Abstract:Cancer stem cells,representing a very small percentage of total tumor mass,possess characteristics associated with normal stem cells,but may be the primary cause of cancer development and metastasis.However,the recognization of immune system to cancer stem cells,the role of cancer stem cells in the induction of tumor immune tolerance still remains to be explored.Furthermore,immunotherapy targeting cancer stem cells has not been well developed yet.This review discusses the relationship between cancer stem cells and tumor immunity,which would lead to a new avenue to tumor research and clinical treatment.
