Abstract:South Africa and Australia's response to China's resource diplomacy reflects the complex impact that a rapidly transitioning domestic political economy has on foreign economic and security relations.South Africa and China share similar views in promoting international governance reform, and both are committed to the development of their strategic partnership, which establishes the foundation for cooperation in resources. However, the differences in political systems and competition between manufacturing sectors have negatively affected resource politics for the two sides. In the case of China and Australia, the ever-increasing influence that the mining industry has on Australia's economy and politics has aroused negative reactions from society.Furthermore, the continuation of the Australian-U.S.security alliance increases security and strategic distrust between China and Australia.China faces many challenges in its resource acquisition strategy in Australia.
