Expression of Livin in Pancreatic Carcinoma and Its Clinical Significance Using Tissue Microarrays

Abstract:Objective To investigate the expression of Livin in pancreatic carcinoma and its clinical significance. Methods Using immunohistochemical staining and tissue microarrays, Livin expression in tumor tissues from 88 cases of pancreatic carcinoma and in non tumorous pancreatic tissues from 11 patients with benign disease was examined. Results Livin expression was positive in 67 of 88 patients(76.1%) with pancreatic carcinoma. In contrast, no expression of Livin in the control pancreatic tissues was detected(P<0.001). The expression of Livin was significantly correlated with clinical stages, lymph node metastasis tumor size and patients’ age(P<0.05). Conclusion The expression rate of Livin is significantly higher in pancreatic carcinoma tissues than that in non tumorous pancreatic tissues, which will suggest that Livin may play an important role in genesis development and metastasis of pancreatic carcinoma.
