Zhang Qian and the Translation,Introduction and Dissemination of Constitutional History Knowledge in Late Qing Dynasty

Abstract:In the early 19th century,Chinese government and people had reached basic common sense on carryingout Constitutional Reform,but there was divergence on the example the nation should emulate. Against this background,Zhang Qian introduced the constitutional knowledge of Japan and Britain by translating two books-The History of Japanese Parliament and The History of the British Parliament. Zhang's efforts provided rich knowledge on the construction and practice of constitutional theory of modern China and ini- tiated the translation climax in late Qing dynasty.
