Abstract:Event-based, Publish/Subscribe, systems are receiving increasingly greater attention as a prevalent approach to decouple various large-scale distributed applications such as Internet wide systems. However, their efficiency is closely tied to the architecture of the underlying notification service, which conveys the event notifications from publishers to subscribers. Peer-to-Peer network topology can offer inherently bounded delivery depth, load sharing and self-organization. In this paper, we present a content-based notification service system over peer-to-peer network topology, and couple it with an efficient filter model and routing algorithms. We also study the performance of our approaches, comparing them with corresponding works. The result shows that our approaches greatly reduce network bandwidth for subscription or filter update propagation, and storage requirement for keeping filter routing information.

Abstract:The technique of Content Delivery Networks(CDNs) has emerged and been developed for bridging the gap between the emerging applications and best effort IP networks.Request routing is a key technology of CDN,and is responsible for routing user requests to an appropriate server,so that the services can be delivered to users effectively and efficiently,realizing the global server load balancing.Request routing has been a hot issue of academic and industrial circles in recent years.However,there are fewer works on analyzing and summarizing the related research about this topic.Thus,this paper was working on it.We systematically surveyed the existing request routing algorithms and mechanisms.Furthermore,in terms of the CDN environment and the varieties of applications,we addressed the challenges faced,and presented the research tendencies and the potential solutions.

Abstract:With a Content Delivery Network(CDN),the operator could transfer the content to the distributed edge servers and this makes it possible that clients can obtain what they want more quickly without updating the expensive core network.This paper focuses on our experiment in building a CDN network under Linux,including two main modules,content routing based on DNS and 7 layer content switching.Also we established a CDN network with both of these two kinds of technology.This architecture could shorten the response times,which is shown by the test results.

Abstract:To conquer the shortages of Kademlia in searching efficiency and the strategy of cache,an improved Kademlia routing algorithm is proposed which can accelerate the hotspots inquiry speed in P2P network and is implemented by using fast look-up table and weights setting method.This technique avoids inefficient inquiry under the high refreshing frequency in cache and congregates hotspot resources for high query hit rate.Simulation tests show that the improved algorithm has lower average route step and inquiry time delay than the original one.

Abstract:In order to fully utilize the stable edge transmission capability of CDN and the scalable last-mile transmission capability of P2P, while at the same time avoiding ISP-unfriendly policies and unlimited usage of P2P delivery, some researches have begun focusing on CDN-P2P-hybrid architecture and ISP-friendly P2P content delivery technology in recent years. In this paper, we first survey CDN-P2P-hybrid architecture technology, including current industry efforts and academic efforts in this field. Second, we make comparisons between CDN and P2P. And then we explore and analyze main issues, including overlay route hybrid issues, and playing buffer hybrid issues. After that we focus on CDN-P2P-hybrid model analysis and design, we compare the tightly-coupled hybrid model with the loosely-coupled hybrid model, and we propose that there are some main common models which need further study. At last, we analyze the prospective research direction and propose our future work.

Abstract:Providing scalable streaming media service over the internet is a demanding task nowadays, CDN(Content Delivery Network) and P2P are the main approaches while both have pros and cons. We propose a novel hybrid architecture - PeerCDN to combine the two approaches seamlessly with their inherited excellent features. PeerCDN is a two-layer streaming architecture. Upper layer is a server layer which is composed of original CDN servers including origin servers and replica servers. Lower layer consists of groups of clients who request the streaming services, each client is considered as a client peer in the group. Each group of client peers is led by the nearby replica server. Client peers contribute their resource through the coordination of the leader peer. The scheme uses a revised Kademlia-like protocol for peer-to-peer topology management and DHT for data retrieval. It constructs a topology-aware overlay network and results reduced jitter. PeerCDN makes best use of original investment and infrastructure. The service capacity is larger than traditional CDN system with the participation of the client peers. Also, the topology-aware overlay network restricts the unnecessary backbone bandwidth consuming during client peer sharing. The experiment result shows that PeerCDN has better features than the CDN and pure p2p approaches.

Abstract:Content delivery networks (CDNs) have been proposed to improve the performance of large-scale content delivery in communication networks, in which content files are dynamically cached in CDN nodes that are close to end-users so as to decrease the transmission latency and traffic redundancy. We investigate a real CDN that is currently utilized by a large social network company in China. We note that there are two important issues that are not well considered in the existing literature. The first is that end-users can usually access multiple CDN nodes with high quality of experience. The second is that the data service price may vary greatly for different regions, which can highly influence the cost of CDNs for large-scale applications. We reconsider the optimal caching and routing problem in CDNs by jointly considering these two practical issues, and propose a joint caching and routing strategy by using the alternating optimization technique. Simulation results show that the proposed algorithm outperforms the current CDN strategy, in which most popular files are cached and end-users are directed to the nearest CDN nodes, by 30% and 12% in terms of latency and data service cost, respectively.

Abstract:Over the last few decades,Internet has drawn people from all over the world,mainly driven by the emergence of the Web(World Wide Web,WWW).With the rapid growth of Web sites and also the scale of Internet,the QoS(Quality of Service)requirements of content transportation of Web sites have been more and more critical.Content Delivery/Distribution Networks(CDN)is proved to be an efficient way to improve the performance of network and accele-rate the network operation and it has become one of the essential kernel technologies of Internet within the last decade.This paper categorized the evolution process of CDN into three stages based on the changes of its architectures.The first generation of Cache-assisted CDN alleviated the load burden on source by deploying surrogates(cache servers)to the edge of networks which is closer to the clients.The second generation built highway to guarantee the bandwidth between surrogates by using fiber links,so called Fiber-assisted CDN.The third generation of Peer-assisted CDN utilized the extra resource of clients through the cutting edge Peer-to-Peer(P2P)technology,to elevate the scalability and reduce the cost.This paper described the research and development of CDN technologies driven by the requirements of Internet.The future trend of CDN was also discussed.

Abstract:Content Delivery Networks (CDN) server loads that fluctuant necessitate CDN to improve its service scalability especially when the peak load exceeds its service capacity. The peer assisted scheme is widely used in improving CDN scalability. However, CDN operators do not want to lose profit by overusing it, which may lead to the CDN resource utilization reduced. Therefore, improving CDN scalability moderately and guarantying CDN resource utilization maximized is necessary. However, when and how to use the peer-assisted scheme to achieve such improvement remains a great challenge. In this paper, we propose a new method called Dynamic Moderate Peer-assisted Method (DMPM), which uses time series analysis to predict and decide when and how many server loads needs to offload. A novel peer-assisted mechanism based on the prediction designed, which can maximize the profit of the CDN operators without influencing scalability. Extensive evaluations based on an actual CDN load traces have shown the effectiveness of DMPM.

Abstract:Content Delivery Network (CDN) is an effective solution to offer reliable and efficient content provisioning across the Internet. In order to ensure the service experience, it is critical to adopt efficient routing and server selection techniques in CDN. However, traditional CDN is unable to possess global knowledge of whole network and therefore lacks the ability to dynamically control routing and server selection in real time. Software Defined Network (SDN) is a novel technology that allows decoupling control plane and data plane to offer flexible and centralized management. Implementing CDN with SDN provides an approach to monitor real-time network status and make intelligent decisions timely. This paper presents a novel intelligent SDN-based CDN architecture and propose a Model Predictive Control (MPC)-based algorithm to determine routing path and server selection jointly. Simulation results demonstrate that the proposed algorithm achieves superior performance in terms of both response time and bandwidth satisfaction.
Towards Network-Failure-Tolerant Web Content Delivery: A Path-Aware Peer-Assisted Approach

Abstract:Popularly used to distribute a variety of multimedia content items in today's Internet, HTTP-based web content delivery still suffers from various content delivery failures, including server failures [1], network failures [2] and routing failures [3]. Hindered by the expensive deployment cost, the conventional CDN can not deploy as many edge servers as possible to successfully deliver content items to all users under these delivery failures. In this paper, we propose a joint CDN and peer-assisted web content delivery framework to address the delivery failure problem. Different from conventional peer-assisted approaches for web content delivery, which mainly focus on alleviating the CDN servers' bandwidth load, we study how to use a browser-based peer-assisted scheme, namely WebRTC, to resolve content delivery failures. To this end, we carry out large-scale measurement studies on how users access and view webpages. Our measurement results demonstrate the challenges (e.g., peers stay on a webpage extremely short) that can not be directly solved by conventional P2P strategies, and some important webpage viewing patterns (e.g., predictability of users' webpage viewing time). Due to these unique characteristics, WebRTC peers open up new possibilities for helping the web content delivery, coming with the problem of how to utilize the dynamic resources efficiently. We formulate the peer selection that is the critical strategy in our framework, as an optimization problem, and design a heuristic algorithm based on the measurement insights to solve it. Our simulation experiments driven by the traces from Tencent QZone, one of the most popular social service platforms in China, demonstrate the effectiveness of our design: compared with non-peer-assisted strategy and random peer selection strategy, our design significantly improves the successful relay ratio of web content items under network failures, e.g., our design improves the content download ratio up to 60% even when users located in a particular region (e.g., city) where none can connect to the regional CDN server.

Abstract:In order to fully utilize CDN network edge nearby transmission capability and P2P scalable end-to-end transmission capability, while overcoming CDN's limited service capacity and P2P's dynamics, we need to combine the CDN and P2P technologies together. In recent years, some researchers have begun to focus on CDN-P2P-hybrid architecture and ISP-friendly P2P content delivery technology. In this paper, we firstly make an analysis on main problems of CDN-P2P-hybrid technology, and we compare some current existing solutions. And then we propose a novel scalable and reliable live streaming service scheme through coordinating CDN and P2P. In this scheme, different overlay hybrid methods, we design a smoother CDN and P2P overlay hybrid approach. After that we design a new peer node buffer structure for consuming media block from both CDN and P2P sources. And then we propose a novel algorithm for identifying and serving super node. The simulation experiment results show that our CDN-P2P-hybrid based live streaming scheme has better performance and reliability than pure P2P. Finally, we make a conclusion and analyze future research directions.

Abstract:CDN (content distributed/delivery network) is a network architecture based on Web. It can deliver Web contents more quickly and more efficiently. By making use of caching, duplication, load balancing and user request redirection, CDN constructs a large-scale content distributed network upon Internet. CDN pushes information resources to network edges to provideend users with the best and most available servers to access various contents. CDN is quite a new system of techniques and developing rapidly. It must solve and improve some key problems. What's more important is that we lack a standard to evaluate the performance of CDN and its relative products. CERNET provides us a favorable platform to measure CDN performance, for we can inspect those CDN techniques from inside the network and from the point of view of ISP, ICP and end users, so as to get useful information for deploying and developing a CDN. A brief view of reasons for CDN's enhancing network performance is firstintroduced in this paper, followed by several metrics, their definitions and significance to evaluate a CDN's performance. Some measurement results are covered to evaluate a CDN's application on CERNET as the central part. In addition, some fundamental comments on CDN and its measurement are given.

Abstract:Although many streaming application providers have relied on CDN services, there are several barriers to making CDN a more common service: expensive construction cost and fixed service mode. The rise of cloud computing requires "CDN as a Service" with a more open service mode, which requires content services available on-demand and be utilized in an open and loosely-coupled fashion. In most of the current streaming systems, CDN provides serve requesters with a passive and static state, there is no dynamic interaction with P2P systems, so the total CDN-P2P-Hybrid efficiency is not high. In this paper, we present CPDID: a CDN-P2P Dynamic Interactive Delivery scheme for Live Streaming. We explore CPDID architecture based on REST interface and JSON message format. And then we propose an identifying and selecting 'upload amplification nodes' algorithm to more efficiently utilize CDN resource. Our experimental results show that CPDID achieves at least 10-25% performance improvement compared with the existing native CDN-P2P-Hybrid schemes. At last, we analyze the prospective research direction and propose our future work.

Abstract:end-users. In this paper, we therefore talk about how to support a strong Web consistency in CDN. We firstly carry out theoretical analyses of Web access distribution, content server relationship and network traffic. Based on these analyses we then propose a novel algorithm in which not only the access distribution of Web contents but also the current network topology are considered. Through simulations, we check the performance of our proposal when the related parameters are changed. Simulation results show that our proposal can efficiently minimize user delay and network traffic.
