps, information portals, featuring millions of artists, songs and events attracting user activity at similar scale. Availability of large scale structured and unstructured data has attracted similar level of attention by data science community. This paper attempts to offer current state-of-the-art in music related analysis. Various approaches involving machine learning, information theory, social network analysis, semantic web and linked open data are represented in the form of taxonomy along with data sources and use cases addressed by the research community.

Abstract:Audiovisual resources are expanding rapidly these days. Large amounts of these complicated materials could lead to serious problems in resource description, representation and organization. Supported by the National Social Science Foundation of China, the project entitled Innovative Study on Audiovisual Metadata and its Retrieval has been conducted since 2002. During the preparation phase, the status of audiovisual information resources and their characteristics were analyzed; general users' and managers' needs were examined, and existing metadata methods and projects on audiovisual resources were investigated and explored. Based on those constructive and helpful findings, the Audiovisual Metadata Set was developed. This paper introduces the principles of the Set's design and provides an overview of its content. The work is still in progress and the discussions presented here are preliminary in nature. A great many tasks are foreseen and will need to be undertaken, to establish this Set.

Abstract:Music information retrieval (MIR) is an emerging research area that receives growing attention from both the research community and music industry. It addresses the problem of querying and retrieving certain types of music from large music data set. Classification is a fundamental problem in MIR. Many tasks in MIR can be naturally cast in a classification setting, such as genre classification, mood classification, artist recognition, instrument recognition, etc. Music annotation, a new research area in MIR that has attracted much attention in recent years, is also a classification problem in the general sense. Due to the importance of music classification in MIR research, rapid development of new methods, and lack of review papers on recent progress of the field, we provide a comprehensive review on audio-based classification in this paper and systematically summarize the state-of-the-art techniques for music classification. Specifically, we have stressed the difference in the features and the types of classifiers used for different classification tasks. This survey emphasizes on recent development of the techniques and discusses several open issues for future research.

Abstract:With the current development of science and technology, technology provides a new carrier for music, and the form and quantity of music are constantly expanding. The way people come into contact with music is no longer just radio, but also TV, mobile phones, computers, etc. The number of music and video bundling is increasing, and the amount of music in independent art forms is decreasing. The integration between industries has made the combination of vision and hearing closer, music visualization has become more mature, and the art emerging in this form has also become the mainstream of music art. This paper studies music visualization through the case study method, content analysis method and literature analysis method to analyze the current development status of music visualization from two aspects: streaming media and games. On this basis, this paper studies the development trend and prospects of the future music and music industry, providing reference suggestions for the future development of the music industry.

Abstract:Mood annotation of music is challenging as it concerns not only audio content but also extra-musical information. It is a representative research topic about how to traverse the well-known semantic gap. In this paper, we propose a new music-mood-specific ontology. Novel ontology-based semantic reasoning methods are applied to effectively bridge content-based information with web-based resources. Also, the system can automatically discover closely relevant semantics for music mood and thus a novel weighting method is proposed for mood propagation. Experiments show that the proposed method outperforms purely content-based methods and significantly enhances the mood prediction accuracy. Furthermore, evaluations show the system's accuracy could be promisingly increased with the enrichment of metadata.
