A Preliminary Study on Marine Disasters in the Yangtze River Estuary

Abstract:According to related literature and statistic data,marine disasters in the Yangtze River Estuary are described,based on which some countermeasures are brought forward.The rise of sea level,the increasing occurrence of storm tide,the aggravation of saline intrusion and serious environmental pollution along the river are four major types of marine disasters.It is further pointed out that global warming,which would directly lead to the ascending of sea level,is mainly responsible for the high frequency of these marine disasters in the study area.It should be stressed that disaster prevention and damage mitigation be treated as a giant,systematic social engineering,which needs very close cooperation of multiple governmental sections and far-ranging industries.
