Abstract:We find out some relations between the classical Adams spectral sequences for stunted real projective spectra, the Borel $C_2$-equivariant Adams spectral sequence for the 2-completed sphere, and the genuine $C_2$-equivariant Adams spectral sequence for the 2-completed sphere. This allows us to understand the genuine $C_2$-equivariant Adams spectral sequence from the Borel Adams spectral sequences. We show that the Borel Adams spectral sequence is computable as a classical Adams spectral sequence.

Abstract:In this paper, we describe a novel way of identifying Adams spectral sequence $E_2$-terms in terms of homological algebra of quiver representations. Our method applies much more broadly than the standard techniques based on descent-flatness, bearing on a varied array of ring spectra. In the particular case of $p$-local integral homology, we are able to give a decomposition of the $E_2$-term, describing it completely in terms of the classical Adams spectral sequence. In the appendix, which can be read independently from the main body of the text, we develop functoriality of deformations of $\infty$-categories of the second author and Patchkoria.

Abstract:When $R$ is one of the spectra $\mathit{ku}$, $\mathit{ko}$, $\mathit{tmf}$, $\mathit{MTSpin}^c$, $\mathit{MTSpin}$, or $\mathit{MTString}$, there is a standard approach to computing twisted $R$-homology groups of a space $X$ with the Adams spectral sequence, by using a change-of-rings isomorphism to simplify the $E_2$-page. This approach requires the assumption that the twist comes from a vector bundle, i.e. the twist map $X\to B\mathrm{GL}_1(R)$ factors through $B\mathrm{O}$. We show this assumption is unnecessary by working with Baker-Lazarev's Adams spectral sequence of $R$-modules and computing its $E_2$-page for a large class of twists of these spectra. We then work through two example computations motivated by anomaly cancellation for supergravity theories.

Abstract:We study the Adams-Novikov spectral sequence in $\mathbb{F}_p$-synthetic spectra, computing the synthetic analogs of $\mathrm{BP}$ and its cooperations to identify the synthetic Adams-Novikov $\mathrm{E}_2$-page, computed in a range with a synthetic algebraic Novikov spectral sequence. We then identify deformations associated to the Cartan-Eilenberg and algebraic Novikov spectral sequences in terms of stable comodule categories, categorifying an algebraic Novikov spectral sequence result of Gheorghe-Wang-Xu. We then apply Isaksen-Wang-Xu methods in $\mathbb{F}_p$-synthetic spectra to deduce differentials in the synthetic Adams-Novikov for the sphere, producing almost entirely algebraic computations through the 45-stem.

Abstract:We show that if we factor the long exact sequence in cohomology of a cofiber sequence of spectra into short exact sequences, then the $d_2$-differential in the Adams spectral sequence of any one term is related in a precise way to Yoneda composition with the 2-extension given by the complementary terms in the long exact sequence. We use this to give a complete analysis of the Adams spectral sequence for the connective image-of-$J$ spectrum, finishing a calculation that was begun by D. Davis in 1975.

Abstract:We compute the $\mathbb{C}$-motivic Adams spectral sequence for $\mathit{mmf}/\tau$. Up to reindexing, this spectral sequence is isomorphic to the algebraic Novikov spectral sequence for topological modular forms. We give a full analysis of the inclusion and projection maps which occur in the long exact sequence induced by multiplication by $\tau$ on Adams $E_2$-pages. Our computation is totally algebraic and can be used to obtain the $E_2$-page of the Adams-Novikov spectral sequence for topological modular forms in a way that is independent from previous computations using the elliptic curves Hopf algebroid.

Abstract: In this note, we use Curtis's algorithm and the Lambda algebra to compute the algebraic Atiyah-Hirzebruch spectral sequence of the suspension spectrum of $\mathbb{R}P^\infty$ with the aid of a computer, which gives us its Adams $E_2$-page in the range of $t<72$. We also compute the transfer map on the Adams $E_2$-pages. These data are used in our computations of the stable homotopy groups of $\mathbb{R}P^\infty$ in [6] and of the stable homotopy groups of spheres in [7].

In particular, we follow the ``cofiber of $\tau$ philosophy'' of Gheorghe, Isaksen, Wang, and Xu to show that higher Adams differentials agree with their corresponding higher algebraic Novikov differentials in a certain range.

Abstract:Let p ⩾ 7 be a prime. We prove that survives to E ∞ in the Adams-Novikov spectral sequence. Additionally, using the Thom map , we can see that h 0 h 3 also survives to E ∞ in the classical Adams spectral sequence. As an application of these results, we prove that is divisible by β 1 .

Abstract:We show a few nontrivial extensions in the classical Adams spectral sequence. In particular, we compute that the 2-primary part of $\pi_{51}$ is $\mathbb{Z}/8\oplus\mathbb{Z}/8\oplus\mathbb{Z}/2$. This was the last unsolved 2-extension problem left by the recent works of Isaksen and the authors (\cite{Isa1}, \cite{IX}, \cite{WX1}) through the 61-stem. The proof of this result uses the $RP^\infty$ technique, which was introduced by the authors in \cite{WX1} to prove $\pi_{61}=0$. This paper advertises this method through examples that have simpler proofs than in \cite{WX1}.
A continuous $p$-adic action on the $K(2)$-local algebraic $K$-theory of $p$-adic complex $K$-theory

Abstract:Let $p$ be a prime, let $KU_p$ be $p$-complete complex $K$-theory, and let $\mathbb{Z}_p^\times$ denote the group of units in the $p$-adic integers. The $p$-adic Adams operations induce an action of the profinite group $\mathbb{Z}_p^\times$ on $KU_p$, and hence, on the algebraic $K$-theory spectrum $K(KU_p)$. For $p \geq 5$, we give an elementary construction of the continuous homotopy fixed point spectrum $(L_{K(2)}K(KU_p))^{hG}$, where $K(2)$ is the second Morava $K$-theory and $G$ is any closed subgroup of $\mathbb{Z}_p^\times$. Also, for each $G$, we show that there is an associated strongly convergent homotopy fixed point spectral sequence whose $E_2$-term is given by Jannsen's continuous group cohomology, with $E_2^{s,\ast} = 0$, for all $s > 2$. This work is related to a conjecture of Ausoni and Rognes.

Abstract:We determine the $\tau^n$-torsion in the first 5-lines of the $E_2$ page of the $\mathbb{C}$-motivic Adams spectral sequence using the techniques of Burklund-Xu. In particular, every element in this range is either $\tau^1$-torsion or $\tau$-free. We also show that $\tau^n$-torsion elements can appear only in Adams filtration at least $2n+2$ and give further evidence of a possible $3n$ bound.

Abstract:We show that quadratic and symmetric L-theory of the integers are related by Anderson duality and show that both spectra split integrally into the L-theory of the real numbers and a generalised Eilenberg-Mac Lane spectrum. As a consequence, we obtain a corresponding splitting of the space G/Top. Finally, we prove analogous results for the genuine L-spectra recently devised for the study of Grothendieck--Witt theory.

Abstract:In this paper we establish a formula for computing $d_2(sq^i(x))$ where $x$ is a permanent cycle in the $C_2$-equivariant Adams spectral sequence or the motivic Adams spectral sequence over $Spec(\mathbb{R})$. This requires establishing that the Adams towers have an $H_{\infty}$-structure as well as determining the attaching maps for $C_2$-equivariant projective spaces. The attaching maps of $C_2$-equivariant projective spaces can then be used to determine the coefficients of differentials in both the equivariant and motivic case. At the end some sample computations are given.

Abstract:A standing conjecture in L2-cohomology is that every finite CW-complex X is of L2-determinant class. In this paper, we prove this whenever the fundamental group belongs to a large class of groups containing e.g. all extensions of residually finite groups with amenable quotients, all residually amenable groups and free products of these. If, in addition, X is L2-acyclic, we also prove that the L2-determinant is a homotopy invariant. Even in the known cases, our proof of homotopy invariance is much shorter and easier than the previous ones. Under suitable conditions we give new approximation formulas for L2-Betti numbers. Errata are added, rectifying some unproved statements about "amenable extension": throughout, amenable extensions should be extensions with \emph{normal} subgroups.

Abstract:Let $\mathit{s}\mathcal{L}$ be the $\infty$-category of simplicial restricted Lie algebras over $\mathbf{F} = \overline{\mathbf{F}}_p$, the algebraic closure of a finite field $\mathbf{F}_p$. By the work of A. K. Bousfield et al. on the unstable Adams spectral sequence, the category $\mathit{s}\mathcal{L}$ can be viewed as an algebraic approximation of the $\infty$-category of pointed $p$-complete spaces. We study the functor calculus in the category $\mathit{s}\mathcal{L}$. More specifically, we consider the Taylor tower for the functor $L^r\colon \mathcal{M}\mathrm{od}^{\geq 0}_{\mathbf{F}} \to \mathit{s}\mathcal{L}$ of a free simplicial restricted Lie algebra together with the associated Goodwillie spectral sequence. We show that this spectral sequence evaluated at $\Sigma^l \mathbf{F}$, $l\geq 0$ degenerates on the third page after a suitable re-indexing, which proves an algebraic version of the Whitehead conjecture. In our proof we compute explicitly the differentials of the Goodwillie spectral sequence in terms of the $\Lambda$-algebra of A. K. Bousfield et al. and the Dyer-Lashof-Lie power operations, which naturally act on the homology groups of a spectral Lie algebra. As an essential ingredient of our calculations, we establish a general Leibniz rule in functor calculus associated to the composition of mapping spaces, which conceptualizes certain formulas of W. H. Lin. Also, as a byproduct, we identify previously unknown Adem relations for the Dyer-Lashof-Lie operations in the odd-primary case.

Abstract:We presented an alternative computational method for determining the permitted LS spectral terms arising from l(N) electronic configurations. This method makes the direct calculation of the number of LS terms possible. Using only basic algebra, we derived our theory from LS-coupling scheme and Pauli exclusion principle. As an application, we have performed the most complete set of calculations to date of the number of spectral terms arising from l(N) electronic configurations, and representative results were shown. As another application on deducing LS-coupling rules, for two equivalent electrons, we deduced the famous even rule; for three equivalent electrons, we derived a new simple rule.
The Adams differentials on the classes $h_j^3$

Abstract:In filtration 1 of the Adams spectral sequence, using secondary cohomology operations, Adams computed the differentials on the classes $h_j$, resolving the Hopf invariant one problem. In Adams filtration 2, using equivariant and chromatic homotopy theory, Hill--Hopkins--Ravenel proved that the classes $h_j^2$ support non-trivial differentials for $j \geq 7$, resolving the celebrated Kervaire invariant one problem. The precise differentials on the classes $h_j^2$ for $j \geq 7$ and the fate of $h_6^2$ remains unknown. In this paper, in Adams filtration 3, we prove an infinite family of non-trivial $d_4$-differentials on the classes $h_j^3$ for $j \geq 6$, confirming a conjecture of Mahowald. Our proof uses two different deformations of stable homotopy theory -- $\mathbb{C}$-motivic stable homotopy theory and $\mathbb{F}_2$-synthetic homotopy theory -- both in an essential way. Along the way, we also show that $h_j^2$ survives to the Adams $E_5$-page and that $h_6^2$ survives to the Adams $E_9$-page.

Abstract:In the early 2000's, R. Langlands proposed a strategy called Beyond Endoscopy to attack the principle of functoriality, which is one of the central questions of present day mathematics. A first step was achieved by A. Altug who worked with the group $GL(2,\mathbb{Q})$ in a series of three papers. We generalize the first part of this result to a class of totally real number fields. In particular, we cancel the contribution of the trivial and special representations to the trace formula using an additive Poisson summation on the regular elliptic terms.
