Abstract:We define the Characteristic subvarities using iterated Higgs fields. In the case of Calabi-Yau like PVHS over an irreducible bounded symmetric domain, we prove that the Characteristic subvarities coincide with Characteristic bundles of N.Mok. We also prove in a general setting a generating property at degree 2 proposed by B.Gross.

Abstract:We prove that the skew Calabi-Yau property is preserved under normal extension for locally finite positively graded algebras. We also obtain a homological identity which describes the relationship between the Nakayama automorphisms of skew Calabi-Yau locally finite positively graded algebras and their normal extensions. As a preliminary, we show that the Nakayama automorphisms of skew Calabi-Yau algebras always send a regular normal element to a multiple of itself by a unit.

Abstract:In this paper, we extend the construction of the canonical polarized variation of Hodge structures over tube domain considered by Gross (Math Res Lett 1:1–9, 1994) to bounded symmetric domain and introduce a series of invariants of infinitesimal variation of Hodge structures, which we call characteristic subvarieties. We prove that the characteristic subvariety of the canonical polarized variations of Hodge structures over irreducible bounded symmetric domains are identified with the characteristic bundles defined by Mok (Ann Math 125(1):105–152, 1987). We verified the generating property of Gross for all irreducible bounded symmetric domains, which was predicted in Gross (Math Res Lett 1:1–9, 1994).

Abstract: Let $k$ be an algebraically closed field of odd characteristic $p$ and $X$ a proper smooth scheme over the Witt ring $W(k)$. To an object $(M,Fil^{\cdot},\nabla,\Phi)$ in the Faltings category $\mathcal{MF}^{\nabla}_{[0,n]}(X), n\leq p-2$, one associates an \'{e}tale local system $\V$ over the generic fiber of $X$ and a Higgs bundle $(E,\theta)$ over $X$. Our motivation is to find the analogue of the classical Simpson correspondence for the categories of subobjects of $\V$ and $(E,\theta)$. Our main discovery in this paper is the notion of periodic Higgs subbundles, both in positive characteristic and in mixed characteristic. In char $p$, it relies on the inverse Cartier transform constructed by Ogus and Vologodsky in their work on the char $p$ nonabelian Hodge theory. A lifting of the inverse Cartier transform to mixed characteristic is constructed, which is used for the notion of periodicity in mixed characteristic. We show a one to one correspondence between the set of periodic Higgs subbundles of $(E,\theta)$ and the set of \'{e}tale sub local systems of $\V\otimes_{\Z_{p}}\Z_{p^r}$, where $r$ is a natural number. The notion turns out to be useful in applications. We have proven, among other results, that the reduction $(E,\theta)_0$ of $(E,\theta)$ modulo $p$ is Higgs stable, if and only if, the corresponding representation $\V$ is absolutely irreducible over $k$.

Abstract:In this note, an overview of Calabi-Yau varieties in positive characteristic is presented. Although Calabi-Yau varieties in characteristic zero are unobstructed, there are examples of Calabi-Yau threefolds in positive characteristic which cannot be lifted to characteristic zero, although one-dimensional and two-dimensional Calabi-Yau varieties, i.e., elliptic curves and K3 surfaces, are all liftable to characteristic zero. In this respect, Calabi-Yau threefolds in positive characteristic are interesting in view of deformation theory and they are still very mysterious.

Abstract:Let $X$ be a complex projective variety with only canonical singularities and with trivial canonical bundle. Let $L$ be an ample line bundle on $X$. Assume that the pair $(X,L)$ is the flat limit of a family of smooth polarized Calabi-Yau manifolds. Assume that for each singular point $x \in X$ there exist a Kahler-Einstein Fano manifold $Z$ and a positive integer $q$ dividing $K_Z$ such that $-\frac{1}{q}K_Z$ is very ample and such that the germ $(X,x)$ is locally analytically isomorphic to a neighborhood of the vertex of the blow-down of the zero section of $\frac{1}{q}K_{Z}$. We prove that up to biholomorphism, the unique weak Ricci-flat Kahler metric representing $2\pi c_1(L)$ on $X$ is asymptotic at a polynomial rate near $x$ to the natural Ricci-flat Kahler cone metric on $\frac{1}{q}K_Z$ constructed using the Calabi ansatz. In particular, our result applies if $(X, \mathcal{O}(1))$ is a nodal quintic threefold in $\mathbb{P}^4$. This provides the first known examples of compact Ricci-flat manifolds with non-orbifold isolated conical singularities.

Abstract:We study deformations of Calabi-Yau varieties in characteristic $p$ using techniques from derived algebraic geometry. We prove a mixed characteristic analogue of the Bogomolov-Tian-Todorov theorem (which states that Calabi-Yau varieties in characteristic $0$ are unobstructed), and we show that ordinary Calabi-Yau varieties admit canonical lifts to characteristic $0$, generalising the Serre-Tate theorem on ordinary abelian varieties.

Abstract:We construct a global B-model for any quasi-homogeneous polynomial f that has properties similar to the properties of the physic's B-model on a Calabi-Yau manifold. The main ingredients in our construction are K. Saito's theory of primitive forms and Givental's higher genus reconstruction. More precisely, we consider the moduli space M-mar degrees of the so-called marginal deformations of f . For each point sigma is an element of M-mam degrees mar we introduce the notion of an opposite subspace in the twisted de Rham cohomology of the corresponding singularity f(sigma) and prove that opposite subspaces are in one-to-one correspondence with the splittings of the Hodge structure in the vanishing cohomology of f(sigma). Therefore, according to M. Saito, an opposite subspace gives rise to a semi-simple Frobenius structure on the space of miniversal deformations of f(sigma). Using Givental's higher genus reconstruction we define a total ancestor potential A(sigma) ((h) over bar, q) whose properties can be described quite elegantly in terms of the properties of the corresponding opposite subspace. For example, if the opposite subspace corresponds to the splitting of the Hodge structure given by complex conjugation, then the total ancestor potential is monodromy invariant and it satisfies the BCOV holomorphic anomaly equations. The coefficients of the total ancestor potential could be viewed as quasi-modular forms on M-Mar degrees in a certain generalized sense. As an application of our construction, we consider the case of a Fermat polynomial W that defines a Calabi-Yau hypersurface X-w in a weighted-projective space. We have constructed two opposite subspaces and proved that the corresponding total ancestor potentials can be identified with respectively the total ancestor potential of the orbifold quotient X-W/(G) over tilde (W) and the total ancestor potential of FJRW invariants corresponding to (W, G(W)). Here G(W) is the maximal group of diagonal symmetries of W and (G) over tilde (W) is a quotient of G(W) by the subgroup of those elements that act trivially on X-W. In particular, our result establishes the so-called Landau-Ginzburg/Calabi-Yau correspondence for the pair (W, G(W)).

Abstract:In this paper we mainly study Calabi-Yau varieties that arise as triple covers of products of projective lines branched along simple normal crossing divisors. For some of those families of Calabi-Yau varieties, the period maps factor through arithmetic quotients of complex hyperbolic balls. We give a classification of such examples. One of the families was previously studied by Voisin, Borcea and Rohde. For these ball-type cases, we will show arithmeticity of the monodromy groups. These ball quotients are all commensurable to ball quotients in Deligne-Mostow theory. As a byproduct, we prove some commensurability relations among arithmetic groups in Deligne-Mostow theory.

Abstract:For a one parameter family of Calabi-Yau threefolds, Green, Griffiths and Kerr have expressed the total singularities in terms of the degrees of Hodge bundles and Euler number of the general fiber. In this paper, we show that the total singularities can be expressed by the sum of asymptotic values of BCOV invariants, studied by Fang, Lu and Yoshikawa. On the other hand, by using Yau's Schwarz lemma, we prove Arakelov type inequalities and Euler number bound for Calabi-Yau family over a compact Riemann surface.

Abstract:In this article, we prove that for a finite quiver $Q$ the equivalence class of a potential up to formal change of variables of the complete path algebra $\widehat{\mathbb{C} Q}$, is determined by its Jacobi algebra together with the class in its 0-th Hochschild homology represented by the potential assuming the Jacobi algebra is finite dimensional. This is an noncommutative analogue of the famous theorem of Mather and Yau on isolated hypersurface singularities. We also prove that the right equivalence class of a potential is determined by its sufficiently high jet assuming the Jacobi algebra is finite dimensional. These two theorems can be viewed as a first step towards the singularity theory of noncommutative power series. As an application, we show that if the Jacobi algebra is finite dimensional then the corresponding complete Ginzburg dg-algebra, and the (topological) generalized cluster category thereof, are determined by the isomorphic type of the Jacobi algebra together with the class in its 0-th Hochschild homology represented by the potential.

Abstract:V. V. Batyrev constructed a family of Calabi–Yau hypersurfaces dual to the first Chern class in toric Fano varieties. Using this construction, we introduce a family of Calabi–Yau manifolds whose SU-bordism classes generate the special unitary bordism ring ${\Omega ^{SU}}[\frac{1}{2}] \cong Z[\frac{1}{2}][{y_i}:i \geqslant 2]$. We also describe explicit Calabi–Yau representatives for multiplicative generators of the SU-bordism ring in low dimensions.
Semistable Higgs bundles and representations of algebraic fundamental groups: Positive characteristic case

Abstract: Let $k$ be an algebraic closure of finite fields with odd characteristic $p$ and a smooth projective scheme $\mathbf{X}/W(k)$. Let $\mathbf{X}^0$ be its generic fiber and $X$ the closed fiber. For $\mathbf{X}^0$ a curve Faltings conjectured that semistable Higgs bundles of slope zero over $\mathbf{X}^0_{\mathbb{C}_p}$ correspond to genuine representations of the algebraic fundamental group of $\mathbf{X}^0_{\mathbb{C}_p}$ in his $p$-adic Simpson correspondence. This paper intends to study the conjecture in the characteristic $p$ setting. Among other results, we show that isomorphism classes of rank two semistable Higgs bundles with trivial chern classes over $X$ are associated to isomorphism classes of two dimensional genuine representations of $\mathbf{X}^0$ and the image of the association contains all irreducible crystalline representations. We introduce intermediate notions strongly semistable Higgs bundles and quasi-periodic Higgs bundles between semistable Higgs bundles and representations of algebraic fundamental groups. We show that quasi-periodic Higgs bundles give rise to genuine representations and strongly Higgs semistable are equivalent to quasi-periodic. We conjecture that a Higgs semistable bundle is indeed strongly Higgs semistable.

Abstract:We give divisibility results for the (global) characteristic varieties of hypersurface complements expressed in terms of the local characteristic varieties at points along one of the irreducible components of the hypersurface. As an application, we recast old and obtain new finiteness and divisibility results for the classical (infinite cyclic) Alexander modules of complex hypersurface complements. Moreover, for the special case of hyperplane arrangements, we translate our divisibility results for characteristic varieties in terms of the corresponding resonance varieties.

Abstract:In this article we study a conjecture of Geiss-Leclerc-Schröer, which is an analogue of a classical conjecture of Lusztig in the Weyl group case. It concerns the relation between canonical basis and semi-canonical basis through the characteristic cycles. We formulate an approach to this conjecture and prove it for type A2 quiver. In the general type A case, we reduce the conjecture to show that certain nearby cycles have vanishing Euler characteristic.
On the Chow ring of Cynk-Hulek Calabi-Yau varieties and Schreieder varieties

Abstract:This note is about certain locally complete families of Calabi-Yau varieties constructed by Cynk and Hulek, and certain varieties constructed by Schreieder. We prove that the cycle class map on the Chow ring of powers of these varieties admits a section, and that these varieties admit a multiplicative self-dual Chow-Kuenneth decomposition. As a consequence of both results, we prove that the subring of the Chow ring generated by divisors, Chern classes, and intersections of two cycles of positive codimension injects into cohomology, via the cycle class map. We also prove that the small diagonal of Schreieder surfaces admits a decomposition similar to that of K3 surfaces. As a by-product of our main result, we verify a conjecture of Voisin concerning zero-cycles on the self-product of Cynk-Hulek Calabi-Yau varieties, and in the odd-dimensional case we verify a conjecture of Voevodsky concerning smash-equivalence. Finally, in positive characteristic, we show that the supersingular Cynk-Hulek Calabi-Yau varieties provide examples of Calabi-Yau varieties with "degenerate" motive.

Abstract:We give a simplified and more algebraic proof of the finiteness of the families of Calabi-Yau n-folds with non-vanishing of Yukawa-coupling over a fixed base curve and with fixed degeneration locus. We also give a generalization of this result. Our method is variation of Hodge structure and poly-stability of Higgs bundles.

A Nonabelian Hodge Correspondence for Principal Bundles in Positive Characteristic

Abstract:In this paper, we prove a nonabelian Hodge correspondence for principal bundles on a smooth variety $X$ in positive characteristic, which generalizes the Ogus-Vologodsky correspondence for vector bundles. Then we extend the correspondence to logahoric torsors over a log pair $(X,D)$, where $D$ a reduced normal crossing divisor in $X$. As an intermediate step, we prove a correspondence between principal bundles on root stacks $\mathscr{X}$ and parahoric torsors on $(X,D)$, which generalizes the correspondence on curves given by Balaji--Seshadri to higher dimensional case.

Abstract:We develop the moduli theory of boundary polarized CY pairs, which are slc Calabi-Yau pairs $(X,D)$ such that $D$ is ample. The motivation for studying this moduli problem is to construct a moduli space at the Calabi-Yau wall interpolating between certain K-moduli and KSBA moduli spaces. We prove that the moduli stack of boundary polarized CY pairs is S-complete, $\Theta$-reductive, and satisfies the existence part of the valuative criterion for properness, which are steps towards constructing a proper moduli space. A key obstacle in this theory is that the irreducible components of the moduli stack are not in general of finite type. Despite this issue, in the case of pairs $(X,D)$ where $X$ is a degeneration of $\mathbb{P}^2$, we construct a projective moduli space on which the Hodge line bundle is ample. As a consequence, we complete the proof of a conjecture of Prokhorov and Shokurov in relative dimension two.
