Abstract:AIM: To investigate the prevalence and related influencing factors of sleep disorder in perimenopausal outpatients. METHODS: A total of 516 perimenopausal outpatients were investigated by self-designed questionnaire, Pittsburgh sleep quality index (PSQI), Zung's self-rating depression and anxiety scales (SDS and SAS), and Kupperman index for surveying the influencing factors on the sleep quality. Data were analyzed by SPSS11.5 software. RESULTS: The mean total score of PSQI was 5.69±4.22, and 22% of perimenopausal outpatients showed poor sleep quality. The sleep quality of 40-44 age group was significantly better than 45-49 and 50-55 age groups (P< 0.05). The difference of sleep quality between urban and rural areas was not statistically significant. Factors influencing the sleep quality were stress, anxiety, depression and severe perimeno- pausal syndrome. The physical exercise was a protection factor of sleep quality. CONCLUSION: High incidence of sleep disorder exists among perimenopausal outpatients. Some efficient interventions should be taken to improve the sleep quality of perimeno- pausal outpatients.
