Comparison of antibacterial activities of cefepime and 4 others antibiotics against gram-negative Bacilli isolated

Abstract:Objective To study antibacterial activities of cefepime and 4 others antibiotics against gram- negative Bacilli. Methods Antimicrobial susceptibility testing was done on gram - negative bacilli isolated by Kirby - Bauer method. Antibacterial activities of cefepime was compared with anothers antibiotics. Results Out of 245 isolates, 65.3％ were non - fermentative bacilli (Acinetobacter spp. 48.2％ and Pseudomonas aeruginosa 11. 0％ ). The susceptibility rate of gram - negative Bacilli to cephalosporins was lower, most were 44％-68％ . The susceptibility rate of others gram - negative Bacilli (except Stenotrophomonas maltophilia) to imipenem was the higest (93.9％). Antibacterial activities of cefepime against Enterobacter cloacae was better than ceftazidime and cefoperazone - sulbactam, but against Stenotrophomonas maltophilia was lower (46. 7％). The resistance rate of Klebsiella spp. to cefepime in 2004 was decreased than 2003, anothers gram - negative Bacilli to cefepime were increased, ceftazidime and cefoperazone - sulbactam were constantly. Conclusion Cefepime can be used to therapy severe infections of critical patients in ICU.
