Abstract:This experiment was conducted to investigate the effects of gradient dietary supplemental soybean oligosaccharides (SO) on the caecal pH value and short-chain fatty acids in broilers. A total of 192 1 day-old male Arbor Acre broilers were randomly allotted into 4 treatments of 6 cages which contained 8 birds and were fed one of the 4 diets with SO added to an oligosaccharide-low basal diet of corn-soybean protein concentrate at the dosage of 0,0.50%,1.00% and 2.00%,respectively. The results indicated that no significant difference (P >0.05) had been found on the chyme pH value of the duodenum and the jejunum among 18-d-old and 36-d-old broilers fed gradient dietary supplemental SO. With increasing levels of dietary SO,ileal and caecal pH value tended to decreased and addition of 1.00% SO reached the lowest value. Caecal concentration of acetic acid and total SCFA was significantly(P<0.05) increased due to supplementation of SO. The inclusion of 2.00% SO resulted in the highest values for 18-d-old broilers and 1.00% STP for 36-d-old birds. Moreover, supplementation of SO at the levels of 1.00% or 2.00% significantly (P<0.05) increased the molar percentage of butyrate in the caecum of 18-d-old broilers.
